yeah ps2 NOT psp2 I'm talking about the $99 PS2 that's been on the market for 11 years and is the predecessor of the Playstation 3
Does the 3Ds have better graphics than the ps2?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
The 3DS has better graphics then the PS2. The 3DS looks better then most GCN games and the GCN was more powerful then the PS2.
Most(Videos/pics) 3DS games already look better then Wii games(Talking 3rd party titles)...The 3DS has better graphics then the PS2. The 3DS looks better then most GCN games and the GCN was more powerful then the PS2.

i would say 3DS mainly due to screen size. If you took the 3DS images and put them on a big screen... :? who knows which would be better
man nintendo are just...... so they have released 2 pieces of hardware which are just SLIGHT(if even that) upgrades to the GC...campzor
they went from a 67mhz cpu with 4mbs ram to 2 cores a gpu and 64mbs ram witch is a massive upgrade .

even if thats the case , the games on the consoles and 3ds look VERY similar in graphical power.naw really the 3ds has 3d graphics, does ps2 -no , plus it is said to be nearly as powerful as nintendo wii

well i guess im sick of nintendo not making any graphical advances in their technology. If sony can do it there is no excuse for nintendoHere's the Best Comparison I can find.
Resident Evil 4 PS2 vs Resident Evil Revelations 3DS
Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore (PS2) vs Dead or Alive Dimensions (3DS)
Street Fighter EX3 PS2 vs Super Street Fighter IV
Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2) vs Metal Gear Solid 3 (3DS)
Yeah I guess it's a safe bet that the 3DS is more Powerful than the PS2.

You know Sony is a mega corporation that can bleed money for years on one bad choice simply because they have so many other products to fall back on, while Nintendo makes games and video game hardware and .... thats it. Had Nintendo tried what Sony did with the PS3 this gen then they would have been dead or on life support. Anyways the 3ds is a nice graphical advancement for handhelds. Dont see the issue there. I'll give you the Wii, but then again it all went with Nintys plan and payed off big. On topic, the 3ds is easily better than the PS2 (graphics wise). You would have to be blind not to see it.[QUOTE="campzor"]man nintendo are just...... so they have released 2 pieces of hardware which are just SLIGHT(if even that) upgrades to the GC...ThePlotholeNo, in this case they have released hardware which is a MASSIVE upgrade from its predecessor. That predecessor is the DS, not the Gamecube.
Adding to that, this is one of the few times in gaming history where current-gen handhelds are comparable to the graphics of previous-gen consoles. It's a good step up from the not-quite N64-ish graphics of the DS, and a massive leap from the GBA.
I'm pretty sure it's the 3DS. It has higher quality shaders, I believe.
DreamCryotank
3DS's PICA200 supports
1. OpenGL ES 1.1 API.
2. supports vertex shader but no programmable pixel shader.
3. it's fixed function pipeline can be use for some OpenGL ES 2.0 type effects i.e. a modern spin on DX7 type GPU.
Well, the launch titles of the 3DS look on par or even a bit better than later PS2 games. That said it might look somewhat close now, but later installments will make the difference bigger and bigger.
PS2.... Seriously.
Emotion Chip made everything awesome like how the Cell does....
Dibdibdobdobo
Not enough hardwired shader features.
On non-raster renderingFold @ Home, CELL was smashed by AMD's Radeon X1900 twice over.
PS; Geforce 7/RSX is can't sustain full feature DX9c performance i.e. issues with full 32bit FP compute.

As for "advancement for handhelds"; a slightly higher priced AMD APU netbooks can kill 3DS.

AMD APU C-50's Radeon HD 6250 includes 80 SPUs and DX11/OpenGL 4/OpenCL1.1/AMD Stream/IEEE-754 (32bit FP only) support.
Unlike PS2 and 3DS, AMD's CPU has full IEEE 754 support. The PS2 does not support IEEE-754 NaN's and Infinities floating point handling.

You think this doesn't count as an advance in technology because it's comparable to the GCN? It's a HANDHELD. That isn't how this works. If it looked like the DS, there would be no advancement. Not to mention, don't act like Nintendo always kept a low down on technology, the SNES and N64 were the most powerful consoles of their respective generations, and the GCN was second in it's.Here's the Best Comparison I can find.

Well we're comparing a portable with a home console here but if I sum up the whole experience (3D screen included), I will say 3DS.
That's not why they failed.
The N64 failed because it came out 18months after the PS1, which had an installed base of 16million by the time N64 launched in Japan.
The GC failed because it came out 18months after the PS2, which had an installed base of 20million by the time the GC launced in Japan.
As both were at best 50% more powerful then rival consoles (which is NOTHING with gaming consoles, needs to be a significant logarythmic increase), so there was no incentive for companies to bother changing support from one console to another.
3ds by a ton. the 3ds has graphics up to wii level, with the games on the 3ds having better textures and shaders but having less polygon's than the top wii games, or even some gamecube games.

A netbook is light enough that it can be operated while being held on one hand i.e. not a laptop.
HP MiniNote netbook
Also, it's the same hardware for the incoming AMD APU tablet/netbook PCs.
PS; laptop is designed to be operated on a lap. Modern laptops needs cooling divider between person's lap and the laptop PC.
Only because its on a much smaller screen
The_Gaming_Baby
Netbooks usually has reduced heatsink size and weight, no optical drive, smaller battery, smaller keyboard, less USB ports and 'etc'.
AMD "bobcat" APU is designed to battle Intel Atom and high-end ARM Cortex A9 APU solutions.
Also, Sony has thier own AMD APU based netbook i.e. using a faster AMD E-350 APU and it's higher priced.
