Sony has only released 2 GOW Collections, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper & Team Ico. The other are done by 3rd Parties and most of those are on 360 as well. If people didn't play them on PS2 / Xbox and want to play them now let them.

What's the problem?

No one forces you to buy them... but plenty of people want them, and Sony provides the option. Supply and demand...

Eh only really care for Kingdom Hearts 1.5 which has the final mix stuff that haven't been overseas plus additional new stuff and changes so yeah. They're not bad, unless it not a good port like Silent Hill.

Yeah, I never understood why people are against backwards compatibility but buy these HD collections. The anti backwards compatibility crowd like to say things like "you don't buy a new console to play old games" or "I buy a new console to play new games" but behold! These same people have no problem re-buying the same games every generation just so they can play it on their console. No logic at all!!!

It's ok because that's not all that Sony does.

Some HD collections are worth it, some are not. Grow up and decide for yourself.

It's interesting though that this argument can be used to excuse Sony, but that cows will not accept it for Nintendo or Microsoft. Not calling you a cow, of course, just using your post to demonstrate a point.

PS3 has so many HD remakes it got its own Wikipedia article

Why don't more people despise this? I'm not just talking about Sony of course, there's plenty of companies doing it and lots of the collections are on the 360, there's plenty of suckage to go around. We were given consoles with limited to no backwards compatibility and ended up with this instead, what a shitty situation. I understand that people didn't play some of the games and it's convinient to have them all in one place but in my eyes this is definitely one pretty big drawback to a lack of backwards compatibility.

Do you hate this? If not, why not? Will this continue next gen? Thoughts...

bobbetybob

People don't hate it because if they don't like/want those games in HD, they won't buy them. Clearly, people are buying and supporting them for whatever reason (maybe they never played the original version, maybe they had it and eventually sold it and want it again, etc) so people keep making them.

Why would anyone despise something that literally has zero affect on them at all, has no real affect on the industry, and that people who want and support it can?

Fanboys will be fanboys, but me personally, I see nothing wrong with having an option to buy a HD collection, no matter who does it. Backwards compatibility like the one in the original PS3s is dead and most likely won't be coming back, so having HD collections for some older classics is a good thing...

I'm more for HD Collections then making crappy spin-offs or sequels. Nintendo would probably be better off doing more Zelda 3DS enhanced ports like OOT and Wind Waker HD then crappy New Super Mario Bros. games IMO. At least you know you're getting quality games and for alot of people they'll be new.

If we are using the demand and supply argument, then the continued sales of the NSMB games (including, yes, the 3DS game too) demonstrates that people do in fact want more NSMB. Of course if you don't want it, you can always ignore it. There are a lot of other games you could instead buy.

Mario All-Stars comes to mind...also A Link to the Past being ported to everything...Also Ocarina of Time on 3DS. Forgot about Twilight Princess being ported to the Wii until now. Wind Waker is coming to Wii U right?

Link to the Past was ported to everything? It had a GBA remake. Ocarina of Time I agree with. Twilight Princess was a multiplat. Wind Waker is a remake. Now look at Sony. How many times has each God of War game been re-released? Actually, considering each God of War game is the exact same, they've not only re-released it six times as six different games, but then proceeded to re-release each re-release like a hundred times. Nintendo never does that. Nintendo gives me new games. Thank you Nintendo.

First off, where in the hell did you get six times?   GOW I, II and the PSP games have only been released twice.  GOW III has only been released once and that was part of a collection.  Where in the hell did you get the six times thing from?  Even if we count the inital relases on their native systems, GOW I, II, and the PSP games have only been released three times.

Where did you get these numbers?

Well of course, anyone can ignore anything they don't like. If we're talking about quality though a remake of a great game should always overtake a lazy sequel. I would recommend someone buy GOW HD over GOW Ascension for example just like NSMB2 that game shouldn't have been made.

Side topic, is Ascension really that bad? Assuming it sticks to the formula and then iteratively improves it, it should actually be a fairly good game, shouldn't it?

Ascension doesn't stick to the formula however. it sticks in broken mechanics that destroy what was good about previous entries.

:? How does it deviate? It seems to be the definition of formulaic.

No they've released 3 God of War collections.

The first two had completely different games, and no smart consumer bought the Saga if they already owned the collections. It's like saying Halo CE has been released 6 times because of Halo 1,2,3,Anniversery, PC and Reach.

What? No its not.

They released 3 collections. What part of that is difficult to understand.

Call it a bundle all you want. Thats just another word for collection. Its a collection of god of war games, therefore there are 3 god of war collections.

I probably won't buy it. Pretty simple.

Well yeah, the solution is simple. I just find that most of these remasters are really lazy. Having them all on 1 disk for people who missed out is good though.

Don't get the complaints: 1) Can replay old favourites with better graphics, some games really don't age well and don't scale well to new HD TVs. 2) Allows newer gamers to catch up or play series you didn't have interest in originally (i never liked MGS until i played 4 but will probably get the new collection). Negatives: ??? I feel the same for remastered films and music (well mostly, i do like vinyl records) as long as they aren't changing the content like with Star Wars. It's not like it screws you over unlike day one DLC or always online systems or the other stuff people hate at the moment.

You mean the PS2 versions? I think the benefits of not having to make space for a PS2, and not having to play PS2 games on an HDTV through composite, are worth a bit more money.

Yeah I was referring to the PS2 ones.  I do see the benefits of having all of the games in one disk and better graphics but if I could get them for cheaper and I already have said system to play the games then it doesn't really matter to me.

The concept of hd remakes was really started by fans. If anyone is to blame its the people buying the games. But really, they are usually good deals. Multiple games for $40? Heck, Sony is even grouping ps3 games into collections and offering reduced costs. I saw the Killzone collection, and the sly collection btw, for just under $30 on amazon not too long ago.

What's the problem?

No one forces you to buy them... but plenty of people want them, and Sony provides the option. Supply and demand...

Holy **** someone with logic, give this man a cookie. Also to add to that, not everyone still has a PS2 (wish I did) or a PSP.

most of those collections are fan requested and if people weren't wanting them they wouldn't be made. I've never played any hd remakes in my life. And hehehe nintendo would do this too if their hardware wasn't only barely superior to the ones of the previous gen.

People will buy it. They buy it because they like it. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Yeah, the whole "Deal With It" mentality is getting somewhat old but, really, what can you do? Write a sternly strong worded letter to SONY? Just don't buy it, it'll save you all the trouble in the end. Also if you're using this as a way of exposing hypocrisy among cows for them bashing rehashes and whatnot; give it up. Fanboys will be fanboys and System Wars is like the 1% really in the whole wide world of gaming that it doesn't matter if like 10 people here are hypocrites given the, like, 10 million other fans out there.

I don't mind HD collections, but it was a bit fishy when one week Sony announced dropping BC on the PS3, and the next week began announcing HD re-releases.

Sony goes overboard with them far more than any other company it seems.

I don't see the point in them if you can already play the games on said system, such as Super Mario All-Stars for Wii when you can already download the games from the VC.  I also don't care for HD collections when you can already buy the games separately for cheaper anyway like Devil May Cry.

The kind of collections I would like to see more of are ones similar to the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, where it is cheaper to buy the collection than the games separately and not have to get all of the systems to play the games.

Never got to play Ico so I was able to do that. AAAAAAAND: I replayed Shadow of the Colossus on GLORIOUS high definition. Just beautiful. *tear* I'm all for these remakes. Waiting for them to finally announce an HD collection of Socom 1-3 with online play. That's my tens of thousands of other people's dream.

There's a difference there. Sony doesn't depend on HD Collections as system sellers. Nintendo does, and in a way like it's throwing a bone to fans. No games to play for months? No matter. We'll give you Wind Waker HD. And suddenly, all is forgiven.

That doesn't happen on any other console.
