How would your opinion hold more weight just by being a PC gamer?

washd123

'pc games break just as often'

well how would you know that if youre not a pc gamer?

its like me claiming that my jetta is a better driving experience than a chevy cobolt without ever having driven one

Because the total failure rate of my three PC games is infinitely higher than my console game failure rate.

and every console ive owned has broken more often than my computer.

must mean my claim that consoles are extremely unreliable and more so than a pc is right. (that wasnt my claim just an example)

Reason #1 It is much more convenient and easy to console game. With PCs, you have to know how to build a PC, or drop bank to buy a new one. And even if you did drop a ton of money on a new one, you would eventually have to buy a graphics card and know how to do that without destroying your computer. Most people don't want to take the risk.

Reason #2 The ability to play on the couch. Most people don't want to sit in front of a desk, they want to relax on their couches. Yea you can do that with the PC, but it's so much more of a hassle, lugging that thing around, than it is an Xbox of Playstation.

Reason #3 Ease of local multiplayer. It's far easier to pick up and play with buddies on a console than it is a PC. Again, this may be a mobility factor, but also the ease of just picking up a controller and turning it on.

Reason #4 Because people like the controller more than the mouse and keyboard. I sure do, the mouse and keyboard you have to be at desk, the controller you do not. Now people will say you can use a controller on the PC, but if you do, you get blown out of the water by everyone with a mouse and keyboard. Controllers aren't as precise as a mouse. It just doesn't become fun when you're getting rocked.

Overall more gamers enjoy consoles over PCs, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

"Because the total failure rate of my three PC games is infinitely higher than my console game failure rate".

Then your one of the luck ones then because at least 3/4's of Xbox owers have had to replace, buy new, or get their's fixed. And then half of those have had to do it 2+ more times.

pc gaming really is separate from console gaming. They are obviously similar but they evolved differently. Consoles were always next to a television and appealed to a different, more mainstream audience. Consoles do represent a larger gaming community, in NA anyway, even though just about everyone has a pc. Pcs don't count while they aren't being used for gaming btw. (i wonder if playing solitare or little flash games count though.... it seems like they should but they shouldn't).

1. no its not. no you dont, and no. and eventually youll have to buy a new console. so reason number 1 dies

2. again no. hows is 'lugging' a pc any different than lugging a console? theyre not much bigger. theres no more wires. theres nothing different. so reason number 2 dies.

3. o really and just how many console games allow that these days? reason number 3 dead

4. use a controller you said it yourself, and if youre getting owned unless its like counterstike or UT2k4 or quake 3 you just suck. reason number 4 dead.

thanks for playing try again

RROD has nothing to do with the 360's ability to reliably actually play any given game.

Console is more convienent. Most people do not want to install a new graphics card, extra RAM, mess with bios etc. Not suprising... Going to bestbuy and buying a console is easier than browsing Newegg all day ordering parts.

A big screen HDRV and a couch > PC Monitor and chair.

No need to check system reqs.

Rentals.

Local multiplayer, and everyone's friends has a 360/PS3.

Buying Computers is so much stress. I've been a PC gamer since 2001 (Diablo 2 LoD) and not long ago my gaming laptop broke down.

I'm struggling to get a PC under a $1500 budget...

no its not since you dont have to do any of those things

no need to check on the pc either

The 360 can play any game 100% of the time when not bricked, which is more than I can say for the PC.

In a way it is, knowing that it has issues still buying a poorly designed console(in terns hardware cooling), playing hours at a time, placing the console vertical or putting in a enclosed space.

Because consoles have for me an overall better experience, I get to play Tekken, Final Fantasy (non MMO), and more games than on the PC. PC is good for what it does but I prefer playing on a console cause it has more games for me.

apparently free online, cheaper games, mods, better performance and graphics are not decisive factors in choosing Pc over the consoles.

I don't think it's because of the price either..cause I mean, look at how expensive console games and accessories are. so what is it? lack of games on Pc? commercial? laziness?

My main problem with PC gaming is games not working. I can't afford a super computer, so more often than not, a new game won't work. When I buy an Xbox game, I know it is going to work.monkeytoes61

You should meet my old Xbox 360 (Bought it the first month it was released) My computer is FAR more reliable than that thing ever was.

Well I must be one lucky bastard because me and a lot of my friends never had a PC game "not work" if their PC met the system requirements. Sure there are some glitches here and there, and it's not like consoles are any better on that end, otherwise I would never have to update my PS3 firmware.

1) I don't own a PC. And before some halfwit asks: "well how are you typing this post?", I have a Mac. I like it for video editing. I do have Windows XP via bootcamp and I play Team Fortress 2 but it can't handle much more than that nor do I want to take up hard drive space for games. The only other game I'll be getting is Diablo 3.

I could buy a PC for games but I prefer consoles for this reason:

Local multiplayer.

It's just easier and simpler to hook up 4 controllers to a X360 and have some fun. I have roommates and we all like to play together. Also, the exclusives on the Wii are a blast.

I might get a PC someday, as I do want to play my RPGs on it, but not now.

RROD has nothing to do with the 360's ability to reliably actually play any given game.

789shadow

It cant play a game if its broke :P, And their are games even on the 360 that can be unplayable because of bugs in the game, or a bad copy.

The 360 can play any game 100% of the time when not bricked, which is more than I can say for the PC.

Really? because I get disc read errors quite frequently... funny how that happens then.

You should say for your PC and not the PC.

That would be accurate.

I hate to have to worry about getting a powerful enough PC, and whether or not it meets requirements for games I want. Having a console, you can just hook it up to your TV and be absolutely positive you can run any game you buy safely. Also consoles are much cheaper, and unlike PCs they can't get viruses (at least as easily). It would suck having some $1,000 powerhouse gaming PC, only to have it ruined by a virus. And ya there's protection for that, but the last Windows computer I had, even with a top notch virus protection caught a single virus that destroyed the security and allowed hundreds more viruses to attack my PC. I switched to Mac after that, and the best I can do on that is play The Orange Box with Crossover Games. All in all a gaming console is just a much, much more user friendly system than a PC is. No building, no worrying about requirements, none of that. Also I, as well as many others, much prefer to use a gamepad for gaming. Something like a Wii Remote fits fine simply because it still has A button, B button, D-Pad, analog stick, etc. that I'm familiar with, but going to PC, I don't enjoy playing with keyboard/mouse unless it's for FPS (which is of course the best control setup for the genre by far bar maybe IR and the Wii hasn't had any exceptional shooters yet), for games like platformers, action-adventure, ARPGS, and even turn-based RPGs, a good console controller just feels right to me. I'm also sure someone is gonna kill me for this but, consoles tend to have more variety all in all. The PC can be classified as an RPG and FPS system, while the 3 consoles combined span every single genre you can think of, from cooking sims to FPSs to RPGs to racing to action-adventure to sandbox action. Sure they have those on the PC but with the exception of FPS and RPG they tend to be much less immersive, at least in my experience.

If you buy a modern gaming PC, you don't really have to worry about this. Practically every last gaming computer on the market r ight now that is still in circulation can run every game on the market at console standards or better.

Having a console, you can just hook it up to your TV and be absolutely positive you can run any game you buy safely.

As you can with any modern gaming PC.

Also consoles are much cheaper,

Not necessarily. PCs nowadays are dramatically cheaper than they used to be. The entry level price for a console equivalent PC or slightly higher than is 100-200 dollars more than the console counterpart. That, however, is easily negated over the span of a generation thanks to cheaper games. All things considered equal, the PC can be cheaper than the console over the course of the generation. That includes used games too.

and unlike PCs they can't get viruses (at least as easily).

Then you should refrain from going to malicious websites. Most of the time, viruses came from someone going to websites they really have no business going to in the first place. You have no one to blame but yourself for a virus. It isn't a gaming computer's fault, its your own.

All in all a gaming console is just a much, much more user friendly system than a PC is. No building, no worrying about requirements, none of that.

As highlighted by my posts, it isn't anywhere near as large of a gap as you're making it out to be. Yes, the console is more user friendly, but only marginally so. All things considered equal, you'd really end up splitting hairs/seconds trying to argue which one is more user friendly. Once you get into that debate, you're just being difficult/sophist.

Any PC game you want to can be ran using a controller through third party software like joy to key. So not only does the PC have gamepads, but it has a wider variety of controller inputs thanks to the multiple gamepad manufacturers.

This is most assuredly wrong. The PC has tons of genres that you're not mentioning; the various strategy genres, the indie breakthrough games that aren't very present on consoles, adventure games and more. While there are genres that the PC generally lacks that the consoles have, it isn't necessarily so that the PC lacks variety, or that consoles have more variety. If anything, its about even; if not titled in the PC's favor.

PC people must really be running scared when posts like these show up everyday. What is there to understand? If someone wants to play Mario Galaxy, Halo 3 ODST or Uncharted 2....they have to buy a console to play them. So, what it comes down to is why someone would want to play those games instead of Rome Total War or Arma 2. Well you tell me.........

A 10 page thread from a statement made with no link, evidence or any basis at all to support it. People are so gullible on this forum. Bravo OP, you caught alot of fish in this ocean.

Well I must be one lucky bastard because me and a lot of my friends never had a PC game "not work" if their PC met the system requirements. Sure there are some glitches here and there, and it's not like consoles are any better on that end, otherwise I would never have to update my PS3 firmware.

Then I guess it's a case of your anecdotal evidence vs. my anecdotal evidence.

Well, I don't believe any of your stories. So we're equal.

PC gaming can be a hassle, and that's where console gaming comes in. Even though I like PC gaming, having to go the extra mile at times to get a game working properly gets annoying.
