Ifr it works like they say. Cool. We all know that Blu-Ray isn't going anywhere and is an undeniable advantage for gaming (not talking this gen).
hard copies = Win for meTheOldOlder
i'll still down with Bluray I was half jokin but if they pull this off I'll be impressed
There's something about instant streaming 1080p movies that really bothers me. Like, it's too good to be true.siLVURcross
that's what I thought when I heard it
I seriously doubt it's going to be the same quality as BD copies lol.
Chutebox
that's what they are claiming though right?
[QUOTE="chikenfriedrice"]Instant streaming 1080p movies from a 480i source with poor video and audio quality? No thanks. Exactly.. and the fact that some people have monthly cap limits on downloads, plus less than 50% of people have high speed = fail. Hard copies win.Instant streaming 1080P movies? exsqueeze me? thats a winner right there

No. All they claimed was 1080p, which is just a resolution. It's pretty clear it's going to be poor quality 1080p with low bitrates.something has to be compressed and quality will be lower
and regardless ur going to end up going over ur bandwith limit after watching 3 movies
If it works the way they say it will that is impressive, but Blu-ray will still be better and will not be replaced anytime soon. Also I wonder what the audio will be like on these movies. I doubt you will get HD lossless audio from it like you do on blu-ray.

lol the irony here is epic. MOVIES..get it....blue-ray? Well anyways it's still needed, games are only getting bigger and the digital download won't be taking over anytime soon, just look at a game like ff13 it'll probably be in 3 to 4 disk on 360 wjile only one on ps3, well as long as square makes it a long game lolInstant streaming 1080P movies? exsqueeze me? thats a winner right there

There is no way they can stream a 1080p movie without compression that stacks up against hard copies of BD that are usually 25-50GB.that's what they are claiming though right?

Who needs Bluray:
People that like physical copies
People that don't have any internet connection
People that don't have a ridiculously fast internet connection
People that like taking films on the go with them
People that like watching special features
I could go on. Theres no doubt this is a good service, but in no way is it a replacement for Bluray. Also, I imagine an extremely fast internet connection will be required for this.

Instant streaming 1080p movies from a 480i source with poor video and audio quality? No thanks.Yeah because as history has shown the source tech, won't improve. This is the major competition for blu ray in the future and the reason MS didn't include HD DvD in the 360. People complained about changing discs for MGS 4 on 360, but in the future a disc won't even be needed, period. Human beings historicallly have gone out of there way to make life plusher and less work. It seems inevitable that DD will be the norm. And I like hard copies also, but ask yourself, do you have a hard copy of every song on your ipod, zune, mp3?1080p stream =/= blu-ray
Blu-Ray has superior quality video and sound. The online streams don't use lossless audio codecs, do your stuck with Dobly Digital :|??
As a home theater freak I will not use this but instead continue to buy Blu-rays.
This maybe also good for most consumers that can't afford a Blu-ray player and/or movie
agreed but they just need to lower the damn priceWho needs Bluray:

look at old 1080 p TV's and new one's they're on another level now.
Think of it this way. Blu-ray = Watching Transformers in an iMax movie theater. 1080p stream = Watching Bootleg Transformers taken by some guy with a video cameraBluray001Nothing personal, but from your screen name and the way you are shooting this down, do you have a stake in Blu ray? Sony? I agree with the current tech Blu ray is a better experience now. But as technology evolves, as it constantly does, you really think people won't opt for theasier less work of no discs? I like hard copies mostly because I dig the cases and art work. But with humanity's history of laziness DD seems like the inevitable norm.
Instant streaming 1080P movies? exsqueeze me? thats a winner right there
Sorry but its false. The only way to get true 1080p output is through a Blu-Ray Player with a Blu-Ray disc and a HDMI or Component cable no longer than 6 meters. And that will never change? Tech doesn't evolve? Please. Blu Ray has seen it's future competition in DD.[QUOTE="Bluray001"]Think of it this way. It's actually very difficult. It includes configuring IP addresses, opening ports, etc.... vs popping a disc into a player and pressing play. Then there's the buffering issue and internet speed variables.

Come on, it's the obvious future of home entertainment. The tech requirements will be improved as all tech improves. Blu ray as DVD as the CD will dwindle in usage in the future. It will have it's users loving it as Vinyl still does. But for mainstream, it's where we're heading.

I feel the same way. I won't get the PSP Go since I love me hard copeez.

As I said before, if you need hard copies, do you have a hard copy of all the music on your ipod, zune, mp3?I have said it since HD DVD and Blu-ray were introduced. Movies on disk will be obsolete in 3-4 years.
