*nods* It's a factor. The people at Sony have allowed the system to be over specialized for each region. They don't seem to understand that the PS2 and PSone were winners because it had something from everywhere, for everyone. Now SCEA is like "LOL MOAR MADDEN AND FPS FOR YOU". It's turning around a little bit though, and NoA has an equally reprehensible localization track record this gen, so it's not just Sony. But Nintendo has a much easier time getting away with it as keeping the core Nintendo fan happy is totally irrelevant to their ability to make money now. Sony on the other hand, is living off their core. A friend of mine said it best, "Microsoft is out playstationing Sony".
Had you told me last gen an Xbox system would be the system of choice not just for JRPGs, but the kind of Japanese gaming content that rounded out the last two Playstations as a whole, while the PS3 would regress to what the Xbox was (a westernized shooter box) I'd have called you insane. But what can I say, it's a mad world. By the time this is turned around, Sony will be lucky to be able to pull up in a draw with MS, at best. Maybe a fraction of a lead even. But don't write them off. The last system to come up dead last in the console wars was the Gamecube, made by Nintendo. We see how that went.
I think the more important question is why is the PS2 stilloutselling the PS3 occasionally? It seems gamers are more enamored with Sony's last gen as opposed to this gen.

For the same reason PSone regularly outsold PS2 and Dreamcast when it $99. An unbeatable entry price, a cubic ton of budget games with a few key titles that are still heavy hitting in their genre. (Persona 4 is the best JRPG made this gen, and it's on last gen hardware)

No kidding. Despite how sweet the online Elite GOTY bundle is, people leave a lot of negative comments on it at sites like Gamestop because they are "old" Elites, not the new Jasper model 360.

because it's a $100 cheaper? Thing is with live which is its main selling point that's $50 so suddenly it's a $50 difference. The elite is actually more expensive. Not all people care for bluray, having better hardware is debatable (although it is more reliable if that's what you meant), and the part about games is subjective. It's the price difference. The majority of customers don't look into thinks like Live and all the extras, they see the initial cost of the systems.

PRICE. the price is the biggest factor.
in australia the cheapest 360 is $299 whilst you can get a ps3 for $699.
with such a price like that the ps3 deserves to get pounded in sales. anyway, that didnt stop me from getting a ps3 in april.
really ask yourself PS3 fans it offer hardly anything more than the 360 in terms of games (apart from 2 games which are slightly better looking) for what double the price. No it deserves to be last.
Thats simple, the answer is its price.. It comes at a cheaper price and thus its more affordable, also it offers a great games library & has a good online service (though that comes at an extra cost)..
However when you take into consideration worldwide sales per month, 360 is not outselling Ps3 by a huge margin...
PS3 at $299 would most probably outsell 360 and if that happens it would confirm the above...

You are completly right. And dont forget that it has 1 or 2 better looking exclusives VS an entire lineup of better looking multiplats! I really would love to know why some ppl think PS3 is a better value :?
1- 360 was launched a year ahead of the PS3, being the first next gen HD console in the market is a powerful step.
2- The price, no need for further explanation. Specially the arcade model.
3- 360 failure rate is higher than other available consoles which means people may get 2 or sometimes 3 of them in order to keep on gaming on their fav console., with their fav games specially if they became fans of the console.
4- 360 as an HD console has many cracked games which sometimes let people buy the console just to play these cracked almost-free games. (some of my friends do that!)
As a result of point number "1" 360 was not having any competition in the first year(as an HD console) and now the PS3 is competing with 360 which makes its sales figures lower than it should be. Of course games and software library affect the sales but people have different tastes and it is arguable which console has better games that is why I excluded it from my points. There are other reasons for 360 to be selling more than the PS3 but there is no need to mention them..

If this list is your opinion then I respect it, if you consider all of it to be facts then you're not absolutely right.

As far as I know China and the middle east has high number of piracy ratios and that would support the number of sales over these 3/4 years by a good amount, maybe 2 or 3 million (estimation) sold 360 are hacked and used to play cracked games, I'm saying this because I live in the middle east and see that there are at least 80% of 360 buyers who buy for the sole reason of getting cheap hacked $5 360 games. In your country maybe not much of a problem but here it is killing pure gaming.
EDIT: btw, M$ can't ban you if you don't go online which in our case has almost 0% probability since hackers know that already when they get their hacked console.

Price is not a problem(obviously) but the concept is very inappropriate and nasty in my book.

But they are significantly higher, about double per average user, that's remarkably significant. We're talking per capita here, not overall, overall they are insane, more users, but the attach rate is software sold per unit sold on average, and it's VERY VERY high.

if a person can afford a 360 they sure hell can afford a ps3. i paid for my 360 much more than for my ps3. (i have 360 arcade 200$ , 120 gb hardrive 100$ , wireless headset keyboard and hdmi cables another 100$ and 50$ live membership.
i also think ps3 exclusives specialy the upcoming ones (ninja gaiden sigma and god of war) are best but thats all subjective. people and sales have proved otherwise. i dont even consider a wii to be a next gen console yet over 50% of console gamers prefer the wii over the ps360. it all depend on games that people want to paly. more gamers want mario than metal gear or gear of war.
