Who is the most Overrated Developer?

Lionhead. Molyneux hasn't been great since when he had Bullfrog backing him up.lowe0

How is Lionhead studios overrated? Besides Black & White, none of their games are perceived as one of the best games ever made.

Making one amazing game doesn't make you overrated. And they haven't made any other somewhat decent games besides Fable.

Mine is a game developer that everybody loves to death for some reason with incredible scores on all of their games (and maybe used to be great) but in reality just isn't that great anymore.

Developers like Rockstar and Blizzard fit that bill wonderfully.

Overrated means : To Over estimate the merits of something or to rate too highly

To be honest I don't really think of any studio as overrated...

I may not like a game but I won't deny the amount of enjoyment other people are having from x game and call that overrated!

So Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy don't score high? Nintendo is a perfect example. Super mario galaxy is like one of the highest rated games ever.It and its sequel both hold 97 on metacritic

So... the old Crash Bandicoot games were overrated? Jak & Daxter too? Not really.

The only overated game they made was Uncharted 2. That game does not deserve a 96/100 Metacrtic score.

But that one game alone shouldn't make Naughty Dog an overrated dev.

It is an impressive list indeed, i love valve but i just wanted to jump in and make a point which I think I made :P I was never a big fan of rockstar anyhows. After gta3, I didn't enjoy much of their games. L.A Noire was only just ok in my opinion. i Loved gta4 though.

You and me both. It will be a good game but my thinking is that it will be a crap RPG and a very repetitive game. A lot of space with not a lot of variation. It won't meet the hype

I think Team Ninja is kind of overrated. The Ninja Gaiden games were pretty sweet, but they had some obvious flaws and just completely lacked any depth, characterization or subtlety. Its not so big an issue when they just try and put the focus on action, but it means any attempts at stories just fail. Other M was a storytelling disaster that ruined the name of Samus by turning her into a whiny brat, and what worked in NG we learned only works in NG or other games like NG, not in Metroid.

To be fair TW2 was really good at launch and didn't have many problems. They released patches because of consumer complaints like the lack of a tutorial and stuff. But I can see where you are coming from

Bethesda and Rockstar... Mostly because their games just aren't my type.

Valve definitely comes to mind. As a company, they didn't initially develop Counter-Strike or Team Fortress or Left 4 Dead, merely acquiring the developers and/or rights to those games. Portal was made by interns. Half-Life 1 and 2 were amazing, but they're both old news now. And Team Fortress 2? Well.. I liked the original release, before they made their "improvements" and completely changed the game.... I hate it now. I also much preferred the original concept for Team Fortress 2 and wish they had released that instead.

To top it all off, the only two things I like about Steam are the sales, and the fact that I never have to reinstall my games. Just copy my Steam folder if necessary, or install Steam over the existing folder, and done. But it gets a free pass from gamers these days. I remember having to install and run Steam just to play the retail games I purchased, and that was back in '04. Now people who run Steam all the time complain about having to do the same thing for Origin. Valve set the precedence, we as gamers let it happen, so companies are going to take advantage of that. And it irks me when people say that a game doesn't have DRM, just Steam. It *is* a form of DRM, and not a very light one at that.

Overall, I think it's TF2 that bugs me the most, because people will point to that game and say "look at all the free stuff they gave us for THAT game!" Well, quite frankly I think they ruined TF2 and I wish they wouldn't've updated the game at all. It was fine exactly how it was at release.

Anyway, I'm still a Valve fan, but I think some people go way overboard in their worship and undying support for the company.

How is R* overrated? They make different kinds of games and excel in all of them.LOXO7

Like an openworld game set in a city where you can drive around and shoot people? Or the open world game set in the wild west where you can ride around on horses and shoot people? or the open worlded game set in the Noire era where you drive around and shoot people? They may seem different in their premise and art direction but at the end of the day the core of each of their games are the same. Granted I know Team Bondi made LA Noirse but its practically a more upper class GTA. R* are vastly overrated. Look at the scores for GTA IV. Its a great game but doesn't deserve its perfect scores at all. It has lots of problems
