Why is it always Xbox vs PS3?

Why does PC or Wii get ignored? Threads start about exclusives etc, but the TC talks about his own platform xbox or PS3. Then regards between xbox or PS3 and completely ignoring the fact PC and Wii have exclusives also... Not just exclusives though it involves lots of topics that could involve all platforms yet ends up being only Xbox vs PS3.

Ill also add its funny because its PC and Wii that seperate themselves with genres and style of games. While Xbox and PS3 do the same thing and have the same sort of games all the time.

Because Wii isn't real console and PC is PC. That's the reason. (Not my opinion though.)

To be honest, the Wii is left out very often because it's almost in a different category. When you look at its hardware, it can't even come close to competing with the Xbox 360 or PS3. It's slightly more powerful than the GameCube, with the motion control addition which is what made it so successful. Now Nintendo is planning to unveil their next console in 2012, several years before the other two (Sony & Microsoft have both said they won't be releasing the next-gen consoles until around 2015). Based on rumors, it seems like this console will be more in line with Sony & Microsoft's current-gen hardware (if a bit superior) than the Wii was. To put it simply, in terms of hardware, Wii is not a current gen console. It's a relic from the Xbox/PS2/GC days, with the added motion control novelty which made it EXTREMELY popular with all demographics, which is what Nintendo was going for. It was as if Nintendo wanted a re-do of the GameCube, which only sold around 20 million units (compare to 80 million for the Wii). Now that the Wii's hardware and software sales have plummeted (non-gamer demographics will only buy so many games), they're finally coming into the current-gen, as far as hardware goes. But they'll fall behind again when Sony & Microsoft release their new consoles in a couple of years.

As for PC, it's a different platform. Different enough that maybe people don't think it's fair to compare them. After all, I can't order a better processor for my 360 and install it. People still have PC vs Console wars, but that argument is so old and tired, what's the point anymore?

I believe it's because the Wii is a last gen console, and the pc is a highly expensive system. Of course pc gamers don't want to feel left behind, so they are nosy and jump into every discussion there is in System Wars.

Because Cows and Lemmings give crap to the Wii at every opportunity because of its weak hardware, however they can't take their own medicine when PC gamers talk about consoles' outdated hardware.

wii isnt a real console wow i think 2nd poster needs to go look up the word video game console and see what pops up cause it clearly is a video game console dont even start saying wii has no core games it has plenty they just dont get attention

becasue wii 2 will be 2 and a half to 3 yrs old-nintnedo runs 5-6 yr life cycles with itsconesole so the ps4 720 will be leap frogged! whos gonna buy one knowing wii 3 will be evenly priced or cheaper and still offer more power ya i think not many only die hard fans will get a ps4 -especally becaus of whats happening with psn

as 360 failed in this dept

so ya a tighter situation for ms because hardly any exclusives from them

I think a more important question is why handheld gaming in general, despite having some of the best games this gen, is never talked about on this forum.

1) Because both consoles are very similar

Simple, it is because the 360 and PS3 set out to do the exact same thing, and have the same target demographic. Home entertainment centers

Nintendo, being the onlytrue console left, that is ment for gaming ONLY! (always laugh when people here claim that PC does not count since it is not a gaming only platform, when neither the 360 or PS3 are either).

The PC, is its own beast, a constant evolving, universal machine, so it is not like the 360 or PS3 either, And they are certainly not the same gen as the PC.

Given that Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are traditional mainstream hardcore videogame consoles. With the most loyal followers of each Brand to cheer/vote/discuss/argue/etc in a Console war. Sony/MS/Nintendo etc don't give jack about the console wars. Just the fanbase of each.

The Nintendo Wii is not meant to go into direct competition wilth Sony and MS. Iwata himself said so during the launch of the Wii. Nintendo was exploring new markets of causal and making new motion control schemes. seems to have worked.

The PC market has always been a different section of the videogame industry. People using personal computers to play games wouldn't see themselves as playing "videogames" in the sense of someone using Xbox 360,wii or PS3. Even though consoles are techinically computers.

Xbox and Playstation are "the most similar". PC and Wii are not anything like Xbox and Playstation. (even if you use any of the 4 you are a Gamer)

Xbox 36054 million Vs PS3 51 million.A very close system "War". The reason is that it is the most popular format for a system war. I own all 4. A PS3 Xbox 360 and I just bought a wii so I can play Donkey Kong Country Returns. Plus I have a PC which I don't use for gaming. I could but I don't.

So The "system war" is always going to be Xbox 360 VS PS3 since the 2 are the most popular combimed formats to play videogames on. Besides being similar enough and having many of the same games that are popular. To have a sustained "System War" (In reality there is no real system war for me since I have all 3 or 4 if you count PC. I like all videogame machines since I have own most of them during my videogame history. So there was never a system war for me.

Just to cheer on your favorite console is the purpose of the system wars. Xbox 360 Vs the PS3 it will always be since those are the sides of the console wars with the most fans. (yes I do know that the wii has sold 86 million consoles)

C'mon man, its so easy.

Because both of these horribly outdated pieces of trash love fighting for the 3rd place, and its pretty close. Who knows what'll land on the 3rd place between these two? So fanboys are fighting, wanting the 3rd place so bad.

Wile the PC stands tall on the 1st place because its far superior in terms of hardware, games, everything, and the Wii humbly (but proudly!) stands on the 2nd place.
