This is all simply a matter of, when you are on top and you act badly, people will not acknowledge you for anything even if you deserve it. Why heap more praise on someone who is arrogant? I hear a lot of whining from cows these days, but damn people are quick to forget the pre PS3 launch bravado that the cows had on these boards. And after that e3 2005 press conference with all of the CGI.....

Like I said, people have short memories..Or it could be that you weren't here. Not that that matters, the damage has been done.

No sane person will say that HD formats won't benefit gaming.  That's indisputable.  What can be disputed is whether or not it's necessary.  Judging from the respective successes of the Wii and 360, I'd say not, not yet anyway.

ps3 scaler hasn't been implemented yetmmirza23

Does this mean that there will be a scaler implemented in the future? I hope this is the case, because I want to get a PS3 later this year for Ratchet.

sony stated they would add a firmware update to upscale dvd's and games eventually but i take everything sony says with a grain of salt, they introduced sdk kits earlier this year so developers had access to the horizontal scaler, why they didnt let them use both horizontal and vertical is beyond me, so much secrecy behind this scaler leads me to believe it's really not that good.

Blu-ray: "It's a format that force on consumers. Sony is ripping us off"

Well you do have to agree that blue ray was and still is forced upon anyone who buys the PS3....they should have at least waited for it to be a success then offered it as an add on for those who wanted it, otherwise if blue ray fails then your 600$ goes down the drain with it because it probably would lack massive support. Choices are the way to go.

Other than that I agree with the rest of your post.

BrutonNYC

Come back to me in 5-6 years when DVD is obsolete, HD-DVD is out of the market and Blu-ray is the only format. Then we can discuss how bad of a move it was for sony to implement blu ray

Holographic storage(HVD) is going to dominate both.  BD pales in comparison on every front.

because a lot of people are at the end of their Sony rope? I used to love them -- now I actually smile whenever I read something terrible about them.

Sony made their bed, now they have to sleep in it -- while all of us stuff bricks in to socks patiently waiting until they fall asleep.

I think so, but it's a bit of shallow victory considering 3/4 of potential customers aren't even in the market for an HD format yet.

Well necessary is to strong of a word imo, everything inside the ps3 and the xbox isn´t necessary if u look at the success of the wii, that´s not the point, it´s good for games it´s good for me, blu ray was one of the major reasons I decided to get the ps3.

[QUOTE="Kestastrophe"]You brings up some decent points TC. I too think that Sony is under alot of scrutiny, however I think alot of it is a result of their arrogance towards the media, its competitors, and the consumer. Kestastrophe

The problem there is denial. You(as a general term) is denying the good idea Sony brought to the table just because they're arrogant of the way the present it. Wanting a good image is for the people who have image problems themselves. Their not here to impress you with a coke and a smile. They're here to give you the best for gaming.

The problem is that no one really knows if the PS3 was a good idea or not, at this point in time. It is having moderate success right now, but there really hasen't been any software out for the system that can justify the steep price. If Sony were less arrogant, the meida might have given them a break with the PS3.

So we should let the media decide what's good and what's not?

I personally didn't need the media to tell me anything.  Most of the outlandish stuff Sony suits were spouting pre-launch spoke for itself.

First I'll say I appreciate the credit you did give to Xbox 360. Though again you emphasised just the shooters in their game library when you know there's more than that - I guess I'll still have to work on that with you ;)

Now to play devils advocate on the issue of what credit Sony should get, I've seen plenty of time when sonyfans have tried to take credit from another platform and give it to Sony. I can't count how many times I've seen people say "if it wasn't for Sony, we'd still be playing with cartridges today". No, Sega was already implementing that technology, 1st as an add-on but you know they were already going in the direction of making that the primary media. It was 3DO that was 1st to deliver a true CD based console. Some sonyfans had insisted that Sony brought 3D to the gamers. Again, it was 3DO that came 1st with that, actually Nintendo if you want to dig back deeper to the SNES with the FX chip.

Sony had built upon on the foundation of what came before them, but what I feel they get credit for is refining the technology (3D and CD as a game media) and marketing it to the masses far more successfully than their predecessors. They did a stupendous job with the first Playstation and carried on that success to the PS2. What is today the average age of gamers being 30 can greatly be contributed to PS1/2.

Innovation comes from who ever FIRST brings something never before seen. Nintendo was at the forefront of controller evolution with shoulder buttons, rumble and the analog thumb stick, all that we saw in the PS1 controller. But again, they took that foundation and refined it. When it comes to controllers Sony does get the innovation credit for hand grips. That simple little addition added a depth of comfort for keeping a hold on our input devices.

So yes, I would have to say Sony copies and that isn't bad, (especially because they refine the innovations that later others want to follow suit with) since once an idea is out there EVERYBODY wants to implement it. I just get aggravated by the sonyfans who deny where alot of the ideas TRULY came from. I DO agree that credit should be given where it's due.

No we should not, and in no way did I imply that in my post.

But people do think it's ok to follow the media for the slander of Sony. If they took what they have in hand or in person about a product, then the media wouldn't be such a big deal; however, in real world media does influence the views of the majority (subliminal advertise). I've been gaming for a long time, and I personal feel that PS3 has the stuff to be a great system, if not the best this gen. The arguments I presented to you in my OP were statements that clearly shows bias, and irrational thinking. To sum it up, What Sony is offering in the PS3 is not the real problem; the problem is the image that Sony is presenting to people. Haters will eat off this. While smart buyers will look pass the company "image" and focus on the product and the strategy of the future for it.

In a perfect world, yes.  But even if we imagine a perfect world for the sake of argument, would it not still be the greater responsibility of the company (if it wants to make money, at least) to make a genuine effort to appeal to its customers?  To me this was one of the biggest mistakes Sony made with the PS3, a mistake that may very well take this whole generation to correct.

Sony became arrogant and underestimated the competition they made stupid comments like

"The next generation doesn't begin till we say it does" Huh? lol I own a Ps3 but all the media flack their

getting right now is their own doing. One thing they love to do is hype 20 different things and then only deliver

on one of them. With all that being said I love them I've had some great experiences on my Ps2 and have already

had some great ones on Ps3.

P.S. Microsoft has gotten flack for many different things ( Ring of death ) but the Sony Backlash overshadowed the things

they did wrong.

Quite right, the problem with respect is that I did not lose respect for sony because one day I woke up and said "today I will have no respect for Sony". They earned my disrespect.

Now that being said there is no way I will want to miss out on some sony titles and I hope that by late 2008 they will have given me enough reasons to buy one.

I mean everything Sony does with PS3 it's always discredited and slander with bias talk.

Blu-ray: "It's a format that force on consumers. Sony is ripping us off"

Well most of use don't want to pay an extra $200 for a media format

Multi-media funtions: "I just want a gaming machine. If I wanted all the other stuff I'll buy them (optional)"

I don't see people compalining

PS Network: "It's not as good as XBL. Why should I pay $600 for a lower version online service?"

Why should you pay for either when PC is superior and free?

RPGs: "Now that games like Blue Dragon and Lost Odessey coming to the 360, PS no longer have the great RPGs."

PS3 has only 2 worth it RPG's, FFXIII and White Night Story. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyessy, and Mass Effect and Fable 2 covers both J and W RPG gamers needs. Though if you're a real JRPG fan you would've already brought a DS or PSP.

PS Home: "It's a Second life rip-off. No one cares about playing Barbie and Doll house on a console"

I don't see why people should be complaining either.

PS Games: "They only release rehashed games that are played out and should be retired from the Sony library."

I see what you mean.

Sony: "All they do is copy ideas from other companies. They're not innovative at all. Then, have the nerve to charge High Price for it."

But they haven't innovated at all and ae chargine high prices

It's seems no matter what Sony does, it's not good enough. I say, Sony has no choice but to become arrogant to the haters, and just worry about the people who purchase their products.

However, as much as I dislike Microsoft as a console gaming company, we give credit to them without bashing out everything.

Microsoft: Has the best shooters on a console.

Microsoft: XBL is the best online service you can get on a console at the moment.

Microsoft: Has great customer service when it comes to their faulty hardware issue. Lifetime warranty is very nice.

Just something to think about, when the next time you bash systems fanboys...

You have to remember that a lot of people here already own a 360 or Wii. This is probably the biggest reason that people don't like things to do with the PS3, since there is always the strong possibility the console will sell really well, overtake 360 and Wii eventually and dev support will once again be focused on a Sony system.

Most consumers out there are still playing their PS2.

The only thing I really dislike about the PS3 atm is its price. For me it has the best lineup and I know consumers won't ignore the standout games later this year, and in 2008 so I'm confident when I get a PS3 that it's going to be a great, long lasting system.
