But Wii fit can't?
Two of the biggest games this gen made sure you could find a copy almost anywhere even on launch day. But Wii Fit is sold out and selling for ridiculous prices on ebay. What is going on here?

Yes because after Japan Nintendo didn't know to make enough for the U.S.? Ummm no.
Um..wii fit has a huge ass accessory included with it incase you missed that.comstrikeiscool
Guitar Hero III was huge. Plenty on the shelf. With an accessory in every box.
Not to mention Rock Band comes with even more stuff and was plentiful at launch.
Next excuse please.
well wiifit is more than just an optical disc you know.Ontain
No one else seems to have a problem with this. Just Nintendo. How long have they been in this business?
Nintendo is purposely causing shortages to create demand.
Just like with the Wii. Its beautiful marketing.

With the Wii they can hide behind.."BUT TEH DEMANDZ". With WiiFit theirs really no excuse. None. Zero. This is the correct answer. Great job Nintendo. Great Job.

no actually. the harder it is to find the more "desirable" it is for the consumers. toherwise you could pick up diamonds for a tenner since they just look like glass. but since they're 2 miles underground.. nintendo are masters

what are you comparing to? the GH3 guitar is much lower tech than the wiifit board. I didn't see issues with getting Mario Kart.

Cause they know Mario Kart is for a different market. The "wii" market is the "wiifit" market which feeds on this "I can't find it so I want it" kind of marketing.

Bread_or_Decide
that's a big leap for your conclusion since you have no facts to back that up. more likely is that Mario Kart is an established series while wiifit is new (fact). that and the wheel is low tech compared to the board as well (fact). Also as Haziqonfire said , GH3 for wii was not easy to find.

I have been thinkin about this a lot, and IMO its their way of damage controlling. When it doesnt sell well they can say bu bu bu bu no stock anywhere, when infact most people realise its a gimmick

WiiFit has hardware bundled with it. Rock Band suffered from shortages, too, remember?

after GH and Rock band, how are people surprised that its harder to stock games with peripherals?

It was crazy here in Canada, prices went as high as $180, one even went to $9,000 (something about some dad's son smoking cocaine). Nintendo basically sent no Wii shipments at all in December (same for most of Europe as well).

Apparently the MORE THAN OBVIOUS portion of his post eluded you to the Nth degree.High demand or not I still believe Nintendo is creating false shortages to keep buzz on their products.
It's been like what, almost 2 years now and you still have trouble finding Wiis in store? Yeah right.
Either Nintendo are dumb as logs or they're marketing geniuses. And seeing how the Wii's success is pretty much entirely based off marketing ploys, I don't think Nintendo is going around scratching their heads and saying "Duh we don't know what's going duh".DireToad
The same month that Nintendo increased output by 50% (last month) from 1.8 million to 2.4 million, the regional sales of the Wii jumped up 50% from 500,000 to 750,000. At some point, you just have to admit that this is not an artificial demand.

Someone doesn't remember the early days of launch. I remember GH 2 being hard to find on the 360 when it launched, and GH 3 was spare on the Wii side of things. (You do know it sold more than the 360/PS3 versions right? Now these games have been out for like... what 6 months or soemthing? They've had plenty of time for almost anyone who wanted it to buy it, whereas Wii Fit is new and has been out for like what... a week?

It is to get the hype up. Ninty knows people want what they cant find. Just like the Wii still being soldout, they have to be able to meet demand this far into the life cycle. Thats my opinion anyways.

The collective IQ of this place drops every time someone even suggests that companies are intentionally causing shortages. Unfortunately, as people get dumber from listening to the people who made that suggestion, they start to make that same suggestion themselves. It's a terrible, terrible cycle.

Are you joking? They do it on purpose so it looks like thier product is in much higher demand. Other companies do the same thing, however if I was a Nintendo fan I would be pretty mad.

I KNOW they don't, because it's one of the stupidest strategies to implement. Unless the shortage is very short and very limited, it has an even greater chance of backfiring than it does of succeeding, because deprivation linevitably eads to discontent with the providers, and discontent leads to a LOSS of demand. Have you ever heard the fable of the fox and the grapevine? People will only wait so long and try so hard to get what they want. After that, they convince themselves that they never wanted it in the first place.

By that logic, if MS and Sony made less product, they could sell as much as the Wii, right? People convieniently forget that the Wii outsells the PS3 and 360 combined month after month, yet Nintendo is holding back. My butt.

If they are not doing it to cause Hype, can you give another reason. It is make fun of other peoples theory's, but do you have one of your own. Companies do this all the time Nintendo is not the only one.

I'm sure the balance board is slightly more advanced than a plastic guitar.

Rock Band No guitar Hero Yes.
why do people in this thread still think its a Nintendo conspiracy to purposely reduce the supply to increase demand for WiiFit.
this happens to pretty much every game that comes with a peripheral that has high demand
same thing happened to GH and Rock band, but you have to realize that WiiFit sold a hell of alot more than both of those. thats why there is a shortage.
but of course logic escapes quite a few people here

rock band, yes (where i live). was very hard to find the 360 version in Los Angeles for a few weeks when it came out.

I guess Nintendo didn't plan right, same with the Wii though.

You've got to be joking.
And my theory is the simplest theory: they simply can't manufacture enough boards. How hard is that to understand? Nintendo is under the BIGGEST pressure of all three companies to deliver hardware BY FAR. They're making over three million DSes a month, almost 2.5 million Wiis a month, GOD KNOWS how many Wiimotes a month, and now you expect them to deliver untold millions of balance boards in the span of a few weeks?
Unlike Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft DO NOT OWN their own factories. They have to rely on outsourcing to get the manufacturing capabilities, and even that takes time and money.
For God's sake, people, THINK a bit before you speak.
