Who else thinks SMG2 was the only game that deserved its 10 this gen?

Haven't played SMG2 yet, but I think MGS4 deserved a 10, based on the .5 system Gamespot uses. Good story, good replay value, loads of cool weapons that are customizable, good gameplay for a stealth/action game, and was great looking when it came out.

If SMG2 is a lot like SMG1, then I'll have to say no to that game. I couldn't get myself to play too much of Super Mario Galaxy 1, so a sequel that's similar to it probably won't do it for me.

Errr....it's a platformer, getting from A to B is the whole point. The fun's to be had in the journey, not the destination.

Nah none of the games that received 10s this gen deserved it imo, however there are some games that received 9.0s and 9.5s that I think deserved 10s.

I did give it a chance. I honestly believed I was going to be playing some perfect game, and that I'd love it. And it was just boring. I bought the game so I'll try it again obviously, but so far its just not that great. Its way too easy as well.

GTAIV had a lot more variety and the missions had a lot to do in between getting from point a to b.

I'm not a fan of 3D Mario games so I don't agree with the 10. I also do not agree with the 10 awarded to Grand Theft Auto IV. Metal Gear Solid 4 on the other hand I felt was most deserving solely based on its single player campaign. The experience was unforgettable and truly epic in all sense of the word.

I've played through a bit of SMG2, so technically can't comment on the whole product, but as of now ... I don't see the 10. I mean this game is great; a lot of fun, awesome platforming, awesome level design (for the most part), but it doesn't feel like a 10 product to me. Its not even close to some of the most fun I've had this gen.

Right now in terms of the 10's on GS, MGS4 > SMG2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GTA4. But there still plenty of SMG2 left, so maybe my opinion of it will change.

Also as a side note, I think its unfair for other developers (Non-Mario developers) that they have to worry about story, where these guys can give you something written by a deranged dolphin and don't have to worry about it. Not that I'm asking for Mario with some sort of engaging story, I just think its unfair :P.

How the hell does a GTA game have more variety than Super Mario Galaxy 2? SMG2 literally has ideas that are used in a single level and never used again.

To me all three of our AAAA games this gen have been well-deserved. Grand Theft Auto IV set the standard for sandbox games just as III did before it, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 is just ridiculously fun. As astounding as those two are, Metal Gear Solid 4, to me will always be the best of them. After 10 years and playing each game in the series (except the Acid games) the huge payoff that Metal Gear Solid 4 delivered was awesome.

I halfway agree with you. I believe that GTA IV should have been a 9.0 or 9.5. However, I believe that MGS IV deserved the 10 that it got.

BTW, I'm playing SMG 2 now, and it definitely deserved the 10 (at least so far).

I don't. I think SMG1 deserved a 10 becouse it had lots of new ideas. Uncharted 2 also deserves a 10 becouse it was as good as it could get (good online, awesome singleplayer, teh graphixxx, co-op and very nice cast of characters). These two are the only that deserved a 10. SMG2 worth a 9/10 and nothing more.silversix_

MGS4 is not a ten. 8.0 at the most. The gameplay and controls are broken, the story is silly, the characters are poorly voiced, and the script is amateur at best.

The main story should be the good part of the game though. I don't want the main part of my games to be made for little kids and then have to settle for side missions.
