Why are sales important to you?

well, why? i hear all these trivial discussions about sales, i doubt more than 1% of you on this forum are affected by it. this should not be the basis on which someone is owned. the games should be, i am a ps3 fanboy but i gotta admit that 360 has a better lineup at the present, that will change with time. Wii owners well i feel sorry that the only decent games you get are from ninty only. these debates about ownage over sales is stupid, you dont get a goalsharing check from either of these companies.

In the past sales determined 3rd party support but since that no longer is a factor who cares any more.

It's just a wierd gen in many ways, the 360 is going to slip into last place and since the owners buy games like crazy it makes no difference at all and strangely enough MS is still adding new 3rd party devs all the time instead of losing dev interest.

Well, for non-fanboys. It's good for all the consoles to have good sales. Good sales increase competitive-ness. And like I said in my last post, could lead to better, more innovative games.

Good sales= Sequel

Other than that, I could careless about sales.

cows and lemming need sales every week so they can say wich cosole is better based on sales

sheep dont need them anymore course they are too high (maybe it change one day )

developer need sales too if they want to sell there games

non fanboys need sales to see if there is hope for more support in the future

SW need sales too have a winner

yes sales are needed ! not for everyone but for the most HERE in SW

Sales are not important to real gamers. The least sold console this gen could easily be the best console with the most great games this generation.

It's as simple as that .

dont you think its so clear that nobody need too talk about sales for the wii ?

if you look at sw wars you dont find much sales topics started from sheep but every day there are comparisons between 360 sales and ps3 sales !

sad thing is i use to pay attention to reviews and would not buy or play games based on a review, i have missed out on so many great games because of that thinking, now i could careless about a review.

Sales have mattered in every generation so far. However, now that the Wii is winning, no one cares for them anymore it seems. Why is that so? Is it not common sense that developers will support the console with the largest userbase? They would certainly reach more people that way which increases the chances of their games selling more. Furthermore, the PS2 did get trash games as well, but they also had a few gems here and there.

Yes, we are gamers and we care about games. Nevertheless, the link between sales and games is apparent undeniable. The more games there are, the higher the chances that one of them will be a good game. The PS1 and the PS2 are perfect examples of this. I do not understand why we suddenly exclude sales. People comment with silly remarks such as "I have no stock at Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft, so why should I care if their consoles sell a lot? I get nothing from it." O rly?

Sales mean that your console will

1. Receive support.

2. That the chances of your system getting good games is increased.

3. That your console will have a longer lifespan if it does well.

Point 3 is actually quite interesting. Why do you think Microsoft dropped support for the Xbox so early? Well, they had to get a headstart. That's what they thought anyway. The PS3 would be one heck of a challenge after all. If the Xbox had done better in sales, it would have received a higher amount of support, higher chances of getting good games and a longer lifespan.

Oh, and the Wii and the PS3 have only been out for what? 9 months? Or is it 10? Nobody expected much from the Wii in the beginning, did they? Developers were basically overrun with the success of the Wii.

No sales = no new games. That affects me because I can't play games if they don't even exist. You fail.

Vicmackey does have a point. If the sales were really bad for any of these consoles they wouldn't be getting much 3rd party support. It's actually working out pretty good though since they are all relatively doing well. So for now I don't think anyone wasted their money if they purchased any of the 3 current consoles.

It could very well be effecting you if say for instance you bought a PS3 during the launch. A year later its only sold around 4 million systems. All the 3rd party developers would probably drop their products and switch to a platform with a bigger installment base. Luckily, that doesn't look it will happen. Anyone remember the Dreamcast, 3DO, TurboGraphic? Probably not.

TC, there is nothing that ticks me off more than when people talk about "sales". The only people "sales" are important to is MS, Sony, and Nintendo. It ticks me off so bad when people talk about sales. taj7575
