Who else thinks SMG2 was the only game that deserved its 10 this gen?

I have Gta4 and MGS4, I liked MGS4 better then GTA4 by a long shot, altho MGS4 had about 8 hrs of unneeded cut scenes/load screens/ U name it. I Have almost 60 stars in SMG2 and can say out of the 3 it is the only one that deserves its score. Like the reviewer said everything feels fresh all the time, I have yet to get bored or feel that done that before feeling. I am not a big wii fan, I usually like my ps3/pc alot more.I give credit where credit is due and NIntendo are the best developers in the business today. The best thing about this game is the freshness, I cant say it enough, no matter how good a game is it always seems to get stale after a while, which is my biggest complaint of games. Any game can be great for a few hours but doing the same thing, against the same enemys with different skins or a new background dosent work for me anymore. Hats off to nintendo. I am suprised at the wii, I wrote it off many times but it always seems to get me back, this is my 3rd wii.

mgs4 deserved it more than the others imo

I'm sure I'm gonna be heavily disagreed with, but I think GTA4 deserved a 10. I haven't played the others, but if MGS4's writing is in any way similar to it's predecessors, then it doesn't deserve it.

Super Mario Galaxy, and uncharted 2 among thieves deserved it much more.

Not that I've played it, but I have trouble believing that SMG2 is really that much of an improvement over the original. There's only so much you can do with the Mario formula.*

Anyway, the game I'd say is most deserving of a 10 this gen actually scored a 9: Company of Heroes. One of the best and most innovative RTSs of all time (in fact I'd argue it is the best RTS of all time), and literally the worse thing you can say about it is the load times are slightly too long.

*I'm gonne be eating these words when I do eventually pick up SMG2, aren't I?

I'd give GTAIV a 9.5, but after reaching World S, I agree that SMG2 deserves a 10. It blows away Galaxy 1, and it currently holds the title of my favorite game of the generation. MGS4, I never played, and I don't care for the series, so I have no opinion on it.

GTA didn't deserve it, but MGS4 did. To the people who complain the story is confusing I say:

1. Go to PSN;

2. Go to Add-ons;

3. Click on "Disc-based" and "M-Z";

4. Scroll down till you see Snake's handsome face;

5. Download what you find in there;

7. Profit;

I enjoyed every second of the cut scenes, and I was easily able to follow the story.But Im a huge MGS fan.Like some people have said before MGS4 may only be a 10 for the fans. And Im ok with that 8)

Nope. GTA IV deserved its score, especially with the addition of the DLC (even factoring in the increased cost). They kept what worked from the previous GTA games, and cut what didn't.lowe0

MGS4 was a masterpiece. If counting the cut scenes as a movie they would be ranked as my second favorite movie of the year (after Dark Knight). The gameplay finally felt right for the series. There are also so many epic game moments (like Rex vs Ray)MGO was a thrown in added bonus, and I have cloaked more hours in it than any other online shooter.

I am not even a fan of MGS (well wasn't before 4) as I only played MGS3, which I thought was a good but flawed game.

GTA4 wasn't technically proficient. For that reason alone I don't think it deserves the 10. I'd argue GTA3 deserved a 10 moreso than 4 because it didn't slow down to a crawl. Don't get me wrong, GTA4 was an amazing game. I just don't see how a game with so many technical flaws can be considered flawless. MGS 4 I can't speak for since I'm not really a fan of MGS. I played 1 and 2- didn't do it for me. SMG I definitely agree deserves its 10. It's perfect from the Graphics to the Gameplay to the Design to the Music. A true masterpiece.MarthRingman

GTA IV is a quality game.... but some design flaws make it less than a 10 for me... I'd probably give it a 9.0.

I havent played SMG2 yet (it should arrive today), but if it's only on par with SMG than it's already a 10 in my books.

MGSIV.... bah... I'd give it a 6.5, just to be generous. It's difficult for me to judge, since I wish the entire series just didn't exist. What a contrived piece of garbage. It's like Kojima never grew up, and he made the games all 13 year old boys would want.... with names like Big Boss & Solid Snake.... WOAH such thought provoking character names... why not just throw in Cobra Commander & Baroness as characters... their personalities and character names would fit it perfectly with all the other ridiculousness.

I agree with CoH deserving a 10, that game screams quality throughout. I hope they're working on a sequel.

TC, I don't understand how you can think SMG2 feels "fresh". The leap from Super Mario Sunshine to Galaxy completely turned the game on its head (so to speak), introducing new gameplay mechanics and changed the very way the platformer genre is looked at and played. It was a complete overhaul, as RE4 was from its predecessors. While SMG2 does bring new suits with new abilities forth, the game in its entirety, when looked at in comparison to the original, wouldn't fit my description of fresh. There's a lot of recycled material. It feels more like a massive DLC to me.

I'm not saying it's a bad game at all, hell it's a 9.5 (the original should've received the 10 IMO), but I just can't bring myself to call it fresh to any extent.

In single player you're able to pause the action and give orders to your units. I luckily found this out early in the game and it was a life saver as I suck at multi-tasking and RTS games in general. Obviously it can't be done in multi, but helps immensely in SP.

I am 100% behind SMG 2 gettin a 10. It has been amazing the entire time and each level incorporates some type of new gameplay. I do not thing GTAIV should have gotten a 10. It was a great game, but I honestly think that San Andreas is better. As for MGS4, I never played it so I can't judge.

Yeah, I just got the game and is having a blast from the start unlike MGS4 and GTA4 which took a little while to become amazing and still aren't 10 worthy to me.

My only issue with the game is that it's very intimidating. Not in a cheap way, but it's the kind of game that you need to be in for the long haul if you ever want to develop some skill for it. I got chewed up and spit out when I was into the MP.mo0ksi

Not that I've spent much time with multiplayer (since I do end up chewed up and spit out), but I thought the training+campaign give you a solid foundation, and comp-stomping in skirmish can give you a decent sense of the game's pace. Definitely not something you can just jump into, but unlike most RTSs it does a quality job of preparing you for multiplayer.

Nothing is absolutely perfect, and 10 doesn't mean it's absolutely perfect. A 10 to me is just a game of very good quality.
