Out of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, who has the most milked franchises? Notice how you can name other platforms of their franchises if a franchise is on more than one of a Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Fanboys can insert their arguments....now.

nintendo easily.... that has to be at least over 20 marios/zeldas/pokemons out there..campzor
Which were released over the course of 25 years. Then again, why does anyone care? Nothing wrong with milking as long as the stuff coming out has consistent quality and good quality. Quantity+Quality>Quality>Quantity

never said they were bad.. but still milkedPretty sure there is a Mario game in every genre ever created.
Fizzman
but alot of them are good and unique, the main series though is consistently amongst the greatest games of that generation(galaxy 1 and 2).
i would say call of duty, every year has pretty much been a map pack, and then theres 60+ dollars worth of DLC each year as well.
Nintendo. I'm not saying their games are bad, but there are a lot of Marios(so many Marios!) and Pokemans out there.
The seemingly natural response would be to say nintendo since they still reuse franchises from over 20 years ago, however, even this late in the game Nintendo has produced 2 original high quality exclusive games for fans on the wii to play OTHER than those main franchises...thus the most guilty culprit falls to MS.
it's quite simple logic. A franchise is only truly milked when the a company doesn't provide the option of any other high quality game on that system.
Nintendo has shown that they are willing to spread out more than MS and provide other high quality options other than their main brands. MS on the other hand, fully fulfills the role of milking their franchises to their utmost ability.
In short MS.
ubisoft (seriously another ******ing assassin's creed)lawlessxOH MAN WE SO GONNA TALK THIS OVER ON STEAM YO BRING IT.
What's "milking" exactly. Do we slap the term for any game franchise that has many entries regardless of long history, excellent quality or innovative improvements, or specific game franchises that fails to change itself and do the same thing over and over and over again?IAmNot_fun
no, at least I don't.
My definition:
"A franchise is only truly milked when the a company doesn't provide the option of any other high quality games on that system."
this basically forces all consumer to wait and buy that one big game because the producers of the console didn't put any effort into making any other games...doin this over and over again year after year is what I consider milkage.
Activision.
And no not because of COD, but because they released over 15 Guitar Hero games in a 2 years Period.
If that's not milking, i don't know what it is.
Of the list: Nintendo without a doubt.

the problem with naming an independent company is that they can't hold any individual system ransom for not buying their game (there are many other good multiplatfom games to play from other companies if they wish). Is cod milked? sure but it doesn't affect any individual owner of any specific system in the least.
I've never bought a single COD game and was fine because there are other good multiplat games games available to play n I don't even like FPS games that much...no worry, there are different mutiplats, in different genres, from different companies if I like.
The situation is entirely different when it comes to parent companies producing high quality gaming experiences exclusive to that console. If that parent company only produces 1 good game in a year (besides the multiplats) there are no other options to have a good gaming experience on that console besides that game.
[QUOTE="arkephonic"]i thought it was called xbox please milk meThey don't call it the Milkbox 360 for no reason.
campzor
Yeah, it might be. The 360 makes sense though, considering the console runs at a minimum of 360 degrees.
I have yet to see a Mario Football or Mario Rugby.Pretty sure there is a Mario game in every genre ever created.

Here's the problem. When they DO get a new IP, it mostly gets overlooked while Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon still hog all the fame.Accidentially voted for MS, meant to go Nintendo.
They need new IPs BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

Didn't pikmin sell over a million? Let's face it, it's not a matter of being ignored, nintendo only deems a franchise sucessful if it can pull 3 million +

the wii has had quite a few new IPs. but they're mostly casual-oriented, so people prefer to ignore them. and rebirth of old dead series (sin & punishment, kid icarus, to name the two most obvious ones) apparently doesn't count either. Here's the problem. Would they even bother with a Pikmin 2 if they thought a million was bad for their standard? They had games that sold under 300,000 units and don't bother with them after that. If that was true, could you blame them? When you have several franchises that sell that high, you're going to have expectations as high as that. And yes, it still IS a matter of being ignored for most IP's.Microsoft. Nintendo releases a lot of different games and only a few Mario games per gen, well a few in the main series, a few as a spin off. Microsoft relies on a few titles over and over again to keep the fanbase happy.
sailor232
Microsoft has published more new IP's this gen than Cheaptendo.

How can you expect a new IP to sell like zelda and mario.. that's beyond ridiculous and if that's the case they are worse than Activision or EA.

Oh yeah, because Sony and MS didn't sell 3 million plus with their new IPs? :roll:Besides, I didn't really say it was their standard because I already said that 1 million was enough for Nintendo to actually make a sequel to Pikmin. It was in "if" situation.

Well the only new IP that sold that much from sony was uncharted. I don't think Resistance, heavy rain, KZ or infamous sold 3 mil + and the only one from MS was gears of war.

Okay, but still, you can't honestly blame Nintendo IF they had expectations like that, considering the fact that new IP's did sell at about 3 million. Most of their new IP's sold at 300,000 or lower. But however, that isn't the case.a lot of people. hell, i'm not even sure if nintendo really were the ones that started the trend.Nintendo. Who else would get away with releasing two of the same game at one time (Pokemon)?
Vari3ty
EDIT: oh and if you think you're supposed to get both versions, get a life, find some friends, and stay away from here.
why wouldn't nintendo milk pokemon
the pokemon series combined has outsold
call of duty + halo + gears of war combined
it's the biggest franchise ever
When it comes to milking, Nintendo by far, but you can't say that the games suck. Nintendo milks their franchises right. The vast majority of games are all somewhat unique and have tight controls and great gameplay. A few series have been destroyed, like Star Fox (shamefully) and Mario Party (also shamefully), but Mario and Zelda have just been one great game after another.
