My first RPG was RuneQuest. I can hardly remember, but I think it was somewhere around year 1990 or something, when I was introduced to that great RPG. It is still my favorite. After that I tried little AD&D, but I didn't like it that much. I've always hated class and level systems. I like free character development more. And I think that is because I played RuneQuest first. I really couldn't understand why the rules in AD&D were so restricting.
I know that you meant what videogame RPG was my first, but I can't remember. First one that impressed me was Fallout. But still pen & pencil RPG > videogame RPG.
My first RPG, as many have said, was Super Mario RPG. It's the only RPG I ever finished. Another RPG was Diablo 2 but I never had the chance to get familiar with it because my cousin took me off his computer.LoL Anyway I don't really care for RPGs anymore, because they're boring or it could be that I haven't played one in a while and have slowly lost interest in this genre..
I had never heard the term RPG at the time but Dragon Warrior "not Quest in the US at the time" was my first. My mom bought and love it. I only got to play it when she was not. I still have the Nintendo Power with the maps.
I never had a playstation when growing up and when I had a SNES I only had a few games because I was a youngin but when I got a PS2 I played Kingdom Hearts as my first RPG. Ever since then, I have loved my RPGs
It was either Final Fantasy 6 or Secret of Mana. I played them both on the first day I was introduced to rpgs but I don't remember which one I played first.
If were talking wrpgs then one of the Ultima games followed by Baldurs Gate.
FF6 which is pretty much the pinnacle of Jrpgs, after that it all went downhill, western RPGs however have seemed consitently good to me, the first Wrpg I played was Diablo 2.
