Poll Who is most awesome lady protagonist system wise (POLL)? (126 votes)
I voted for Cate Archer since i started gaming on PC and with No One Lives For Ever, nostalgia reasons lol.

Samus Aran. **** Other M. That game's portrayal of her is completely inconsistent with the rest of the series. She's a silent, cold, calculating badass who will massacre an entire species without batting an eye and imprison the last one for scientists to poke and prod.
As much as I love Samus and Joanna Dark, to me it's LARA CROFT all the fucking way!
And sure it's unquestionable that Samus was the first Lady of Gaming. But it's more arguable that Lara is far more prolific, who had done so much more to advance the position of female gaming protagonists. Plus she's greatly recognized outside the gaming media (even with 2 movies to her name).
Also; troubling that Ada Wong and Aya Brae is absent from that list :(
I came here to say Cate Archer thinking she wouldn't be in the poll. Was pleasantly surprised to find her first in the list of options. So, thank you TC. God, how I loved NoLF games.
Too bad there aren't any good spy shooters anymore. Only dude bro shooter #34224

Why are people listing and naming all these random newblock video game females most people have never heard of?
Everyone knows Lara Croft. Everyone knows shes a badass, or was before she went all goody two shoes in the reboot.
Lara didn't go "goody two shoes" in the reboot. She practically massacred an island population of feral savages. I think you're talking about how she started out helpess and vulnerable, which was just the starting point of a new origin story. But as the central theme of an origin, it chronicles how the experience made her grow into the strong capable woman we know Lara to be.
And I certainly hope you're not advocating the myth that being badass (or courageous in more general terms) is being devoid of fear.
Lara Croft. How many Tomb Raider games are there now> Over 10 I believe. Samus was probably the most played female character though.
From the primary titles, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be the 10th installment. This doesn't include the portable ports, nor the two spin-off titles; Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris.

I did quite enjoy the reboot, even tho it was basically an open world Uncharted game, and a bit too easy.
I just hope shes older in the next game, and looks more like the Lara from back then. No, she doesn't need a tiny waist, big boobs and lips. She just doesn't need to be a 17 year old swim suit model either. In the first Tomb Raider she was like 30 years old.

I'm very much liking the look of the new Lara. Sh'e not just more realistic than any of the previous models, but how natural and organic she appears as a real flesh and blood human being, and not overly "perfect" as a synthetic construct.
But as for the age, well I think it was a good idea to go back to her roots, so that entails amking her younger. But really they did a remarkable job of creating a Lara as a younger version of the one we previously knew, as she retains the right amount of familiarity. I say stick with the younger (and more real looking) Lara for the span of this continuity.

New Lara feels quite realistic, vulnerable compared to older superwoman lara's ... imo. Someone we could relate to :)
I have to say it's a tie for me Tifa (FF7) and Samus (Metroid/SM), for the sake of the poll though I'll go with Samus.
Uh... can I go genre specific instead?
ofc
Alrighty then...
Chun Li (fighting)
Ivy (fighting) - Not really a protagonist per se, but...
Kitana (fighting) - She comes close, considering she's one of the main heroes of MK
Joanna Dark (FPS)
Lilith (FPS/RPG)
Samus (action/adventure, sci-fi)
Jade (action/adventure, sci-fi)
Lara Croft (action/adventure, platformer)
Alex Roivas (horror)
Rayne (action/adventure, horror) - Getting her first game soon on a side note, but from what I've watched of her from the gameplay footage, I like her quite a bit.

Great list.
Who's Lilith (FPS/RPG) ? I mean from which game? :)

Borderlands character. She was fleshed out more in Borderlands 2 (as an NPC, but I like her all the same, still prefer her over Maya).
Jodie Holmes is the best. She's like a better version of Ellie.
???
never mind him... he's probably one of those kids that can't separate video games from reality

Forgot all about Lilith lol.
Metal Gear Solid 3's The Boss.
Though she appeared to be a villain, she was actually on Snake's side throughout the entire game; her defection was a ruse.
Ehhhhh I really don't like any characters from any game... None of them are memorable in the sense that I would be able to pick out my favorite of all of them. I don't know. I can only say that I'm playing DA Inquisition and Sera would probably fit here.
I chose Bayonetta, there's lots of great leading lady's in gaming but so few deserve the title of "awesome" like Bayonetta has earned.
