Microsoft would start the new gen. People want whats new.

You think people are going to want that old PS3 that came out in 2006 or that new Xbox 720? A better product means nothing. Plenty of PS2 owners upgraded to 360 just because it was the new kid on the block.

I-Scarface-I

Microsoft & Sony have the credibility to start the next gen yes!

"A better product means nothing"

Dude this is scary. Cant tell if you are calling consumers stupid or saying that everyone is a follower....if "a better product means nothing" to the the people who buy product then we are doomed man. Seriously.

and Yet ps2 continued to outsell the 360 for 3 years after it released, proving you are wrong

Sony went from 1st last generation to 3rd this generation because they took so long with the PS3 after the Xbox 360.

Wrong answer!! The PS3 was very expensive, no if ands or buts about it. PS3 cost too much causing people to buy the Xbox 360 of the quality systems available.

-it would either be more expensive then ps3 or barely more powerful

momentum_god

Yes, the Next Xbox (what ever they call it) will be more expensive than PS3 and Xbox 360, in the same way X360 and PS3 cost more than PS2 and Xbox1. This didn't even need to pointed out.

But if you seriously believe that the 360 successor, a system that will feature tech anywhere from 6-8 years newer than PS3, will be only "barely more powerful" than the PS3... wow, you just have NO idea how technology works. And you can take this to the bank, that the tech hounds who crave the newest cutting edge will see that as a superior product to all the last gen systems. For early adopters it will be worth the extra cash, just as X360 was worth the extra cash over an outdated PS2 and Xbox1.

The only proper comparison to hold this next system against, is to the Sony and Nintendo successors. Which remains to be seen which will be more powerful, depending on what hardware and other innovations each invests into their latest models.

Someone needs to learn the definition of the word or, the lower the price the next console is made the less powerful it will be, so if they release something thats 300 it will be barely more powerful, if it's 400 it will be more powerful but nothing more then a high end pc not a massive omg this is so much better, and if they go much higher they will blow ps3 out of the water powerwise but with that price they won't sell anything especially with their weak first party in other words I'm not saying it won't be more powerful I'm just saying it won't be that much more powerful if competitively priced

MS would definitely try to launch first again because they know that's the only reason they are up at this point

momentum_god
Yes but how would that force Sony to release a new one?

Nothing is "forcing" anything on Sony. It's just a guess that maybe they learned something and would like to release first to gain dominance again, if only just over Microsoft, since Nintendo seems to be the big thing now.

learned what, the lead console has almost never been the one that launched first, it was price point and lack of games that hurt the ps3 at launch and they can put the next 360 in the position of higher price point and less good games by just supporting the ps3, besides MS isn't their main competitor for marketshare, Nintendo is
