Why all the hate for PC Gamers?

Why all the hate for lemmings? Why do people want PC gaming to die? I don't understand...

I'm 26 and I grew up during the golden age of PC gaming in the 90's and early 2000's. I know there is a preference for most of us to play on a console because its more relaxing, social and we can play on a bigger tv while sitting on the couch. With this generation's advance in online gaming, a true rival to PC online gaming now exists.

PC gaming is where it all started. Open operating systems, cheaper production and liscencing costs and variable control schemes have created the types of games we can't get enough of today. The games are cheaper, the systems are customizable and you can modify the games that you purchased and own.

The platform thrives on competition but also allows niche markets to co-exist. FPS's were once a niche market of PC games. Adventrue games, flight sims, real time strategy and role playing games were once all bigger than shooters. FPS's grew up and matured on PC's. Online gaming was a regular pracitice on PC's a full decade before PSN and Xbox live really got going. Where do you think consoles got the idea from?

The PC market is innovative, it moves quickly and more people have access to it than ever before.

Why do lots of console gamers want PC gaming to die out? Why limit our choices?

Even though IMO PC had nothing on PS3. MLB '09 The Show, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, Demon Soul's, R&C, inFAMOUS, plus all the games PS360 share that aren't on PC dominates the PC line-up this year.

Reason the PC won?

Well people don't like hearing the PC brought up in the "Console War" Because it is not a part of it, it goes PS3 vs 360 vs WII...the consoles and PC vs The Consoles (in general) same with PSP vs DS, you don't say 360 vs DS or WII vs PSP etc. It's just a separate category.

Actually PC is the way to go if you have the money, Most features, Most potential, Least restricted by hardware. So yes, PC is the best system. But that doesn't mean best one for you. Consoles are convenient ways for people to play games without dishing out a lot of cash. Plus they are dedicated to gaming rather than PCs are built for everything. I don't have a gaming PC, but I plan to pick one up when I finish school and start making some money.

All the anti PC comments wouldn't irritate me so much if they were actually valid, something you could have a debate about. The majority of your time is spent disproving the same assumptions and lies consolites come up with over and over again. It seriously gives you a negative impression of the intelligence of the average consolite, many of them seem to be incapable of producing an argument and just regurgitate what they have heard from other ignorant people.

There are genuine criticisms of PC gaming, even though it would not be in the interests of hermits to have these issues highlighted; it would be refreshing to see some valid points once in a while. Not these stereotypical arguments that can be completely squashed in one post, only needing further explanation when the consolite is in denial and refuses to recognise the evidence right in their face.

pc is still part of gaming though just as is DS and PSP and wii. debates arent about consoles, thats only for fanboys, debates about gaming are for all of gaming. the pc whether people want to believe it or not is a direct competator for consoles, maybe not hardware but software wise. a sale for the pc version of RE5 is one less 360 sale. it also matters for exclusives. neither the 360,ps3,wii,ds, or psp can claim exclusive if its on the pc.

the pc experience is simply different. the only reason theyre even compared this gen is because consoles slowly are losing their identity and trying to be the pc and failing.

its not hate so much as misinformation and/or ignorance. for example, when people say "pc gaming is dead" i can see where they get that impression unless they are an active part of the pc gaming community. gaming websites tend to focus more on console games, and many of the best things about pc gaming (mods, dev tools, and indie games) are not touched on by most gaming related hack journalists.

pc gamers can also come across as abrasive because some of them are basement-dwelling freaks who dont understand the basics of social interaction, but the same is true of all systems.

There is the main category Gaming. which divides into some sub categories (sub genres) Portable and Stationary (Non Portable whatever you want to call it) and the portables have the Consoles - PSP and DS, and the portable PC's - Laptops. and your Stationaries split into categories...Consoles - PS3, WII, 360...then Destops - PC, MAC.

Isn't the more important question: why should PC gamers be exempt from the hate that every other option gets?

Because from where I sit, I certainly don't think they are picked on nearly as much as others.

Yes, in most cases consolites, spew mis information and hype things up and try to make their games/console bigger then slice bread, then Pc gamers tend or try to knock them out the their "happy place" and thats where the Pc bashing,hate, and the versusing comes in. This is why you see this console game x is better then this pc game y in every way including graphics etc. They try to defend late 2004 based closed hardware system because they cant or wont come to terms that there is something out there that whoops up on their favorite console in many ways. 04dcarraher

There are elitists on all platforms, using them really isn't a valid argument for the disportionate hate PC gaming gets. It's almost like some people want to see the platform crash and burn, even though ultimately it would not be in the interests of consoles in the long term.

I agree. The 360/PS3 users look down on the Wii users because the Wii is "not t3h hardcorez!1."

wrong ... it is better. I won't agree that console gaming is better because it isn't. Easier for new gamers to get into? Yes.... barely. People claim ease of use but honestly its not hard to hit next 5 times and finish installing. Better graphics, more stable online community in games ( we dont have people jumping ship after the next big bad game comes out every month (Uncharted 2 almost everyone left for MW2 ... really?), better communication, more mics per player count, etc etc.... but most of all i go into a game and dont have 8/10 people in the lobby screaming random obscenities to eachother like a big cluster $*%$ of testosterone injected 17 year olds. People on the PC respect each other, maybe it has something to do with the fact that we dont use matchmaking and thus we actually see each other more than once in a lifetime... i just think the online communities for console gaming are trash, all it is is pure trash talk and then back to matchmaking for another random throw up of people.... its sad.ColdfireTrilogy

better graphics dont equate ... better? Better online community doesnt equate to better? Get more bang for your buck, ie longer shelf life online, mods, player made content etc, in the long run doesnt equate to better???? (by this i mean i figure you all own PCs, most of which were at LEAST 400, probably much higher if you have a laptop. So rather than spending 600$ on a laptop + 300$ for a console, just get one and have it do everything). I fail to see how these things arent better. the console experience to the pc experience is different neither is better.

better graphics depends on the hardware. you may not get better graphics, not to mention it may be an irrelevant point.

better community is subjective

mods are available but a user may not care.

theyre not better. just different.

the pc is all about choice, the choice to use mods, the choice to have better graphics, the choice to set custom settings, the choice to do w.e the **** you want.

the consoles its all about an equal experience, yes you may not have the option to go above and beyond but neither does anyone else, and it also means a relatively 'easier' and mor epolished experience.

those two philosophys even apply to games on the platforms. pc centric games offer more choice these games tend to succeed on the pc. on the console games that tend to be tightly linear scripted but that offer polished experiences tend to do well, yet theyre not cross applicable. its the reason why console games tend to do poorly on the pc nothing to do with piracy.

that said, neither experience is better. like i said they offer different experiences to different users.

this whole better thing used to come from pure elitism usually steming from the fact that pc gaming took more effort thus pc gamers felt themselves superior. now its coming from crossplatform games. the consoles are trying to be pcs and failing horribly, theyre also losing their identity in the process. consoles are basically killing themselves in more ways than one.

i dont like consoles anymore they are just like PCs now, long time ago you could put games in it and start without installing and patches yadeyade i really loved my psone. But this generation dont makes sense to own a console while you can build a much better system by your self.

Basically, if you spend too much time in system wars, you learn to hate one thing or another. best advice is to stay out of system wars, play the games you want to play on whatever system, or pc, you want to play them on.

I dont want PC gaming to die. I just want PCgamers to quit shoving m/k,Crysis,and we've had HD for 50 years down everyones throat. Heck im gonna either upgrade my 5 year old PC or buy another one or even looking at buying a decent notebook to do some gaming again. I love all gaming systems. I just hate people being forcefull with things.

I think they are making the argument that the exclusivity of MGS4 says something bad about PC and something good about PS3.

Yeah those developers loved working on the PS3. Like the way they talked about the PS3 not meeting their expectations during development, the multiple Sony product placement that clearly didn't show Sony had any control over the game; and the way they went on to make a cross platform MGS game as their very next major project.

They really loved the PS3.

This person probably thinks many games being PS3 exclusive had nothing to do with Sony just happening to be the publisher.

this is what I call an unsecure attitude, when consolites say the same thing, they don't see it as elitism, they see it as defending their platform with reason.

but when pc gamers defend their system, it's elitism.

Because PC gamers can be pompous elitists, and they don't seem to understand that I don't care how much better Crysis looks than Uncharted 2.
