Be honest, do you favor one company over the other? I personally like both, but favor AMD. I'll explain why. When I think of Nvidia, I think of top-notch and uncompromising performance. I think of Nvidia as the best in terms of overall and raw performance, this is their upside. However, note that I saiduncompromising.Meaning that they won't budge in their efforts to make the fastest card, even if that means poor heat dissipation and ridiculous power consumption. This is their downside. As for AMD, I love them because even though they compromise top-notch performance to assure good heat dissipation, low power consumption, and relatively cheap prices, the compromise is usually so small that it can be overlooked. Also, I like red more than green and would rather have a card that matches the red and black theme of my case. :P

PLEASE VOTE IN THE POLL!

NOTE: I made a similar thread in the PC Hardware section, but I've made it here because I think it's more appropriate for this section.

I'm a nVidia guy. Though I build PCs using AMD because the bang for the buck is there.

I really don't care as long as the specs on the card are good.

You have other options? o.O

I currently have an ATI card and it's pretty epic, however nVidia seems to have better drivers and more game support (damned favourtism!!). It's annoying how my friend has a worse card than me and yet still gets better performance. >.>

Oh, and screw you PhysX!

It's either AMD or NVIDIA. Some time in 2011, my tabletPC/netbook would be AMD APU based.

I don't favor companies, I work on a card by card basis. Right now I've got an NVidia card, if 'roundabouts the time I go shopping for another card I see an AMD one I like more than the nearest NVidia alternative, I'll go with that.

Having worked with both so much, I don't have too big of a preference. Usually I do research a lot at time of upgrade to see what I want. Been going with AMD for a while now, things may change in the future. Though with a 5870 that future is far away. :P

Im all about ATI/AMD, i used to like Nvidia when the 8800's came out but later got my hands on 4870's and was set. My next build which will be soon when i get my taxes back will be top notch ATI/AMD combo.

Nvidia. Better drivers plus PhysX which I turn on for any game I can. Started out with Nvidia and never switched. Kinda afraid of change because of driver issues with AMD BUT I do use AMD for my processors. Intel is too expensive and I don't need the absolute best of the best. My 965 at 3.7GHz is good enough.

Yeah I used this logic to go with Nvidia for like very many years, than at one point when I had the doh to build my first full rig, at the time, ATI was leading, I was an ATI hater for no reason, so I decided to get one for the heck of it, turned out video cards are pretty much all the same. :P

I generally just go after the best proven cards (not theory, nor fanboys words).

I do prefer Nvidia, but not above that I might just aswell put an ati/amd card in my pc instead, if the card has been proven to be better then what Nvidia offers.

So I am not sure what I should be called, half fanboy? if cards perform about the same I will pick the Nvidia card.

AMD was actually better ever since the late 90's 'til now. but seeing that AMD has dropped the ATI company because of financial woes, i dont see how they're getting back. i mean, they still make top-of-the-line cards and all, but im worried about the future.

i remember this NVidia card (was it last year or this year), that they released for around $600 and then AMD released theirs for $400 so NVidia cut the price down to $400 without cutting any features. goes to show how unnecessarily expensive Nvidia cards are, much like Apple products.

on the same note, Nvidia GeForce 3 and 4 were actually pretty good. but then we had the 7000's, even the 8800 GTs which, although nice, aren't really that impressive.

and yes, they overheat badly.

Where did you read they dropped the name because of financial issues? They stated themselves why they were doing it. "The AMD brand is viewed as stronger than ATI when compared to graphics competitors (presumably NVIDIA)."

I've never experienced a crash with a WHQL-certified nVidia driver, not in 7 years.

The latest WHQL version has a built-in uninstaller if you choose to use it to clean out the old.

They just seem to die on me less. I've owned 5 Nvidia graphics cards and 2 of them have fried on me. Granted, they were both 7800 GTXs and EVGA replaced them when they broke. Which is why I only buy from EVGA now, because of there amazing lifetime guarantee. I've only had 2 ATI cards, but they still work great and have never failed me.

Depends on the price/performance. Right now that is AMD.
