especially when they got a capable computer?

why'd someone prefer the console version of a game, when it plays and runs better on their computer?

Some say because the Pc is a hassle or they hate keyboard + mouse and so on.

But, you just need to install the game and click on the icon and you're done. plus, you can play games on Pc with a controller, too.

Games are less expensive on Pc, you got wonderful deals on Steam, but someohow many gamers still prefer getting the weaker, more expensive console version of that game.

I understand exclusives and console only games, but when it comes to multiplats.. like who the hell witha fine Pc would play Mafia 2 on console?

Preference. People will prefer what they prefer, whether it's for ease of use, the way their setup is positioned (i.e. consoles on large TV), unified online system etc, etc.

Well I don't have a very good PC and can't really upgrade right now. If I had a capable PC I would most likely use it, but until then it's mainly consoles for me.

Mostly because they can't pay or lack the knowledge to built one. Easy as that. Most of them will say they prefer controller or simplicity but PC always had something magical. Almost all my friends have consoles including me a 360. But when they come over you can t beat them away from behind my rig.

They're less of a hassle, and equally important, there's less potential hassle. As long as nothing's wrong with your console, and nothing's wrong with the network, it's damn likely that the game is going to work the first time, and damn likely that the game is going to work every time. Then there's the fact that, by dropping the general-purpose parts of the OS and interface, it becomes much simpler to use them from a couch with a gamepad. Designing for a TV requires an entirely different approach to user interface design - look up "ten foot interface" for information on this topic. I understand that the PC has better graphics, but I find that it's worth giving that up for ease of use. Not everyone will feel the same way, but I'm happy with it.

Yup. Grew up with consoles. Its just what I choose to roll with. Though I do have a pretty good rig, I just stick with what I know and leave the pc to exclusives. Usually.

I don't see why we try to quantify this. It's a waste of time, and continuously either side forgets about many variables :P

These are the main reasons i think. Other reason can be because of exclusives ofcourse but PC has also it s own exclusives.

Probably for the same reasons you prefer games on the PC, I enjoy the ease of use and convenience they provide -- not to mention that games on my 360 add to my gamerscore and i know people who play on the 360.

Convenience is a fairly ambiguous way of looking at it. Both have forms of convenience over the other (PC has the convenience of being able to offer more to users who need more - i.e. internet browsing, video/image editing, etc.) Consoles offer things such as simplistic and unified UI, lack of the necessities of worrying about compatability etc.

Both systems offer trade-offs.

Because the gaming audience is huge now. Most people only know games as things you put in consoles and play with controllers. Of course, people who would frequent a site like this know better.

Comfort. I love my couch and big TV. Though mods are great, I would much rather play Oblivion or some platformer on my TV than on my PC. Now, before you haters hate, please know that I equally enjoy games like TF2, NWN and The Witcher on PC.

Because it's easier for the casual person who isn't serious enough to get into all the technicalities of PC gaming to just pick up and play. I'm a PC gamer and I also have a 360 and PS3.I much prefer PC of course, but the average person won't know enough about specs, hardware etc. to get into PC gaming,so consoles are generally more popular.

People like to play games with their friends. Weird I know..

My friends own a PS3. I got one. I'm sorry but multiplayer games fail almost all the time when you don't play with people you know no matter what the game is. There's VERY few games that are an exception.

I think the biggest reasons are: simplicity and marketing.

When most of your friends have a console, you'll obviously want it too. I'm fortunate enough to have a few friends who play the same PC games that I do, so I see no reason to own a console.

Most people don t understand that simplicity withstands PC gamers from going to consoles. I myself would get bored as fck to sit on front of my TV and start a machine with wich i can only game with. Just staring at your screen lol.

When im playing games I want to be downloading movies at the same time, tune in to favorite radio channels, watch/listen streams, play with graphical settings, chat on irc/STEAM with friends, surf websites and more.

Mostly all PC gamers are like this. Sorry but I just can't see myself sitting in the living room in front of the television with the solely purpose of gaming lol.

Gauloisess
That's why you prefer the PC which is your opinion, other people don't share that opinion and like the things that consoles offer that perhaps their PC's don't have. In the end it just comes down to preference.

I am probably more "hardcore" than any gamer you'll ever meet (see signature). Further, I have extensive knowledge about computers. I build them, I fix them, I run multiple OSes, and I know how to maintain them. My preference for consoles has nothing to do with me being "casual" or inexperienced with a PC. While I love my gaming PC and I play it a lot, I still prefer consoles due to the elephant in the room that most PC gamers ignore: genre representation. As far as mainstream releases go PC doesn't have a lot outside of shooters, strategy titles, simulators, puzzle games, and WRPGs (MMO or otherwise). Sure, there are some great indie platformers and SHMUPs and such, but in general you don't see as many great fighting games, platformers, sports titles, hack n slash, minigame compilations, arcade styIe games in general, local multiplayer games in general, beat em ups, JRPGs, etc, etc etc. PC definitely offers the best experience for certain genres, but the problem is finding games beyond that.

Actually you do see many hack n slash, sport titles, and platformers on PC. Your statement of "mainstream" is the key. Yes. you won't see super hyped, ad focus, "gamespot launch center" posters everywhere releases on Pc but their are many that release within alot of the genre's you stated.

That's basically it. Consoles have mainstream appeal, convenience, simplicity, an initial sense of affordability and accessability.

The most successful home consoles -- the ones which sell the best -- often offer something unique, or are priced competitively enough to make gaming PCs look expensive ($299 or lower).

If I to guess, I would say because it's more convenient. Initial purchase is a lot cheaper (which goes with convenience: you can run Crysis high for $600 you just have to bend over backwards). Different type of games and exclusives.

Friends lists, I know Steam has them but it's just not the same (or as good). Plus my Steam account has gotten stolen twice!! Controller, I don't like having a huge gap between my hands (same reason I hate the Wii). Acheivements/trophies, again I know some PC games have them, but there not really the same. Maybe because being on PC you can totaly cheat to get them all.
