It is a very nice blog post. (Not a hermit.)I love how all the hermits just say "nice blog post" or talk about things that have nothing to do with the OP. Fact is all those are valid reasons people don't play on PC. You guys are always asking why. There's your answers.

To be fair, it is far more oriented toward being a blog. That's just the way it is. It started a debate, but it is largely blog material (nothing wrong with that).

Odd. I've seen countless threads explaining just how affordable PC can be. In fact, i've seen people specifically post sub-$300 builds to make the point.

not true, the TC said a decent gaming rig costs 2-3 times more then a console? The Ps3 cost 599 USD at launch, if I had built a PC from scratch with a 1800$ budget, I would have a super PC in 2006 and 5 years later i'd still have a high end PC
he also mentioned "tons" of games that don't come out on PC like fighting games, now maybe it's just me. but last time I checked both the PS3 and 360 are very lacking on the fighting game department
not to mention there's tons of games on the PC that don't come out on consoles
and how exactly does playing PC games on an HD TV defeat it's purpose?
and speaking of which, why is it ok to come home after a day's work and play console games on an HD TV but no PC games on an HD TV?
EDIT: Oh and local multiplayer? how many games this gen still have that? last time I checked there's fewer and fewer

OMG for the 3rd time, you can get a PS3 on sale for $200 now a days. And even at launch you could get a PS3 at 500 and a 360 at 300.Yes and there are tons of games that come out for 360/PS3 (exclusives and multiplat) that don't come out for PC
Again, I have never met in real life a pc gamer who plays on a HDTV.
Madden? Tekken? Mortal Kombat? Wii Bowling? Gears of War? NBA 2k? MLB The Show? Etc Etc Etc

why do people only consider US prices? in many countries consoles are extremely expensive, here in Australia the PS3 is still $350-450 (despite the AUD being stronger than the USD, though I suppose on the AUD-JPY pair matters for ps3), and console games regularly break $100. It's significantly cheaper in many parts of the world to just get a PC and make use of places on the internet where prices aren't artificially inflated. for example: I got SR3 for $20.00 off greenman gaming. If I had a console I'd easily be paying 400% that price, if not more[QUOTE="NirdBerd"]

Not really. 1. Really? You playing Forza 4 on PC? Gears 3? Uncharted 3? Super Mario Galaxy?
2-5) Bet you aren't playing Batman MAXED.
6. OK same RES, Computer monitors still have a waaaay faster refresh rate.
7. I have 3 friends that get together in the same room and play MMORPGs together. For hours. And it's sad.
Ginosaji
1) You're right. We aren't playing those games. And in a year or two, we won't be playing Forza 5, Gears 4, and Uncharted 4 on our PCs either. But that's not to say I won't still have more than enough games to play on my PC.
2-5) So what if he's not running it MAXED? Neither are you, if you're playing on a console. The only difference is he has the *option* to upgrade and increase the video settings, whereas you have no say in the matter.
6) No... no they don't. The *only* guaranteed difference between a monitor and an HDTV is the HDTV has a built-in TV tuner. This is an example of people imagining distinctions where they don't actually exist. Another one that may surprise you: consoles are just PCs running task-specific operating systems.
7) I'm confused. Didn't you just claim to be a fan of same-room multiplayer in the very first post? How is playing Halo with 3 friends in the same room any different than playing an MMORPG with 3 friends in the same room?
1) Right so there is a ton of AAA games that are not on PC and on console. I prefer the genre's the consoles get more love for (fighting, sports, racing, platformng) then the pc (sim, start, mmo)2-5) Right, but I'm not playing a gimped 20 FPS game either.
6) true, but most monitors have a way fast refresh rate then hdtvs. That just is what it is. And there are higher res monitors then hdtv too.
7.) the differance is vast. But people sitting there wasting their lives playing hours and days and years (game time) on an MMO is a lot differant then some people playing a couple hours of Tekken or something.

I'll grant it to you, even though that just begs the question as to what you've been gaming on for 4-5 years while you waited for the prices to drop to that level.
The fact of the matter is a game console is *not* a replacement for a PC. It's purchased in addition to a PC. It's just a matter if you want to spend the money on a better PC, or a separate game console. (Or both, in my case, as I own a gaming PC, X360, and a PS3.)
How much did your current PC cost you? Add that to the cost of a single game console, and you'd likely have a budget that would have allowed you to pick up a better PC that functions as *both* your PC and your game console.
Even if you go by launch numbers 300 or 500 compaired to ?? for a decent gaming pc that would be good for only a couple years before it needed upgrade or ?? for a good one that you could get 5-6 years out of. We are going into 2012 and this console gen is still strong.[QUOTE="NirdBerd"]Did you really expect any other outcome? :(I love how OP gave legitimate, sensible reasons but most of the hermits are fighting back.

The majority of PC gamescan run a computer that will cost you around $300

- If you get a cheap gaming PC like you are saying (300-500) you certainly would have to upgrade. Look at the video cards that were around at 360's launch. Now if you got a PC that was 300 in '05 it's not running games well in '09 let alone '12
You don't need a 1440p screen to play games

also, playing games with real friends? I wasn't aware my friends were imaginary when we were all playing jamestown on 4 player local co-op on my PC

Consoles hook up to TVs because they are incapable of taking advantage of high rez moniters.Spartan070can't speak for everyone here, but when playing games like jamestown or super meatboy I just prefer the TV and my 360 controller

you are missing the point. I am saying playing games with real life friends is better on a console. Thats all. And you will NEVER have a $300 "gaming" computer at the launch of a $300 console that will last the entire generation with out upgrades.
ohthemanatee
and consoles at launch cost $300? last time I checked my old 20GB Xbox 360 was bought in 2007 for 350 euro
in fact, even today the cheapest you can buy a 360 is for 200
with no hardrive, no kinect, no games AND nearing the end of it's lifespan
oh and let's not forget that PC games are cheaper
also, playing games with real friends? I wasn't aware my friends were imaginary when we were all playing jamestown on 4 player local co-op on my PC
Xbox was 300 and 400 back in '05 at launch. PS3 was 500 and 600 in '06.Please Log In to post.
