The majority of people in the world does not prefer Consoles tho... Here in Europe, and all the way over to Asia PC is by far the preferred platform. And it is not like we dont have access to consoles either :S
That said There may be several reasons why the US likes consoles so much, they are a very cheap and comfortable alternative to the pc, you do not have to learn the inns and outs of a pc, and as others said it is easy to get games for them, no worries, no hassle.
I guess there are 2 reasons really, one of them Being that alot of people in the US simply dont have the energy and time to spare getting messed up wit hthe PC, and the fact that there are alot of people who are "gadgets" (a word often used to describe people who are always looking for the newest mainstream tech gadgets, and tossing them out whenever a newer version comes along).
So it is pretty much preferrence... they are two different groups of people, having different needs on the gaming front, its not really more complex then that.
1 - Aside from keyboard and mouse not more diff from console / pc games when compared next to each other. (i.e. MW2 , LFD2)
2 - EB/Gamestop have 95% shelf space for Console games. Even the PS2 Rack gets more space then PC games.
3- Cheaper to buy all 3 consoles then to buy a pc and upgrade it every few years.
4- Blizzard is pretty much the last PC game company that makes HIGH quailty PC exclusive games. Once they go console next gen (its only a matter of time) All pc will have left are low quality exclusive games.

3 - I'd like you to prove that.

why do people bother driving regular sports cars when they can drive customized sports cars.
They look better, perform better, better driving, more fun, ect.
The fact is not everybody has the knowledge to keep up w/ the genre.
W/ a console I buy the console and that's pretty much all I need to know. I buy a pc I'm looking at all my options for components: which brands are better? ASUS, biostar, ATI, Nvidia? what OS to get? Vista, XP, 7, Mac, linux? should I spend more for better performance?
PC gaming is an enthusiast platform... hence why most people who just want to play a game buy consoles.

Don't confuse high budget with high quality. It is not cheaper to buy all 3 consoles at launch price than it is to build a pc that will last the duration of a gen. The shelf space thing does suck if you don't have a fetish for steam, so I'll give you that. I'm not sure what you're saying in your first point.

The 3 games I've played on PC have failed to work more times than all of my other games combined in their history.

$10 bucks said something about them not working was your fault somewhere.
like me coming in and saying i put the disk upside down and the game didnt play.
This is the classic cop-out PC gamers use when comparing to consoles: "It must have been a user end problem". There's the answer to the thread. With so many options there's more potential for user end problems. Most people just don't want to play the guessing game that comes with PC gaming when things go wrong. In consoles, something goes wrong there's only a few conclusions to consider, usually it boils down to it being either the game or console. If it's the game, return it. If it's the console, return it. On PCs, it's either the game, the graphics card, the sound card, the CPU, the in-game settings, background programs, the OS, virus, etc. Sure, you have more control over your system as you can simply play Frankenstein and add a new part, but that's not gaming, is it? Gamers want to game, as in experience gameplay, not tinker with settings and hardware in order to achieve the ultimate goal which is to play a game. If you put the disc upside down then you are just an idiot. If your PC doesn't play a game, there's many reasons as to why it will not play.Buying Computers is so much stress. I've been a PC gamer since 2001 (Diablo 2 LoD) and not long ago my gaming laptop broke down.
I'm struggling to get a PC under a $1500 budget...

apparently free online, cheaper games, mods, better performance and graphics are not decisive factors in choosing Pc over the consoles.
I don't think it's because of the price either..cause I mean, look at how expensive console games and accessories are. so what is it? lack of games on Pc? commercial? laziness?

Like erm... Sofa?
Not worrying if a game works on your rig or not. etc.
Consoles its just shove the disc in, get something to drink, lay back and relax... :D
Consoles are more convenient. Like you said it's simple 'plug and play'
Compatability issues, check if your rig can run it at optimum settings.
Though I do think in some wierd way Consoles are becoming very PC like with their additional functionalities like HDD, Internet browsers, installing an OS on the machine, install games and updates, patches, expansions, configuring the network settings, media server DLNA support etc....
This idea with cloud computing, ONLIVE and ful Digital game content may ironically do away with the physical console all together and if motion control like Microsoft's Project Natal we could theoretically go anywhere and visit a screen and play a game -no control pad, console or setting up is needed.
It was mentioned that Microsoft may have a fully digital only consoele 2 generations after this.
I phone is doing well with just digital content and Sony is "Trying" to do that with PSP GO.
Motion technology is starting to become a revelation as it will be featured on Hitachis TVs, Windows 7 and of course Xbox360.
Google OS
Itunes,
HD videos
Netflicks
alot of it is pointing to a "Non-Physical" interaction.
No disks, no controllers, no console, no HDD.....
IT'S CHEAPER.
think about it, Consoles = $199 - $399
PCs (for gaming) = $450-$999+
PCs are expensive!
With first release games, PC games are ussually less expensive. Can you claim console purchases on your income tax?
- i stink at gaming using a keyboard and mouse.
- By simply moving a console, I can game on any size screen in the house.

[QUOTE="MK-Professor"] Consoles play games with 20-30fps and PC with 60+ fpslowe0It's entirely up to the developer what frame rate a console game runs at. Quite a few run at 30, CoD4 & CoD:MW2 are 60 (not necessarily a very steady 60), and Gran Turismo 5 is a pretty solid 60 (check out the new demo, which only occasionally drops a frame or two a second). On the other hand, 60 FPS isn't guaranteed on a PC, either. Even on my current hardware (Q9400, 2xGTX 260, 8 GB RAM), Crysis doesn't run at 60 FPS. If you want 60 FPS out of a PC game, you'll be trading off some of the better graphics you point out in your list. Or, if you're lazy like me, you just let the developer decide what the best mix of features and frame rate are for a given title on a given piece of fixed hardware.
It's entirely up to the console capabilities (hardware) of what frame rate a console games runs at. Consoles run most of the games with 25fps some with 30fps and 1 of 100 games run at 60fps(games that run at 60fps usually use 1024x600 or are not very demanding in terms of graphics). Also a high-end pc is guarantee that will play most of the games at 100fps with 1920x1200.

PC has a ton of exclusive, nitche titles that won't appeal to mainstream audiences. Such as flight sims (Flight Sim X, DCS: Black Shark, IL-2,) grand strategy games (Civ IV, Total War, Europa Universals, Hearts of Iron,) shooters (Arma2, Stalker series,) not to mention RTS (Supreme Commander (on console, but it apparently sucks,) Company of Heroes, World in Conflict (not technically an RTS,) Dawn of War 2, Sins of a Solar Empire.) Few of those games are "low quality."

1) I don't want a PC in my media room sitting on the floor connected to Big TV so I can enjoy it in the same manner and comfort that I can currently enjoy my console gaming. That sort of thing was cool when I was in University and could have a PC sitting in the middle of my coffee table surrounded by beer cans was fine.
2) I use a PC at work, and really don't want to come home go to my home office and use it some more when I get home.
3) Gaming requirements are a moving target, nothing annoyed me more then building a PC in October 2007 with fairly high end part to then realize when Crysis came out that to play it at optimum settings I needed a better video card
4) I have replaced every componant save for the network card on my PC within the last two years at a cost that is higher then all three consoles at launch, for a gaming device I use less then even my Wii.
At the end of the day, PC gaming in theory is better because you can tune your experience but its not that much better that I will swap it for convinence.
My PS3 has free online, mods are rarely any good, my PC could never dream of running a game like Uncharted 2. I do not think I could get a PC for $299.99 that would run MW2 like my PS3. I would also miss out on games like GOW 3 or UNCHARTED 2 to name a couple. I really only ever truly enjoyed 2 PC titles WOW and Counter Strike Source. I can only speak for myself but those are my reasons.apparently free online, cheaper games, mods, better performance and graphics are not decisive factors in choosing Pc over the consoles.

The tower is big, I opted for one of the high towers because I run two video cards and wanted lots of fans and airflow.

Some people prefer PC gameing because:
- Consoles play games with 20-30fps and PC with 60+ fps.
- Consoles have 1280x720 and even sometimes sub HD resolutions (1024x600) but PC have 1920x1200 and 2560x1600.
- Also PC have far better graphics (lighting, textures, shaders, physics etc).
- Consoles have very limited Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic filtering and most of the times they don't have at all.
- With the consoles you cannot mod the game.
- Console gamers struggling with the controller in fps games.
- PC have much better online expiries than consoles. It is a fact that with consoles you are limited in multiplayer(lack of dedicated server, very limited number of players that can play together etc.)
- PC has free online gaming. Also pc games are cheaper than console games.
- There are tons of exclusives on PC gaming like starcraft 2, diablo 3, stalker, Crysis, the Witcher, Empire Total War, sims 3 etc too many too count.
- If you like RTS and MMORPGS then PC is your only choice.

The PC is a platform where you can tweak everything in your way and some people just don't have the patience to give it a shot and I agree. You cannot force something upon you and consoles are easier to maintain and THAT I also agree with.
In the end, it's all preferences. What's with all these threads that's got to do with preferences? Theres no fact behind WHICH game you like to play and HOW you like to play games. It's like saying I like my 360 over my PS3 because it has better games. That's subjective.

indeed, it's stupid. I know people who won't play a game unless they have a controller. that's actually one of the reasons why they invented the wii-mote, so everyone can play a game. now keyboard+mouse may be the best option in some games, but it's still the most complicated way to interact with a videogame, unless you play games that are only based on some keys and arrows. The tower is big, I opted for one of the high towers because I run two video cards and wanted lots of fans and airflow. My Media room is where my family watches TV & Movies, and where I have guests to do the same and the tower is an eyesore, a massive eyesore.cosmostein77Bolded destroys your argument.

Well, no auto aim here on K&M... wonder why...
Ease of use, entry cost, convenience, local co-op, comfort, screen size, game rentals, socializing, family entertainment, controller etc, plenty of reasons people prefer consoles. The PC fanatics here are the most arrogant, ignorant, whiny little nerds on the board. We all have PC's , what the heck do you think we are posting with? The fact is that we prefer consoles for playing games, get over it hermits. Not everyone that enjoys gaming is a basement dwelling social pariah.Elutheria
