[QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="DireToad"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="DireToad"]They can't sell a lot of Wiis and intentionally shrink supply at the same time?Ontain

That's correct. How can you shrink supply while having an insanely big supply? They're mutually exclusive.

So you're saying that just because they sell lots of Wiis it is physically impossible for them to not be making more and selling more Wiis?

There comes a point where it becomes unprofitable.

Correct. right now since they are selling at a rate faster than the ps2 it wouldn't be wise from them to invest in factories that would push production to be able to make 200million consoles for this generation. unless that's actually what they predict they will sell which is quite unlikely.

Wait so you're saying that they're intentionally not making the number of Wiis they could sell?

Nintendo is purposely causing shortages to create demand.

Just like with the Wii. Its beautiful marketing.

Bread_or_Decide

With the Wii they can hide behind.."BUT TEH DEMANDZ". With WiiFit theirs really no excuse. None. Zero. This is the correct answer. Great job Nintendo. Great Job.

New untested IP selling for nearly half the price of a console is no excuse to not mass produce? Its Nintendo under estimating demand, not creating shortages.

It is to get the hype up. Ninty knows people want what they cant find. Just like the Wii still being soldout, they have to be able to meet demand this far into the life cycle. Thats my opinion anyways.

DireToad

The collective IQ of this place drops every time someone even suggests that companies are intentionally causing shortages. Unfortunately, as people get dumber from listening to the people who made that suggestion, they start to make that same suggestion themselves. It's a terrible, terrible cycle.

You don't believe companies cause shortages intentionally?

Is ignorance that blissful?

You are joking right??

If what you are saying is true, then Microsoft and Sony are the dumbest companies ever for not doing the same.

People dont want to search for something for months. If you dont find something you want, at some point you are going to stop caring and spent your money on something else. The shortages are hurting Nintendo not helping them.

Is that hard to figure out that Nintendo is producing every month more Wiis that Microsoft 360s and Sony PS3s combined?? And thats not even counting DS.

[QUOTE="PullTheTricker"]Of course couldn't. Its his favourite company from his childhood. Thats what fanboyism does to you. You lose your common sense.

The biggest launch in intertainement history had absolutely no shortages at all. More investment into bigger production doesn't take a whole **** 2 years.

Fanboys calling other people fanboys is irony and hypocrisy at its finest.

Sorry don't mean to get disrespectfull but I just love using this gif. Always comes in handy for those thick headed posters plaguing these forums.

Me a fanboy, yeh right. I don't give a **** about any money hungry company. wheter that be Sony, Nintendo or MS. Their financial status is none of my business.

The only reason I came here to argue, is because of the all the denial I smelled without even entering the topic. Because I know, people will just call the OT a conspiracy theorist.

Those games DID suffer from shortages, especially Guitar Hero III, also Rock Band initially came out only in the US to prevent shortages (Even Canada got it later). On top of that, the mainstream hype for Wii Fit is far greater and the Balance Board is a far more robust piece of tech.

How quickly we forget it seems.

Probably because Nintendo didn't have as much of a massive hype and advertisement fest like Microsoft did with Halo 3,so they didn't make as many copies to back it up.

They can't meet the demand. Nintendo's done a bit, but its not enough. I'd suggest they estimate higher :P.

You're the biggest fanboy here, because you don't even know it.

At least with DireToad I know he's just *bleeping* around to annoy people. With you, I'm not so sure. It's unbelievable that you would actually believe that intentional shortages are not only good policy, but common policy, too. It's been eighteen goddamn months since the Wii launched, and its supply has gone up 200% since launch, even higher than the PS2 was at its peak, and you still think Nintendo is intentionally causing shortages.

You HAVE no common sense if you think your cockamamie "theory" is true (really, it's no more than a fantasy, since a theory needs evidence first).

I know it's popular, and I see the demand every time I go out. But I still think nintendo could've made more than they did

They're making 2.4 million a month now and still selling out. If they keep up that rate, they'll have 172.8 million units after six years. That's faster, WAY faster than the PS2. Not only that, but their NA sales in April were higher than any home console ever outside of a holiday season or a launch month.

At some point, you just have to realize that gaming as we knew it was just a niche, and that only with the Wii (and the DS) is it finally entering the mainstream.

After reading through this thread, I noticed the only people thinking that Nintendo are making the false demand are the haters....... Surprise surprise.

Actually, the way I see it, gaming goes through a mainstream/niche cycle. One company reaches out past the established audience and becomes successful, as does gaming. Then they don't do much, and gaming becomes somewhat of a niche. Then another company repeats this, and so on and so on.

Guitar Hero 3 and Rock BAnd were completely sold out where I live, so I don't know what you are talking about, but whatever. There is also the possibility that the US has a lot more people who want to buy Wii Fit then Japan, and again the planning thing comes up again, with a false prediction.
