Why is everyone upset with L4D2

Valve making a quick cash-off by releasing a sequel with barely noticable improvements than the first.

That and L4D 1 won't be getting as much support now.

Valve isn't doing this out of desperation of a tough economy and DLC is a very profitable venture. L4D (1) should have been like their other games where they build a platform of a community with lots of patches and DLC. DLC they could make plenty of mirco transaction profit from. They are making L4D2 a year after the first one. That is way too soon.

The first L4D was short and lacked a lot of content. It wasn't worth $60.

Now Valve is announcing a sequel to it with extra content that should have been in the original game. Sorry Valve, but I'm not spending another $60 on a shallow game.

I love how everyone complains about paying for something that could be done as a mod. Well if its that easy THAN MAKE IT. Im waiting. You can post your work at moddb. Looking forward to seeing how much more you know about making games than Valve.

It's not fair. We don't even know what they will put in to L4D2 and we already judge them.

In my opinion its kinda lame to bash on L4D2. Almost every game does this. Add in little to no new stuff. Almost every shooter does it. Only a new story mode, new modes, new weapons, new maps.

And vavle is doing Melee weapons (thats new gameplay, alot of sequels have no new gameplay element) A new zombie, new mode, new weapons, new maps.

So why is everyone complaining?!?!

Because hermits are really stupid sometimes. One change.. just one change valve has ever made after years of excellence and they QQ through the roof and want to boycott valve products. Some are even doing the same with SC2 because it's 3 campaigns even though each campaign is going to be 30 missions long and non-linear. In short ... there isn't much pleasing people, I'll still get it when it's on sale like I did with the first.

They've already confirmed more updates - including the SDK - for L4D1.

Not true at all. Only sports games do stuff like that. Sequals do add in the stuff you list but it's to a much bigger extent than what they're doing with L4D2.

Why the hell did you pay 50$ 2 months ago when it's been on sale as low as 25 off and on since release? That sounds like a case of dumb ass on your part.

So YOU say it should be DLC? I say Valve knows better then you as to what the game should entail to maximize itself AND thier profits. I doubt Valve should or would look to "Angry Fork" for business decisions.

If I was a fan of any of those series I'd be pretty disappointed in rushed yearly releases like the ones those get all the time. Besides online petitions aren't something new either, it's not like this is the first game to get this kind of response from fans.

I think the reason ppl are doing it about L4D is because valve listens. Ppl complained enough about the new weapon unlock system in TF2 that they had to add the milestones back again which was pretty nice. I'm not saying we should all now hate valve for doing this or anything but maybe the whole boycott thing will indeed show them more about what we actually want instead of this sequel.

No one is saying anything about having Fallout 3 like DLC, just more campaigns and weapons and do you even know how much FO3 dlc is anyways? It clearly gives you content for less unlike a full new game that's lacking in content.

Because they still haven't told us ANYTHING about the next EXPANSION for HL2 18 months after Ep2 yet L4D 2 will be coming out just 12 months after the first, and it's a full game...

You're right. If this boycott succeeds at driving off a large number of buyers (not that it could have that much of an effect, since the game will sell at least a million copies anyway), the community will be split, and both games will suffer for it. :|

The backlash is kinda funny. People paid $60 for a multiplayer only game (single player that's a bots only version of multiplayer isn't legit singleplayer imo) that only had 4 maps. L4D2 has 5 maps so it should seem like a better value. Valve does a funny balancing act. They release one full price game that's like 5 games in one, then they balance it by releasing one full price game that less than half a full game.

Mods could easily achieve the level of polish that L4D has? Voice acting? Weapon ballance? Effective use of lighting to create atmosphere?

Did you ever play the design commentary? You will find that L4D is one of the most well made games to date when you really take a step back and observe.

I reply to that with Black Mesa Source, a remake of Half-Life using the Source engine made by a devoted mod team. Valve fans are crazy modders. Left 4 Dead actually started out as a mod soo......

Valve promised continuous support to L4D1 and all they did was relase 1 new mode, 1 map for the new mode, and what should've been unlocked in versus mode from day 1. now they go out and announce L4D2 already??? and its due this year?????
