It's funny to see all the cows that posted here defend paying to play online now.

Ribnarak

Biggest bunch of hypocrites I ever seen.

at that time, it was a valid arguement. i fail to see the hypocritism . Im with sony but cmon no one like to pay to play online.

before: pay to play is bad
after: it's okay

its more like pay to play is bad when there is a similar service that's free. Now it's: psn is better because of ps+. Cows will just keep finding a reason.

it's the fault of the 360 fanboy that bent over for a decade and took it while smiling. Sony's been losing money over providing a free online service with so many benefits this entire time and who the hell knows what's up with Nintendo's barebones service. PC gamers though have shown you can't force them because they can easily find MANY ways around it.

It's as I said far back before this was announced that everyone would need to pay to play online next gen. MS showed the world they can charge money for something that ISN'T substantially better and people would still flock to them in droves.  Why wouldn't sony follow suit after seeing that? This is unlike the Xbox One fiasco where MS's schemes failed miserably and sony did not follow, which caused MS to 180 to save face.

Nobody here wants to pay for online play on the playstation, but acting as if it is worse or even remotely as bad as having to pay for Gold is just a lie and you know it.

lol, the one advantage PSN had, price, is now gone. ouch.

sebbi11

it's still cheaper and there are still other advantages to psn...

Xbox Live Gold is a much more advanced online service than Playstation Network, but I still hate the fact that online play requires Xbox Live Gold.

it is easier to answer why people pay for psn.

to pay for sonys $400,000 fine for having such an incompetent online service.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has been fined £250,000 ($396,100) following a "serious breach" of the Data Protection Act.

UK authorities said a hack in April 2011 "could have been prevented".

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)criticised the entertainment giant for not having up-to-date security software.

Wow, are you actually saying that MS is leader because they charge to play online? Anyway, I'm very disappointed that Sony is now charging. Nevertheless, it was inevitable.
