At this point in gaming history we're not really arguing about which platform is the best.

We're arguing about which one sucks the least, and which company will use the most vaseline when they bend us over.

What PC gamers don't understand yet is their main enemy is the same company that made their OS.

Just like Playstation gamers don't understand that online won't be "free" forever.

And I think 360 and Ninty gamers just enjoy getting screwed, they think it's romantic.

vtoshkatur

While I agree how today all platforms including PC have a good share of problems,rip-offs and crap,as a PC gamer,I don't understand what you mean by MS destroying PC gaming.Could you clarify what are you thinking exactly?

I don't know what he means by this either. If they didn't want you to game on Window's based systems why are they adding Xbox 360 compatibliity with Window's 8?

OR XBL onn Windows 8 too :P

Yeah not too sure what he meant by that either. Really the only thing Microsoft is guilty of doing is not supporting PC gaming much at all. So we miss out on the yearly release of Halo, Gears of War, and Forza. Even if I didn't have an Xbox 360, I wouldn't consider that a terrible loss.

But I'm going to decline to argue with him on that point. The post he made right before that is probably the first time I found myself agreeing with him, and I don't want to ruin that moment.

Today, this is the third time I ended up agreeing with him on something,so yeah, special moments :P

And yeah,MS doesn't destroy PC gaming in any way, only has mostly abandoned it,and I have no problems with that, most Xbox360 exclusives I personally consider unappealing(only one I wanted was Alan Wake, but now its getting a PC port...).Also,I like my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit,a great OS :)

I'm trying. I made the mistake of recently purchasing a AMD 5640 HD 1gb video card, which I found out later on , after the fact, that those cards aren't really built for gaming. I was looking for a good card that I don't have to replace the power supply with, which will run games at a decent, to medium settings. Well these 5450 cards have trouble running almost anything. I can run The Killing Floor, but games like the Witcher 2 run horribly. So I plan on getting the 6450 and replacing the power supply, then maybe I can finally game on a pc.

Get a 5770

Power supply is the first thing you need to buy for PC gaming. Remember that.

Don't try to skimp on the PSU and think you'll use some "HTPC" card because they're garbage and won't run hardly anything acceptably.

Ok. Thanks. I plan on buying one or two this weekend. I have a Compaq Presario, which I upgraded to 4gb ram, and it does have a dual core AMD processor, so I'm hoping it can run the games at medium settings when I install a good video card. Not the best cpu, but It's run good for me so far, and not to mention my twin sons enjoy gaming on PCs more than on the 360, or PS3.I'm trying to upgrade both the Compaq and HP Slimline s3200n. Not killer machines by far but I'm hoping they will work. Is it tough to install those power supplies? Do I have to mess with the Bios settings?

Nope. Just remove the old power supply and install the new one. Just keep note of which cables are being used and where they go, and you shouldn't have any trouble.

PSU's are not tough to install, but it's a gamble working on name brands, because you don't really know what parts you're working with, it's all mystery meat.

In the future what you should do is just use a laptop for research and strip down the old hardware, look up each part and read its manual.

If the cases are standard size (ATX, mini ATX, micro ATX) you can use them.

Then you just start putting in parts, either new parts that you order or parts from the old system.

Using the laptop and Tom's Hardware and websites to guide you, keep building until you have a complete system that works.

Keep the manuals and specs, tape em to the side of the box or something, so you can look up what you have for upgrades.

1.Plug in a controller if they don't suit your gaming habbits

2.Mods are fully optional, while obviously not every one is good, there are many who add to or improve the experience, but as I said, they're optional...

3.Number of cheaters is debatable, there are more than enough good servers with good anti-cheat protections by server admins, etc in PC games,I don't play online often, but I never noticed any serious problem with cheaters...

4.Enjoy SW:TOR :)

Because of things like this:

Steam Hang

Plus this recent hardware quirk I just discovered - a PCIe expansion card (USB V3.0 card) causing problems with sounds (stuttering and distortion) - only solution was to remove the said expansion card.rasengan2552

a network error ?

1. Steam is not the only PC gaming network, its the best but not the only one you can buy game related stuff off other networks like Gametap or Origin.

2. PC games don't have to be launched off Steam.

3. PSN and XBL have their FAIR shares of network errors.

I doubt it. I was already logged on to the Steam network when that message appeared (one instance when it happened was when I tried to close the Screenshot Upload window, and it hanged instead). Never had any problems with PSN so far. In fact around half my PS3 games were bought off the PSN Store, but whaterver case, I've had ZERO problems running any of them (disc version or download).

[QUOTE="Stalkerfieldsis"][QUOTE="AppleJudgement"]Pc gaming is too expensive, if I want a PC I might as well go for the top of the end graphics instead of just getting slightly better than consoles. That makes no sense with the Wii U coming out to be honest.rasengan2552
Slightly better? My $700 GTX 470 rig runs BF3 on MAX and Crysis 2 with graphics mods. A normal console gamer paid $400 for a console and 4-$500 for a separate non-gaming computer, and spend at least $10 more per game. Your point is?

Its a shame the ignorant console gamers will never be able to experience the BF3 jet level on PC. Its been said to be one of the most jaw dropping levels in gaming history.

That level was absolutely miserable. I still haven't figured out why I can't beat it on PC, even though I breezed through it on PS3.

Cool.I hope to do this within the next week. I'm excited! I will probably invest in a good , quad-core PC sometime next year, but for now I want to get something that can run my son's games @ a medium setting. He can't even run Minecraft right now for crying out loud!! Well run it at a stable frame rate when there is a lot of things going on within the environment. Getting the power supply doesn't seem that expensive, I've found new 300watt ones for 50-60, but I probably will spend close to $100 on the video card. Any recommendations on a good video card for what I'm working with? AMD dual core(2.4ghz), 4gb ram. I think Lazysloth recommended a 5770.

HP Slimline s3200n look like the following pictures...

The double slot graphics card would be a problem with the above PC i.e. my Radeon HD 5770 is a dual slot graphics card. the user has to remove the 56k modem panel.

Also, power supply doesn't seems to be standard ATX sized box....

Single slot Radeon HD 5770 from XFX...

Agreed, on any platform that level has horrid gameplay, on PC it looks pretty, but us PC Gamer's aren't only caring about graphics as some stereotypes may lead you to believe.

So I would need to go with the single slot version for the HP Slimline? How to I order the difference? When I go to Newegg do I put in Radeon HD 5770 single slot? I think it doesn't matter for the Compaq, which also might not matter for the HP, seeing as how I removed the modem anyways, but I just want to make sure it will fit. Thanks for the response!

Yeah, that's the part I'm really worried about, the power supply switch. I've found a couple, but they do seem rather large.

Y'know, bringing it up in this thread reminded of me of a theory I had. I was initially stuck in the campaign because of a bug in the release version having to do with prompts not displaying on Nvidia Surround setups. And so I went back, turned off Surround, and what do you know, locking on works properly now and I was able to knock it out on the first try. I went ahead and turned Surround back on and reloaded the mission, and once again, missile locking is broken.

It's a bug. Which, of course, brings us to...

Your sig lists a single monitor and a single GPU. So unless your sig is out of date, you tested it, but not using the reproduction steps I listed above? What would be the point of that?

I still play games on my computer.Well, the ones it can still run.

This and the fact that there are more games that I want to play on the consoles.
