Aside from the lack of third party support, and lesser hardware specs than PS4 and X1......

Really what is so terrible? It is 100% backwards compatible with Wii games, it supports external hard drives, their network, as inferior as it may be to the competition, almost never goes down.

The first party games are unmatched by any other system, the Wii-U controller does allow you to play games remotely from anywhere in your house while someone uses the same TV to watch their shows, as well as being able to use the Wii-U controller as a TV remote.

All in all i think it's an impressive console, so it doesn't sell as well as it's competition, who cares, the games are really mega fun to play, and Gamespot themselves gave Bayonetta 2 a perfect 10 on Wii-U, so it can't be all bad.

Not one of their exclusives interested me and no third party support and the tablet controller and I hated the Wii....those are my reasons.

Personally, I've had enough of Nintendo's franchise's. I've owned a NES to the Gamecube. That's not including handhelds. I'm just over it. However, if they had better hardware and great 3rd party support I may consider it.

Also, their whole YouTube and lets play war is ridiculous.

Then it's pretty obvious your not really a Nintendo fan, and shouldn't really reply to the thread.

I don't really see anyone saying it's terrible. The Wii U is barely talked about anyway compared to the other two consoles. And there's barely any sheep left in system wars which makes it more boring when the majority of topics are just lems and cows arguing, with hermits butting into the conversations to let people know how superior they are.

I'm personally just more intrigued by what the NX will have to offer when I think of Nintendo atm.

If you're into their exclusives, you'll love it. Unfortunately I don't anymore other than zelda and Mario kart. Hopefully I'll enjoy xenogears

Oh i'm impressed with its games too, Bayo 2, Tropical freeze, 3D world WWHD etc. etc. all look amazing. There are some good 3rd party efforts too.

Really the problem wasn't so much the cpu power, but it's a different architecture - it's just not powerful enough for the 3rd party guys that wanted to do a *quick* port job (for example assassin's creed and the COD games) because it would run worse than the other 7th gen console versions without a good effort.

Thats not what i meant, but if your a person who never liked Nintendo games to begin with, than you probably would never approve of any Nintendo console, especially one that is already getting bad press everywhere like the Wii-U.

While I'm disappointed with the Wii U's hardware and online service, in terms of having a library of fun games, it is the best current gen console. I've received much more enjoyment out of my Wii U than I have my Xbox One and PlayStation 4 combined.

@Slimmin360: I've owned Nintendo consoles before....started with the OG Nintendo, had the 64 and played the SNES a ton ( I owned the Genesis though ) so I liked Nintendo and my younger sister owns one and likes it but I bought the Wii and very rarely used it. The exclusives don't do it for me anymore and the gimmicks I'm over too. But you asked about the WiiU so I gave an answer to why I don't own or want one.

Well it's probably because it's become pretty apparent to most Nintendo fans here that PS4 and X1 fanboys relish the things like powerful hardware and mega system sales, and therefore maybe they don't feel like they can participate in system wars if they just like and own a Wii-U, because unfortunately the so called "hardcore gamers' here don't go by fun factor anymore.

Instead they keep track of network performance, framerates, polygons, Teraflops, 1080 resolution, and sales, all crap that none of true gamers ever cared about 25 years ago, and shouldn't care about now.

If games are fun to play and make people happy playing them, then the stupid specs or sales numbers shouldn't matter we never cared about that crap when we were kids and we shouldn't let it rule our game choices now.

No. Nintendo fans need to know why people are not buying their beloved console. Those of us who gamed since before Nintendo and grew up with them are finished. The other poster is correct. Nintendo's exclusives lack diversity and, thusly, suck. No third party support when all of the most popular games, that are not pack in games, are third party is a system eliminator.

Oh, also, the only reason a lot of us come here is because these Wii U threads come up in the most recent list frequently. They're entertaining.

I disagree with the too kiddy comments, if they really exist. Just because the games can be played by little people and have colorful graphics, doesn't mean they are games for children. My guess is that most of us are just platformed out. Heck, I deleted the free platformers from GWG already. They just bore me mostly, except for Ori. I WANNA play that soon. :D

I have no problem with the Wii U. I actually find it to be a pretty decent system. I pity it mostly, as I view it as a neglected step child of an incompetent or uncaring parent. Nintendo is the problem, not the system. Off-screen play is cool, but it's apparent that Nintendo gave no thought as to the Gamepad before it released, as they've only recently begun giving us games that truly NEED it (Mario Maker). So...mostly unused Gamepad? Nintendo's fault. Network capabilities behind the expected? Nintendo's fault. Third party absence? Nintendo's fault. None of these can be laid at the Wii U's feet. I suppose power could, but for the games Nintendo likes to makes, it's pretty irrelevant.

It's terrible as a primary console.

As a secondary or niche console, it doesn’t seem "terrible", but it's not that great either... at least not compared to past Nintendo consoles. It was never going to sell well at $349 or $299 considering the weak hardware which is basically last gen level. In 10 years, it will be semi-fondly remembered for about 20 of it's games. Not that different from the way Ninteno's other "last place" console, the Gamecube, was remembered for it's exclusives. However,it seems pretty obvious to me the Gamecube will have ended up with the far superior library of games compared to Wii-U. Due to the complete lack of 3rd parties, Wii-U will probably end up with the highest ratio of "exclusive" games of any console ever. But the total volume of great games is still terribly low, and will forever remain that way considering even Nintendo seems to pretty much be giving up on it.

I have no idea. So far I've only seen comments like "PS4 and Xbox One has way more and better games" without any further explanation. Then you look at PS4's library which consists of Bloodborne. The rest is either crap or better on PC. I don't even know what Xbone has that is worth playing.. Halo 5 soon maybe.

I think the Wii-U is a good console. Better than Wii but not as good as the GameCube. A lot better than PS4 and Xbone.

Wii is the only console I never owned.

Yeah but the thing is: a lot of people own one system.

And they want that system to play both exclusives and multiplats. So a lot of PS4/Xbone gamers don't care about PC having the best version of multiplats. And if you own a Wii-U, you are kinda forced to buy another system if you want Far Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid, Batman, ... games like that.

Well, I pity those. By owning only one of the twin consoles they have to settle with their lack of exclusives and weak hardware. But I can't take someone who buys Call of Duty 14 and calls Wii-U crap seriously. There are lots of people who call the Wii-U a terrible console without a good reason to do so. That Wii-U doesn't get inferior versions of AC, CoD, FarCry, Metal Gear, etc. is, in my opinion, not a good reason. I doubt Wii-U would be praised if it did have those games..

Reasons I often see as to why Wii-U is a terrible console:

No third party support - I understand this reason, though in my opinion, it's a pretty bad one as that support didn't result in must-play games for the twin consoles anyway.
Bad controller - Never really seen a good explanation why. Personally, I think the battery should've been better and I find the controller a bit large. Still wouldn't call it bad.
Weak hardware - The difference between Wii-U and the twins is so small anyway, why even bother with this? You like graphics? Get a PC and stop fighting about what sucks the least.
Bad online - Bad how? I only play Splatoon and Mario Kart online, but those work great. And I greatly prefer the e-shop layout over the PS4 and Xbox stores.

I prefer having multiple systems. Including: PC, consoles and handhelds.

Puposely being blind to what other systems have to offer, typical behaviour seen on these forums (just call an entire library crap for example), is stupid.

But on the other hand I own a Wii U, Vita, 3DS, Xbox One and PC right now (along with last gen consoles). And I just can't find the time to play them all. Meaning long periods where my consoles don't get any playtime.

So perhaps for me it would be better to stick exclusively to PC... But I'm always tempted by what the other systems have to offer.

"But I can't take someone who buys Call of Duty 14 and calls Wii-U crap seriously."

Good point. Like I said: a lot of people only own a PS4 OR Xbox One. And a lot of people never expand their horizon beyond COD, Fifa, Madden or Destiny.

Which is a shame, but never the intended audience of a WiiU anyway.

Also, I'm not talking inferior ports. I'm saying if the WiiU was as powerful as PS4/ Xbox one, it could quench people's thirst for third party games. And they wouldn't need a secondary system per se.

About the controller >

It's pretty big yes, but you get used to it really quickly. I just wished the touchscreen was of better quality. It feels like a really cheap tablet with a very low res. But of course better touchscreen would mean more expensive.

About the hardware >

Completely agree. Watching PS4 and Xbox owners b1tch about WiiU graphics, watching PS4 owners b1tch about Xbox graphics is just hilarious as a PC gamer.

Maybe there is a point in better looking games costing more to make. At least Nintendo doesn't ask 60 up front for an incomplete product that can be improved with DLC and microtransactions

About the e-shop >

I'm not a real fan of it. It's suffice. but it's not great or anything. I mostly buy physical copies anyway, they are cheaper ^^

Really what is so terrible? It is 100% backwards compatible with Wii games, it supports external hard drives, their network, as inferior as it may be to the competition, almost never goes down.

The first party games are unmatched by any other system ... so it can't be all bad.

Opinion <> fact. Nintendo's games are not better. The third party exclusives aren't either.

Ironic post. But for clarification for you....opinion <> fact.

@Slimmin360: I rather support 3DS over there Wii U. I own a Wii U, but it get's little to no gameplay for me. Splatoon was fun and I really enjoy it, but that's about it. But with the 3DS, it has way more content, more games, and I have over 13 digital games in a single 32GB. 3DS all the way kids.

@Slimmin360:

Ok lets summarize all the strong reasons :

1) Lack of 3rd party support in general , serious lack. So serious that console becoming a dust collector for few months till something great gets a release.

2) Not appealing AT ALL to graphic whores and the ones that want to keep up with eye candy games

3) Overused of same first party titles got people tired and/or even worse ... younger audiences not that interested .. their main audience that is.

4) Lack of any serious multiplayer game that people love to play for hours and hours ( COD / BF / Destiny / Diablo 3 and so many other successful MP games missing from system ) People often choose a console for MP , depends what their friends own so they can play together... Wii U is not one of those consoles.

5) Its not following in hardware tech the competition ( missing multimedia capabilities and so on ) , people finding it kinda overpriced as we speak considering its heading to its death and its overall specs

6) Currently in life support , waiting for 1-2 games worth mention to became officialy a dead system .... sooooo soon in this generation once more...

7) Nintendo DOESNT TRY new AAA ips at all so for people that dont like that much some or most of current Nintendo AAA 1st party titles having ZERO reasons to buy a Wii U while 3rd party missing also.

8) Nintendo 1st party games cost ALOT of $$ even after 2-3 years of their initial release. Thats epic fail

9) Nintendo in general focusing way more on Controllers and fancy/gimmicky stuff than hardware itself so they did with Wii U

10) The Wii U name sounds BAD ... Some people didnt even know Wii U was a new console

11) No consistency at all in software releases ... When you missing 3rd party titles thats what happens. Theres no consistency at all of what to play ... A strong , epic 2014 ... and an upsetting 2015...

12) Wii U tried to appeal to casuals ... once again ... it backfired

13) NX already announced that is coming ... making Wii U feel worse than it is as a future purchase

14) Its a secondary platform, called by ex-ceo himself .. and a secondary platform cant do much with hardcore/semihardcore gamers that is

Weak and slow console. PS4 is so freaking ahead in that aapect that WiiU feels like last Gen.

Almost zero third party support.

Gimmicky controller with a terrible battery.

I believe the NX is going to be much better and they will finally be able to compete if they play their cards right that is.

Hope for new IP's and less rehashes. No one new IP like splatoon does not change anything but it's a start. Also no region lock bullshit or else fans will rage.

- No 3rd party support

- Weak hardware ( This wouldn't be a problem if they werent selling the console at a premium price)

- All digital purchases are linked to the system and not a user account.

- way to many (1st party) kiddie games for my taste.

The Wii U hardware is terrible because the people put in charge of configuring the hardware are worse at it than their competitors. They thought they could get away with being lazy because the Wii sold so much. Now they're left with a mediocre and expensive gamepad that hardly actually gets used - even when it would be logical (a map in Hyrule Warriors, for example).

It isn't terrible if you dig Nintendo exclusives, but if you don't it is easily one of the worst consoles ever released.

Well my son already has an X1 in his room that i play whenever i like, and although i thought about getting a PS4....spending yet another $400 plus on a console with a nearly identical library, with a few exclusive exceptions is just not worth it, i would rather have the Wii-U and have the night and day differences in the house that X1 and Wii-U have.

@Slimmin360: Thank you for making this thread. The Wii is not perfect, but it is a good console as are the PS4 and Xbox One. The competition between all three is beneficial for gamers as the companies strive to bring different and quality gaming experiences.
