I am not sure why people are complaining about the PS3 price. I for one have a 360 and a PS3 and I can tell you in terms of features and quality PS3 beats the 360 hands down. Now that Blu Ray is taking off it makes it even easier to justify the 600$ tag. The Blu Ray movies look fantastic. If you really do a side by side comparison of the PS3 and 360 features you will clearly see the PS3 is worth the extra $$$ in my opinion.

Even though I have a Wii, 360, and PS3 I find myself using the PS3 more than the Wii and 360.

HD DVD is dead! It is a fact after the Blockbuster annoucement. So if you buy a 360 + a Blu Ray player you are going to pay a way more than 600$. If your just buying it for games than I can see why 600$ might be too much but if you look at the total package it 's a great deal hands down.

most of the people who say its bad are the younger kids who dont have a use for the multimedia. its understandable they might not use the blu ray, i think its a nice feature, along with many others. to each his own i guess.

If this catches on the entire need for Bluray in games dies.

Wait Disregard that. I forgot the ps3 isn't about games.

not real familiar with it are you? they have been using it since the mid 80's in games. almost 25 years, and still hasnt become a standard, kinda hints that it wont be for a long time huh? plus with Carmacks mega texture taking up like 20gig per level, that and hard drives will still be needed, even with severe compression.

plus its used for HD format for movies, which is a big industry also, if you havent noticed, most people enjoy movies.

Because its a rip off. I don't care about BR nor any of the other multimedia functions of the PS3 (I have a PCand a 360for that) and the game lineup sucks hard.

because 600 is a lot of money, obviously you have money because you have all three console. The everyday jobob can't afford a 600 system. Second, if was compairing system side x side. I would choose the 360, blueray is great but not needed.

You make it seem like people don't want one? It's not in terms of the price being justified, it's just a lot of money, that's all, people are looking at this way too hard or at the wrong anglesuch asyourself.

They forced bluray on us. IT's simple. It reminds me of the PSP. It was hyped as a game machine +. But ended up a movie player.

Disc gaming was in the works before the Super Nintendo. Kind of took a while to catch on didn't it? PC games are already starting to use this, look at Spore. If that game takes off other developers could possibly see the insane potential in it.

Plus the failing point of the PS3 is its focus on "WELL U CAN PLAY HD MOVIES ON IT WITHOUT ADDONS LOL" is the fact game consoles are about games. If you wanted to buy something to play movies buy a damn DVD player. Those manage to fill up HDTV's screens whether you want to believe it or not.

odd, since the 360 has pressed heavily on being a multimedia machine also. they are trying to add a tivo like feature, and have a marketplace to download movies, etc. looks like they arent the only ones huh? disc gaming caught on relatively quick for how fast the market was changing at the time. technology was nothing in terms of speed of developement it is today. believe what you want, you will be watching blu ray in 2 years tops

A. $600 for a a console that offers nothing atm is a waste of money. If some games come out and there's a price drop I might consider buying one.

B. Don't care about blue ray (don't care about HD DVD for that matter too) I'm perfectly happy with my obsolete DVDs :)

C. $600 will go to a much better use to buy all the games coming out this year. 8)

right, but the fact that every movie studio but 1 is on blu ray, and nothing is coming to HD DVD this year kinda hints that its done. i think lots of people will quote you on that, and you will have to eat it.

Because first and formost it's a games console and the majority of people who were loyal to sony the past two generations cannot justify paying that much money for a games console. Me included.

Yes I'm aware as a blu-ray player it is cheap but the fact is it's not needed YET and until Sony drops the price substantially I feel sales will continue to be slow.

I agree the price is still a little too steep. I currently download HD movies on my PC and 360, which are both connected to the same 40" HDTV, so I will probably never buy movies on either new format. I believe digital downloads will actually win the format war.

If this is what happens, then my gaming system's primary function will need to be gaming, and there had better be developer support for it...

It's six hundred fudging dollars. Know how many parents in the real world will buy their kids a $600 toy? Everyone under eighteen spends three months saving up for something that expensive, and college students have tuition, rent, food, car insurance, textbooks, et cetera to deal with.

Then there's the small issue of the PS3 lacking a games library. Exluding Blu-Ray, what does the PS3 offer to beat the Xbox 360, PC, or Wii *right now* (don't rattle off a 2008 release list, games that are out right now if I buy a PS3)? What do I take home with the $600 machine other than Blu-Ray movies to make it worthwhile?

$600 isn't a value when the competition gives you the same (or better) graphics, sound, and far better gameplay, for quite a bit less money.

A decent gaming PC (athlon x2, 2gb ddr2, radeon x1950pro) starts around $400 if you have an existing PC for parts / operating system. An Xbox 360 starts around $300, and a Wii at $250. For someone who's looking to game, what does your $600 box offer that my $250, $300, and $400 alternatives don't?

If you have to resort to saying "Blu-Ray" or pretending the PS3 can graphically beat a PC or 360, you now understand the denial that has lead to Sony's utter failure in the marketplace.

No... The honor of being the most expensive console goes to the 3D0, which started at a staggering $699 in 1993. We all know happened to that console, right? ;)

$600 is alot despite what you might get for it. It's not a debate about if the playstation 3 stinks or you won't get some fun out of it, but $600 is just too freaking much for alot of us. Either way you've made NO new arguements and this has been debated to death. Try again.

(oh and for those of us without HD tvs, blu-ray and HD DVD can bite me. I just want to game, not invest in a home theater)

Nobody cares about blu ray yet, so even though its technically a good deal people want a games machine, for which £400 is a rip off. Its a tactical error in the short term by sony, I think in a couple of years it might pay off. But personally I see the future of movies/games etc is downloadable content, as in downloading all the stuff and saving it on a hard drive...bye bye discs. So ye...people hate the price tag because people want a games machine.

With Sony and Nintendo teaming up to bring 1080p to the Wii, there is no need for a Batsu Baku 360.

Its a tactical error in the short term by sony, I think in a couple of years it might pay off. But personally I see the future of movies/games etc is downloadable content, as in downloading all the stuff and saving it on a hard drive...bye bye discs. So ye...people hate the price tag because people want a games machine.Blayrre_D

No, I purchased a PS3 specifically for Blu-Ray. I have no interest in training to become a criminal.

It's still the most expensive console ever. Thank God that a price drop is in the works.

No... The honor of being the most expensive console goes to the 3D0, which started at a staggering $699 in 1993. We all know happened to that console, right? ;)

Well, I guess a $500-plus price tag doesn't seem so bad compared to 700 large. Yipes. The difference between Panasonic and Sony is immense, though. Panasonic had how many consoles before the 3D0? Sony has had two highly successful consoles. I don't think their third is going in the crapper just yet. This bad boy has many GOOD years left on it.

Peace.

Learn to spell "shouldn't".

Perhaps you should play more Brain Age and stop training to become a criminal with Halo.

Oh sorry for putting an ' in the wrong place hardly a spelling error. At least I'm not in bragging about all the stuff mommy and daddy bought me. People like you make me sick.

Sorry, I'm not interested in training to become a criminal.

Care to explain what buying a Wii, PC, or Xbox 360 has to do with "training to become a criminal?"

Blockbuster doesn't decide the Format War. HD DVD will win. You may quote me.

right, but the fact that every movie studio but 1 is on blu ray, and nothing is coming to HD DVD this year kinda hints that its done. i think lots of people will quote you on that, and you will have to eat it.

HD DVD will have no more releases this year

Here is the release schedule for HD DVD that have confirmed dates link If you count they have more than Blu-ray does for the rest of the year. Blu-ray's

The reason people complain is because most people intend to use it primarily for playing games, not Blu-ray. And if you were to compare the PS3 games side-by-side to the 360, the PS3 would lose.
