Who is more popular gamingwise all over the world? Nintendo or Playstation?

I guess Nintendo is massively popular amongst gamers of all ages all over the world , Nintendo got variety of quality games to choose from (Including BC). Sony i guess caters to US mostly and amongst youngsters who are preferring cinematic action games and for jrpg's in Japan.Family , Youngsters, Childrens, people who want to relax after a hard days work play with variety of Nintendo games including sports or adventure games.Nowadays many multiplatform action games are also releasing on Switch.

I could be wrong.

Who is more popular all over the world? Nintendo or Sony?

I'm not sure where you're getting Sony caters to US only. It's pretty popular world wide. Xbox is the one that is relatively popular in US and UK. Outside of that, it's no contest.

I mean Sony action games. They sell really well on US and very popular too ( Spiderman for example ).

Can't we just look up the answer? I'm pretty sure PS is the most popular brand in most markets, with Nintendo and XBox taking a couple of "wins" here or there.

That being said, I don't think anyone thinks about videogames without Nintendo at least coming to mind.

Well exception to Vita, Sony consistently sold their gaming consoles 90-100M+ since PS1 first introduced and seems PS5 will be no exception.

As game publisher Nintendo is still unmatched but as worldwide console leader its always the Sony PlayStation.

nintendo. majority of the gamers are casual. but if im given an option to choose only one, il choose ps any day. heck i would even choose xbox over nintendo. this is from someone who owns ps5/switch and not xbox.

The better question is who is more popular between Nintendo and PlayStation. SONY does more than just PlayStation. Nintendo only does video games. Sony does games, movies, music, electronics & banking.

To answer the question truthfully Nintendo is the New York Yankees\LA Lakers of gaming mainly because of their handhelds, IPs & demographics. Nintendo solely does games, while PlayStation has also been multimedia. PlayStation has never released a device that JUST plays games. Even the original PlayStation was a CD player.

Maybe my thread title was wrong, i didn't emphasise gaming as its a gaming forum after all and i meant gaming only in my OP. I meant to say regarding gaming who is more popular ? movies, music,electronics dont count in this thread.

In terms of console sales and territories, it would be hands down Sony. Even though it is not an international corporation that owns various industries like Sony, Nintendo surprisingly was able to sell may consoles and corner the broader gaming demographics. That is something that Sony with its larger size is unable to wrestle from Nintendo.

PlayStation has outsold Nintendo 3 out of 4 generations so far and the PS5 is currently selling at a faster pace than the Switch did at the same point in its life.

Sony is popular and bigger than Nintendo. Nintendo only produces games and consoles, whereas Sony is everywhere in the electronics and entertainment industry.

As a brand, OP must have forgotten what Sony is all about and how much it has impacted our lives.

It is. Everytime I think of Microsoft, the first thing that pops up is Windows XP or Microsoft Office. Xbox feels like a separate entity.

In terms of pop culture, as in "instantly recognizable thing to layman"? Think probably still opt for Nintendo in that regard.

Nintendo has more popular games and recognizable IP. Pokemon, Mario, Animal Crossing, etc., are household names. However, Sony/PlayStation is the bigger brand overall.

Mario is just too iconic. Sony does not have anything like that to associate itself with that is known by most people.

Yeah I think if you replace Sony with Playstation, then it would challenge Nintendo for most popular.

My grandma knows Nintendo, and even the name of that plumber guy they're obsessed with. As for Sony, she knows they make TVs, and that's about it.

It's the other way around for me here. I live in a 3rd world country, and old people like my parents, grandparents or uncles don't know about Nintendo. They know the Famicom, but they don't know the corporation behind it. But they'd surely know Sony cos of the appliances, but not in gaming.

I would imagine Sony is the clear answer if you're just talking about the company.
