no its not strectching the truth at all. from wikipedia (you can lol at wiki, but prove what it says is wrong first) " Although Sony, unlike Sega with its Dreamcast, placed little emphasis on online gaming during its first few years, that changed upon the launch of the online-capable Xbox. Sony released the PlayStation Network Adapter in late 2002 to compete with Microsoft"Sony knew they had to up their game when XBL came around, hence why the network adapter was released after XBOX. if there was no original xbox or xbox 360, the PSN would probably be just a shadow of what it is today. competition causes innovation dude.sts106matI hate to do this because you will come after me even more now. ""The machine is also equipped with one Type III PC card slot. In 2001, Sony will ship a PC Card Ethernet adapter so that the PS2 can connect directly to the Internet via a cable modem, Sonys Kutaragi said. At the same time, the vendor will sell a highcapacity hard drive for the PS2, he added. Though it is unclear what kinds of network services Sony is planning, Kutaragi said that he sees the PS2 as a new distribution system for music and movies. Sony Music Entertainment Japans CEO Shigeo Maruyama told IDG News Service that his company is readying Internet music services for the PS2, but he would not provide details."" http://articles.cnn.com/1999-09-14/tech/9909_14_ps2.idg_1_ken-kutaragi-sony-officials-ps2/3?_s=PM:TECH CNN September 1999............ Where in hell was the xbox on September 1999,hell that date was when the DC came out,now before you go into your usual denial,my link is from 1999 the xbox plans were first announce march 2000,and that was when the console was suppose to move 300 million polygons, when the Raven CG which was basically a lie was shown,in fact the xbox games were seen for the first time on january 2001 at Ces if i am not mistaken, which was also when MS claimed that developers were getting Toy Story graphics out of the xbox something that sony has been blame for without been true. Oh by the way it also confirm between MS and sony who had the HDD idea first,is the reason the PS2 since launch was born with the hole in the back, you can deny it all you want,Wiki is a joke compare to the 1999 link i gave you,Sony announce a network adapter before the xbox was even announce.

And seriously? Microsoft is winning? I thought people here mostly hated them. :?

I guess that makes sense then. Whenever I think of Microsoft in gaming I think of Xbox. :P

The stuff about on-line, IMO, it was SEGA with the DC that originally pushed Sony to do more and MS with XBL the further pushed Sony. See, I was just agreeing that Sony needs pushing from competition so it's all good. :P

Feature wise MS actually did push sony, but saying sony would have not evolve or something like it is a joke, the PS2 was online before xbox live with voice chat,on of the main features on xbox live.
What, no "other" option?
I personally would have chosen Take Two. Bioshock redefined single player shooters with an amazing story and tons to explore.
Rockstar ended up releasing 3 games that helped change and elevate gaming. GTA IV was a masterpiece with the highest scores in gaming this gen, and shaped what we expect and want from DLC.
Red Dead Redemption became the best Western game ever and again had a flurry of high scores and sales, with an emphasis on story that is very much moving gaming forward.
Finally, LA Noire gave us a new type of adventure game and introduced faces that broke the uncanny valley.
Of course since Take Two isn't here, I'll pick Sony. Heavy Rain did a lot for story based gaming and the Uncharted games are some mega hits, plus they do have a HUGE amount of games to their name.
lol Higher standards placed on the xbox..lol tormentos
Protip: when something is followed by "no, seriously" it means it's a joke.
Sony definitely.
Microsoft just rips off ideas and throws money at things until they get a crappy product and then they release it a year ahead of the competition and hope for the best. luckily xbox is dead now, Playstation is the future of gaming. microsoft should stick to making pendrives and stuff..

Who got a insulted? and I dont see how a cow could insult anyone I mean.. I dont know many people who get insulted when a cow goes "moo"
I was just pointing out that since what tormentos said was perfectly clear, you obvious hesitancy to understand exactly what he meant.. could be interpreted as a lower intelligence level. so in retrospect I think those werent the perfect choice of words for my part, as you appear to be insulted, rest assured that this was not my intention.

Of course not, trolling..? big 'no no' for me ! its way below me to be honest :)
So back to topic I suppose?
TBH I think EA doesnt even deserve to be on that list ! sure they had some good games, but their contribution this gen is marginal at best !
I say Sony. They have taken more chances with their exclusive titles and have broken new ground with a bunch of them: 1) Uncharted has set a new bar for action/adventure gaming. 2) Little Big Planet introduced Play/Create/Share and pushed user generated content to a new level which is now in more of their games like Mod Nation Racers and Infamous 2. 3) Infamous opened up the traditional super hero action formula into an open world experience. 4) Motorstorm took the traditional offroad racing formula to a whole new level. 5) MAG is doing battles on a scale not seen outside of WOW. 6) Heavy Rain and Valkyria Chronicles are ground breaking their own right. 7) They have brought MMO's to consoles with DCU Online and FF14 (even though it isnt very good). 8 ) Their online is free and allows them to share online experiences like Portal 2 with Valve. I could keep going. But you get the picture. They have done far more than just the same formulas with better graphics.-ArchAngeL-777-

Glad I could give everyone a good laugh  For those of us who dont want to play the next COD wannabe shooter, these have been significant strides for console gaming. What is everyone else doing on that list that is so special: 1) Activision hasnt done squat except buy Blizzard and COD and then destroy Infinity Ward in the process. 2) EA is consumed with taking down COD so bad they are altering the formulas of all their shooters to be COD clones...that is when they arent putting out the annual sports game milkage and pushing down original concepts like Mirror's Edge. 3) Microsoft already had Live, Halo, Forza, and Fable from last gen, so they dont count as this gen advances. So I guess Kinect and Gears of War are their contributions? Windows Vista maybe? Oh wait...Windows 7 fixed that right? LOL 4) Nintendo gave us the motion control craze which I cant tell is a blessing or a curse at this point. I know 360 has sold out to it which is why I dont own one. Thank God the Move isnt Sony's sole focus. I dont know what else to say. Sony's only bad move was pricing. Everything else they have done is a solid advancement...even the BluRay.[QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]Yeah like the generation of the PS1 where MS wasn't here,oh wait what about the PS2 one, where the PS2 by far had the best games. we'd be all hyped up for this falls release of lair 3, haze 3, genji 4 and a patch that finishes gt5.
tormentos
it seemed to me sony had no intention of trying to put any effort into this gen until they got schooled by ms.
if sony had no competiton i doubt they would ever have tried to pull out of the tailspin.
lol @ the current poll leader.
Cashing for online play, payable DLC and Kinect sure were great contributions

Yep, say that to my 9 year old PS2, its so unreliable ! It still hasnt broken.. However special mention must be given to the Xbox line of consoles as they manage to break every 3 years without fail and cause millions and millions of dollars losses to its users..
So yep :) Nothing more reliable than a Xbox .. No sir nothing at all..
[QUOTE="mems_1224"] waa waaa waaa xbl costs money. who cares? you dont want to use the service dont. RROD, doesn't matter. PS2s last gen were built a lot worse and broke a lot too, no one holds that against sony over priced peripherals? like what? you didnt provide any examples why would they change the price when its already cheaper than ps3??? :| again, who cares? most dlc is a rip off anyways ads? who cares? they aren't even noticeable and take less than a second to skip all your arguments dont matter, you're just grasping for straws. happy now? :|tormentosSee now your at least trying Kudos for that. I care and many do and don't play online because they don't like to pay for it,saying who cares doesn't actually fix the problem, and is not actually a valid point you can use against people complaining about paying for live. The PS2 wasn't even close to the xbox 360,which doesn't had only 1 problem RROD are more than 10 hardware related problems, and the worst problem the PS2 suffer last gen DRE,is also suffer by the original xbox and the crappy thompsom drivers but unlike sony MS wasn't force to fix them on court because the hardware sold so bad,it was't as wide spread as the PS2,5% of 152 million units is allot,by the way the xbox 360 also suffer from DRE and is not cover by the 3 year RROD warranty. 20GB HDD for $99 when on PC they were $40. $99 dollar wifi adapter when on PC there were like $20 or less. $50 dollar controller without motion,or build in rechargeable battery. The HDD practice still continues today. http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/accessories/xbox-360-250gb-internal-hard-drive/83934 $129 for a 250 GB HDD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152291 When for my PC i can buy one for $89 and the HDD is a whooping 1 Terabyte, hell i don't know but if my PS3 hold one that big i can have that for $89. So your argument to most of what i say is who cares..Thanks dude for proving my point. to the people that play a lot of online games with friends live is worth it. psn isn't as user friendly i went through 4 ps2s. 3 because of DRE and one because the disc tray stopped working. ive only got 1 RROD on my xbox a year after i got it in 07 and since then have had no trouble. ps2s were equally crappy, the internet just wasnt as big none of those peripherals are essential, so not that big of a deal. and charging kits for controllers are like $10-15 online. no biggie. at least on xbox the charging cable is more than a footlong so i can play and charge at the same time. also i can just turn off my console and still charge my controller. cant do that on ps3 and cant play and charge at the same time with that short cable.
