@NoodleFighter: They usually dont go down for long. Any service will have those issues. I use to have them all the time on Bnet. PSN also has more members then any online service PERIOD! Compare it now to what it was 10 years ago and the fact it has 3x the numbers and id say its without question gotten better. Not to mention the sheer amount of AAA games they invest in.

And yes cheating is still a big deal on PC. Its not a big issue for Esports because those take place locally. But for the average joe playing online ive encountered it far more on PC then consoles.

I pay to play on consoles so I don't have to associate with filthy, basement dwelling neckbeards.

I don't get it either. I'm butthurt Nintendo is requiring to pay soon.

Serious question. If I get these "free games" via PSN or XBL do I still get to keep them if I stop paying for the online service?

@NoodleFighter: Im sorry but if $50 a year breaks you you need a new hobby. PSN was free for nearly 6 years and Sonys gaming division went nearly bankrupt. I enjoy playing online and not having to worry about all the pricks who use maphacks and aim bots so $50 a year to avoid that is worth it. If it wasnt for console gaming full priced games would be all but extinct as PC gamers are fully content by getting raped with microtransactions. Meanwhile on PC you have your collection of games spread throughout 5 ecosystems while on consoles you have them all in one place.

$50 a year? More like $60 a year now since Sony increased the price of PSN+ back in November for the US and in August and September for Canada, Europe and other regions. Also keep in mind in some countries such as Canada and India PSN+ and XBL Gold cost more than the equivalent of $60 USD there. What's stopping Sony and M$ from increasing the price from $60 to $70 this year or next or at the start of the next gen of consoles? You don't even have choice of paying for something like EA Access just because Sony themselves decided it wasn't a good enough value for gamers. While being spread across different clients may be less convenient it as the advantage of your entire online gaming system being taken down. PSN and XBL go down from time to time so your $50-$60 a year clearly aren't being put to good use. It's practically a tradition for PSN and XBL to be down when its the holiday season. PSN is also really slow at downloading games especially in comparison to Steam. You can't even change your name on PSN.

If hacking was that bad on PC hardly one would play online games and Esports wouldn't be dominated by PC.

Gaming online for free is certainly an advantage to PC gaming, but paying for online arguably gets you a better regulated experience, with less cheaters overall. Also Steam's interface is quite a mess in comparison to the Playstation store, Xbox marketplace or Eshop imo.

What makes Steam's interface a mess in comparison to the ones on console?

I just think there's so much shovelware on Steam now, that a lot of good games seem to get buried under it all. It makes navigating the store quite a pain in the butt at times. You can search for indies on their own, but there's no easy way to separate the indies from other things you may be looking for. Also it's great that early access allows the lesser know developers a chance to get their games onto a marketplace, but there's a lot of early access titles that just end up being half finished and never released, which then avalanche the games list even more.

I get that it's an enormous library of games they sell, I just wish they had a better way or organising, and categorising them all. Perhaps if they added some better search filter options, it would end up being more intuitive to use. That being said, I don't think that Steam is a terrible store, and it's awesome that they allow refunds now. I just think there's room for improvement with it.

Why do PC elitists always have to have a superiority complex over a simple hobby? When console fanboys bicker, its easy to see that it's just a bunch of kids arguing over plastic, but why PC? You see the "peasant" name calling on threads, and the only rational reason I can think of is the need to still feel relevant.

Nobody really cares how powerful your PC is. If you bragged about it in real life "umm, okay good for you" would most likely be the response. so people have to make threads and call names to feel superior.

My Dad and I built a 66' Nova SS but you don't see me making threads trash talking Honda Civic owners because well, nobody cares and It's a super douchey thing to do.

You say this, yet every other thread is a consolite bragging about the graphics on his preferred console compared to the other console. Hypocrite much?

Negative. You either keep the PS3 or Xbox 360 games, can't remember which one. But you don't get to keep any of the PS4 or Xbone games.

Gaming PCs cost $2000

I just built a new PC for $1200 USD this month (GTX 1080 and Ryzen R5 1600).

Just over twice as expensive as an X1X but several dozen times more powerful.

by what metric is that setup "several dozen" times more powerful?

Edit: The CPU is many times more powerful, but a 1080 is probably only twice as powerful as a One X

Would be pretty close in Base5

The only people who make this argument are those that don't game on PC. I haven't encountered a hacker in competitive games (CS:GO, OW, R6, etc.) in at least 5 years. Anti-cheat systems have gotten incredibly efficient. Hacking was only really a problem back in the CS 1.6 days. With Source, Valve really stepped up their game, and in the current era of competitive games, all the anti-cheat systems are fantastic.

I get to keep 24 of those 48, Xbox 360 games are for keeps, the other 24 XB1 games sure, available as long as I have an active XBL subscription. I have more than enough time to put them behind me for good.

Okay, first, you generalized all PC gamers into one, asking why PC gamers like to brag so much. Second, you chastised them and tell them no one cares about their PC specs.

So, it's okay for you to generalize all PC gamers into one, but when I say console gamers make threads about their own graphical prowess, it's automatically not okay?

Do you know the definition of a hypocrite?

I'd rather it was free, but I do a lot of online gaming so paying a little bit yearly doesn't bother me. Plus it's easily made back with the games they offer with plus.

Kids don't play on PC. Parents are far more likely to buy a cheapo console for their kid than a $1000+ gaming rig. No cheaters anymore either. Modern anti-cheat systems are excellent.

@DragonfireXZ95: ohhh too bad I said PC elitists so it's not generalizing all PC gamers. Re-read my first sentence for that. And I mentioned Console gamers arguing being children (again 2nd sentence) so I'm not sure you know the definition of hypocrite.

My question was more relevant than"why do console peasants pay for online?" Why do PC elitists have to mention superiority constantly unless it's from insecurity? PC is superior to consoles, everyone knows it, but for some reason the giant seems to need to remind everyone that he is the biggest in the room. Why? My rationale was because the average person in real life does'nt care what graphics card you have so you have to feel superior online. So far, you proved my point by simply calling me a hypocrite and ignoring my other points. If you have another rational reasoning other than insecurity for why PC elitists feel that way I would love to hear it, because so far, you have dodged the question :-)

I read your initial cringey post and they haven't gotten any better. It is moronic to come into a System Wars thread and scold someone for being divisive and asserting a superiority complex in regards to their preferred gaming platform. I'm not sure why you're having so much trouble with this aside from being triggered.

@Johnny-n-Roger: it's an honest johnny. Everyone knows PC is superior, so again, why does the giant need to tell everyone in the room they are the biggest? My rationale was insecurity and to feel superior online to counteract real life. So far no one has brought up a counter point, only throw insults and dodge my points. Sorry Johnny, but your quip didn't add anything to my question. So far i'm either i'm a hypocrite for not lashing out a console fanboys at the same time I posted this, or i'm dumb for going to system wars "scold someone on a preference." - and i'm the triggered one lol

You were obviously mad about this whole thread. The OP didn't once mention his PC specs or how much the console specs suck, so I'm not even sure why you're trying to find an answer to that question here.

Since the OP didn't even mention his PC specs, yet you mentioned it, I assumed you were generalizing; because, obviously, if the OP didn't mention that, then you couldn't have been talking about him, so who were you speaking of? The general PC community, perhaps?

Also, as Johnny-N-Roger mentioned, it's system wars. Of course one group of people is going to gloat if they have an up on everyone else, hence why I also generalized(as you did, even though you claimed you didn't).

Yes you're correct - PC players have no concept of having a first-party. Rather, they surrender control of their pseudo-platform to opportunistic, un-regulated clients.

They're all driving kit cars and having them serviced at unauthroised dealers.

ironic, being that consoles are restricted to running nothing but proprietary software. You're literally at the mercy of the manufacturer to allow you to have certain features.

To complete your shitty analogy you must also describe how having a console is like having an average tier car that only an authorized dealer can even unlatch the hood or pop the trunk. Also, any parts, accessories, and fuel products must be certified by the dealer. It's the best situation for someone who's mechanically inept.

you've pretty much gone into at least 3 threads now and said something to the effect of "Why do other people care?"

I honestly don't think most people in here do. It's kind of like how no one argues about politics expecting to change anyone elses mind. It's just a way to affirm one's worldview I guess.

You're not at the mercy of the manufacturer, they're at your service. This is something Valve cannot and will not ever give you. PC has not first-party, no continuity of the R&D.

It has mixed hardware controlled by a corp. who didn't manufacture the hardware and (some) drivers, then you launch another client (third-party) to launch software that the client does not specifically support, and then you plug hardware into this that is self-selected and unknown to the developer. And you call this superior...

No company cares about your PC, and any game you play on it is an experience no other user is getting. So it's a pseudo-platform in every way.

Probably cause some of us are successful and the cost really doesn’t matter. If paying for online is an issue to an individual, I surmise, that individual isn’t successful.
