[QUOTE="bobbetybob"]

Halo, Starcraft has that weird Warhammer "Everything in the future will be absolutely massive" look to it, all the armour and weapons look huge on the humans, I've never cared for that. In Halo everything has defined edges but still manages to look sleek.

Richymisiak

yeah i've always disliked the warhammer 40k look

Actually the only thing massive are the Space Marines (and its evil counterparts), Orks and...thats it actually. Space Marines are huge due to an explainable reason, they are genetically enhanced humans.

And Space Marines are actually very very few and rare.(with regards to the its hugesetting backdrop...which is an entire galaxy)

War40k sports alot of more realistic and normal sized units, foremost of which, from the human faction are the Imperial Guard Regiments, which actually come in all sorts of uniform and armour and alot more common and numerous in the War40k lore than Space Marines.

But wrt main topic, I certainly pick the ODST ****from Halo. I'm not sure why I don't really like the Spartan look...something more like a scrambler bike rider to me than a future soldier :D. The ODST is just perfect and alot more sleeker imo.

[QUOTE="Led_poison"]I would rather have the terran marines protecting me over the UNSC marinesNanoMan88

I read somewhere that the battlefield life expectancy for a terran marine was just over nine seconds

Medics increased that lifespan by a whole 3 seconds.

StarCraft has better ships and buildings and stuff, but Halo has the better human armor suits (the ODST suits and the regular marines I mean; the Spartans just look like armored BMX riders...).

Since I care more about ships and buildings and stuff in my Sci-Fi (they're pretty much what defines Sci-Fi universes), I'll have to go with StarCraft.

Just between those two? Starcraft...

As far as "Which science fiction franchise has the coolest tech?" goes, Halo is a pretty low on that list. Covenant tech is decent, but Forerunner stuff is boring and the human weapon variants are worse than what we have today. Why is the standard bullpup assault rifle used by the UNSC so damned inaccurate?

[QUOTE="antifanboyftw"]

starcraft people's suits look so incredibly stupid compared to spartan armor. too big and bulky. i think in the halo books, it was mentioned that only the mark I armor was anywhere near that big.

DarkLink77

It's powered armor. It's not just plating or anything like that.

LOL. Here is what MJOLNIR armor is. (Halo's armor)

Created parallel to the SPARTAN-II Program,the MJOLNIR Mark IV Armor was a radical redesign to previous powered exoskeletons, streamlining their design into a practical purpose for use in the field. The brainchild of Dr. Catherine Halsey, the Mark IV represented her vision of creating a powered exoskeleton capable of taking full advantage of the physical capabilities of a SPARTAN-II.The MJOLNIR battlesuit is constructed in overlapping layers. It is a sealed system, capable of extravehicular activity or operations in toxic atmosphere and vacuum. It is hardened against EMPand radiation, and has filters that are completely effective at removing toxins and bacteria from local atmosphere.

The armor's shell is composed of a multilayer alloy of remarkable strength which has been augmented with a refractive coating capable of dispersing a limited amount of Covenant energy weapon strikes.The suit contains a gel-filled layer underneath a thick black armored bodysuit. The gel layer regulates temperature and can reactively change its density in a few seconds.The inner skinsuit is made of a moisture-absorbing synthetic material linked to an environmental control computer and the occupant's UNSC-issue neural interface.An upgradeto the standard neural interfaceis issued to all high ranking officers; another modifiedversion of the neural lace is issued to all SPARTAN-IIs in the UNSC as well. This network translates electrochemical signals to digital code and routes them through an interface connection at the rear of the skull.Through this interface, the user's thoughts commands the armor's movement and weapons and input from the on board sensors comes directly to the user's mind.The synthesis of machine and mind is so fast that it is almost impossible to chart the reaction time. Unfortunately, the system is so reactive that normal human beings cannot use the suit without injuring or even killing themselves. Only humans who have undergone carbide ceramic ossification, a bone-strengthening treatment from the SPARTAN-II augmentation program, have been shown to safely operate the suit.

Sandwiched between the external armor and the internal padding is the most devastating weapon the suit carries: a layer of reactive metal liquid crystal.Woven by molecular tools into a superdense layer, this layer is amorphous, yet it amplifies force, doubling lifting capability and increases reaction time by a factor of five.Such technology did not exist when work began on the Mark I prototypes.

Because of these advancements, the design is more akin to an actual suit of armor, as opposed to a powered exoskeleton; the user moves the suit, and in return the suit moves the user. This allows for an incredibly compact design when compared to other combat systems. The armor contains numerous features including an integrated computer system which continuously monitors weapons, biological functions, and an intelligent motion-sensing radar. The suit also contains a built-in oxygen re-breather system that can provide air for up to ninety-minutes.The suit's helmet also features imaging and video recording, and thermal sensors among other features.

In its final phase the MJOLNIR battle suit weighs half a ton, or 1000 LBs and when in use, is a fully neural-linked system and is currently the most advanced piece of tactical military hardware in human hands.

and they are able to fit all that in a little suit that fits like a glove around the body and isn't the size of a schoolbus. it weighs a lot sure, but thats really just due to what it is made of.

I like asthetics of the Terran technology a lot more than Halo's. Especially the marine suit which is closer to a walking tank than a suit of armor. Also the Odin, (Hero Thor unit) looks amazingly badass.

I'd say artisically halo probably takes the cake for sprawling vistas but sleet and conservative human design, but if it was future tech vs future tech, Starcraft 2 terran would demolish halo humans.

Dude, huge Halo fan here. I know what MJOLNIR armor is. But there's a difference between powered armor (i.e. StarCraft, Warhammer, Starship Troopers) and that.

Halo's armor and weapons are more realistic, who would wear a 5 ton space suit to fight? Plus Halo's weapons are very powerful, assuming the forerunners are similar to the humans. Remember Halo is also a weapon.

Starship Troopers is actually required reading in the U.S. Navy and the USMC. It's kind of crazy. Undeniable influence, though.

Halo's armor and weapons are more realistic, who would wear a 5 ton space suit to fight? Plus Halo's weapons are very powerful, assuming the forerunners are similar to the humans. Remember Halo is also a weapon.

.. Uhh Starship Troopers gave the whole idea of that.. Having a space suit thats extremely powerful, fast, and the ability to carry large loads of ammunition.. Its basically what the military is trying to do TODAY in developing exo skeletons and what not..

Starship Troopers is actually required reading in the U.S. Navy and the USMC. It's kind of crazy. Undeniable influence, though.

Undeniable? Its the grandfather of the modern day sci-fi's.. From Starcraft, Warhammer 40k, to Halo..

Neither, Mass Effect universe for the guns alone which doesn't use conventional ammo, instead using micro slugs as ammo.
