I gladly pay my 5 bucks a month, also known as 16 cents a day. As a matter of fact, by bending over and picking up change throughout the month, it basically pays for itself! But not only that. The real benefit of my $5 a month is the fact that everyone else I play with is paying 5 bucks a month. I am one of 15-20 MILLION people paying that fee. That is over $1B a year in extra revenue for Microsoft and through the overall better service of XBL, I along with every other 360 online gamer, most definitely see my return.

1 billion dollars for P2P servers . PC gaming gets free dedicated servers, free mods, free themes, free downloadable content, even free games at times. We get loads of ways to communicate in game. All this for $0, and Its MUCH better than XBL. Seriously M$ justfound a way to make 100% profit right out of your pocket.

Yes except that lately we've not been seeing return, MS is either going to announce an absolute ton of new games at E3 or a new console.

Everyone breaks the fee down to smaller numbers to make it seem like it's no big deal. Why doesn't anyone show the big numbers? I'll do it.

If you bought a launch 360 and you've been paying that $5 a month till now, guess how much it's really cost you?

$240. Add that to your 360's cost and you've paied over $600 for your 360. Just as much as a launch PS3, where are you getting you return?

I play online with friends for free and it's always been that way for the last 3 years on PSN. And it cost me $100 less than you. And the more you keep paying "$5/ per month" the more I save.

I only pay cause I have to in order to use it to its full capacity. But if paying was optional... I certainly wouldn't. So I wouldn't say that I gladly pay for it. But I won't say I hate paying for it either. Still worth it imo.

I have gained far more than 240 dollars of utitily from paying for XBL, i dont understand why people who dont pay care. Its like going to someone who buys a 150 dollar shirt and saying well i payed 5 dollars for mine and 'I' think there pretty much the same when in reality there probably not.

can you explain how you gained 240 instead of lost 240 by paying for xbl? Why do we care? because you're making an elitist sounding thread like this and people don't like attitudes like this. Especially when what you're paying for is being done elsewhere for free.

People need to get it right, Xbox live is either a one time price of 49.99 for a whole year OR you can pay 7.99 for a month which is 96 dollars a year. So NO it's not 5 bucks a month you can't pay the 49.99 dollars in installments, with that logic I can make anything sound cheap, "Hey why did everyone complain about the PS3 being expensive at $600 dollars, that's only 50 bucks a months or roughly 12 dollars a week, just skip that McDonald run once a week and bam, you have a 600 dollar PS3".

Yes but that's what offered to the vast majority. I am sure there are sales or other third party stores but I can't say PS3 games ONLY cost 30 dollars because I wait for them to hit the bargain bin (Which I don't, lol). In the end its either the one time fee or the monthly 7.99 that almost doubles the amount of Live for the year.

You obviously dont understand economics or you wouldn't be asking such a dumb question, if people value XBL at 40 dollars a year and MS is willing to sell it at that price, what is wrong with this, why do those who dont value at that price worried? XBL is not done anywhere else for free if it is please show me, the whole framework and architecture used is only done their. Yes there exist other products like PSN and wii online which are both free but most likely very few would value them at 40 dollars a year, sony and Nintendo dont have that luxury of being able to charge at that price.

I would love a system where you pay gold to dl demos and get that kind of content, yet could still play online with a silver account. I get that xbl has all these features, but in the end, I dont chat much while playing, I never cross chat, I maybe download 1 demo a year and about a double that number in arcade games.

.

I am basically (for me) just paying to play online. Given that I already have to pay for my internet connection (among three people but still) this seems like a steal given the competitions offerings....

That is over $1B a year in extra revenue for Microsoft and through the overall better service of XBL, I along with every other 360 online gamer, most definitely see my return.

shadow8585

I couldn't bare to read the entire thread, you said something about enjoying to bend over for change or something like that.

I still don't understand why someone would "enjoy" paying for something that should be free. I already pay my isp, why should I have to pay for online gaming? I don't care whether its $5 or $50 a year, I don't "enjoy" giving away free money unless its to the needy and last I checked Micro$oft isn't needy they're greedy.

Well you go ahead and pay more for XBL ove the console's lifetime ($300 for 6 years ) than you actually payed for the console. Go right ahead.

Oh, yeah it is completely awsome you and the 20 million other users are giving one of the planets richest corporations 1 billion dollars extra a year, that is great.

I don't mind paying, but would obviously prefer if it we're free. But it definitley is a better service than PSN.

RAGINGxPONY

You may think that way, but others disagree. I can play my multiplats that you have also and play them for free with the same performance in the servers, saving myself some money in the long run. No server is perfect, not even your XBL, they have had horrible issues with many games just like the PS3 had and is definitely not worth $50 a year. I'm not a fan of the other dumb features on either console besides just hooking up on line with friends and playing the game for free. I let my XBL expire because to me it's a waste of money and only has minimal difference then the PSN which is free.

Another one of these. I get it there are those who like to pay for live fine, but do you have to make a thread about it everytime. Also you dont pay 5 bucks a month the offcial price is 50 bucks upfront. I agree live is better but only by a bit not leaps and bounds. Thats why I stoped paying for it.

i dont mind paying for online play, but ever since i got rid of my 360 im not gonna lie, its been a breath of fresh air to not worry about fees for online play, seeing as how im not that big on playing online to begin with

If you are worrying about a $50 yearly fee maybe gaming isn't the appropriate hobby for you.

You know how stupid that sounds? If you're already paying for the system and the game why should you have to pay to play too? Thanks to MS for starting this stupid trend of charging to play every game online.

The best part is that not only have MS convinced people to pay money for it but they're HAPPY to pay for it

I have gained far more than 240 dollars of utitily from paying for XBL, i dont understand why people who dont pay care. Its like going to someone who buys a 150 dollar shirt and saying well i payed 5 dollars for mine and 'I' think there pretty much the same when in reality there probably not.

What if in reality the shirts were "pretty much the same"?

I'd think the guy who payed $150 would be feeling mighty stupid :P

Im burnt out playing online. Its pretty boring to me these days. PLUS I got tired of paying for something only to not be happy with the total experience. MS how about giving your customers something free for once? A movie, a theme, a gamer pic "that people actually want". Maybe a free game download or some map packs for older games to bring new life back into them...ANYTHING!

Being an original XBOX LIVE customer from 2002 I think I deserve something? PLUS having been through 5 360s since launch..Heaven forbid you GIVE US SOMETHING USEFULL!!..

ok, im done.

Javy03

Wow... my ps3 was cheap!!! $12 a week. I pay more for coffee each week. Dang.. got to cut down on the coffee....:(

can you explain how you gained 240 instead of lost 240 by paying for xbl? Why do we care? because you're making an elitist sounding thread like this and people don't like attitudes like this. Especially when what you're paying for is being done elsewhere for free.

Simple. Because they're selling you something that is free elsewhere. Therefore, it's your loss and their gain. The meat of an online service is to get gamers together to play a game. MS charges you for that before you get those bells and whistles. How anyone puts a value on that should be the real question.
