I've been playing a lot of Alan Wake lately and I think the combat is really good, thought it would make a good thread, so which game has the best combat?
I'm stuck between Arkham City and Dark Souls, I'm inclined towards Dark Souls TBH.

Mario. Gotta stick with the classics. Plus it's simple and easy. Jump, fireball, twirl. Can't beat it.

lol Alan Wake, I remember that game. It was supposed to push the 360 to new heights and be the final nail on the PS3s coffinNengo_FlowWell I'm playing the PC version, it's awesome.

*changes title*It is hard to say, there are different types of combat in games.
But the Batman one's are definately the most refined combat mechanics I have ever played. So I'm going to go with that. In terms of FPS it is Killzone 3, the combat in that is brutal and so refined.

Then why say GOW3? Opinion or not, thats wrong.
I never said GoW3, I said GoW in general. But yes, it is my belief that God of War strikes the best balance between combat depth and accessibility, variation and familiarity.[QUOTE="Nengo_Flow"]lol Alan Wake, I remember that game. Really?
God of War's combat is pretty shallow as far as hack and slash games go and tho I love the Pokemon games and think they are some of the best RPGS out there, I think most RPGs with a decent battle system has a better battle system than Pokemon. I mean, it only has four moves. Compare that to something like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI, which give you a myriad of options, and it comes across as unreasonably limited. The saving grace is that Pokemon lets you have so many potential party members.

Yes. As for God of War: it looks flashy and awesome and feels shallow, but there is a lot of depth there, especially on the higher difficulties, where the game gets brutal. As for Pokemon: Four moves. Seventeen types. Each Pokemon can have upto two types. Each move can have a type of its own. A move of the same type as the Pokemon gets an attack bonus. Then there are the six persistent stats: Attack, Special Attack, Defense, Special Defense, HP, and Speed, alongside battle specific stats like Accuracy and Evasiveness. Pokemon has incredible depth. It has the best battle system for any turn based game out there. it mixes up turn based combat with some serious strategy.[QUOTE="OneSanitarium"]

Inclined to agree since it was one of the answers I was thinking...
But it doesn't mean Arkham games have bad combat. I think the freeflow system is actually cool and captures the awesomeness of Batman... you see, in order to be a good system, I don't think it's gotta have complex button inputs or being able to perfoms crazy ass combos like those in DMC3.
Still, good choice mate.

I just think the gameplay feels automatic or cheap. It feels like Batman just starts flying around randomly with huge windows to do counter. I understand that its main audience are general Batman fans, and as such they should be focusing on them rather than just pandering to gameplay fanatics.

We're derailing a thread made by the master of derailing threads. I'd say to not derail this thread would in fact tantamount to derailing it, whereas derailing it is not really derailing it, even though it is in fact derailing it. Simple enough, I'd say.[QUOTE="Gxgear"][QUOTE="charizard1605"]

You feel it's automatic and cheap because you're used to complex sh!t man, but it doesn't mean everybody needs the hardcore stuff as much as you do. Kinda like Some_Mist is obsessed with the bullte hells, not everybody is into that...
Anyway, it must to be a sad gen when no other game comes close to the complexity you want in your combats (probably just Bayo)

Ninja Gaiden 3 (only the demo i played)
Red Fraction Armageddon was pretty good ... knocking down buildings is always fun ... its gun based really but every now N then its fun to sledgehammer away
Bulletstorm is o k ... over the top nonsense N very arcade like N gun base kicking gameplay into enviroments
Nier is ok also ... its hit or miss on a lot of people though ... there is no its o k its mostly you likey or you hatey
