The 360 needs to find itself in the $150-$199 range for it to sell big numbers. The longer they wait on dropping the price, the better the chance Sony can stay in this race. Meanwhile, the Wii is steam rolling with its $250 price tag.
The price is waay more important to casual gamers/ average consumers than alot of us think. especially with the tighter budgets people find themselves on lately.
Racerchops
You are right. It seems some want to pretend that the majority of the population wants to drop $400 (american) just to play games. No they don't They will wait for a price cut as most consumers end up doing.
[QUOTE="Shatin"]release halo 3NaturalDeezism
About 95% of the peoplewho wants Halo 3 already has a 360, so it wont sell alot more, maybe 1000 consoles.
Meanwhile, PS3 hasn't sold well because everyone is waiting for the good games, thats what people seem to forget and they bash it for absolutely no reason.
95%? About 50/70 of my friends from Halo 2 still have an Xbox. I'm pretty sure it's the same with every other Halo fanatic.
People are waiting for the PS3's price drop. What games are you talking about, anyway?
Macs  O please, Windows is just as good or not better the Apple's computers. Please tell me what about Windows Vista (since it's the newest OS) is garbage.[QUOTE="DSgamer64"]It is made by Microsoft. The only reason Windows is popular is because its the standard that everyone has to live with, if it wasnt, Mac's would be the standard. People are loyal to the brands they trust, and not everyone trusts Microsoft, or they are just generally mad at how garbage Windows generally is and they refuse to buy a console from them. limpbizkit818
There is no reason the 360 should sell this poorly. People are just to brand loyal to Sony to buy an Xbox. Brand loyalty is the the most powerful thing a company can have *looks at iPod*. For instance, people still insist that GTA4 will be better on PS3 and are going to be buying a PS3 to play it. Why? Because the system says Sony on the front.
Everything about Vista is crap. The fact that it requires double the specs just to run Vista Home Premium is rediculously stupid, the only Vista version actually worth buying is Ultimate if you are a gamer. The poor software compatibility, terrible DirectX 10 basically being rushed out and no games fully support it, nor were there any video cards for DX10 until about6 monthsafter Vista launched. Aero is crap, and Vista's layout is a completeripoff of Mac OSX, just shows how much M$ knows about creating new ideas. Games for Windows is going to wind up ruining PC gaming as we know it because M$ knows that Intel and Nvidia are supporting Apple computers for hardware more and what with EA and ID both starting to make their games for OSX, it is only a matter of time before Apple regains control of the PC market sometime within the next 10 years.
And fanbase from last gen is obviously loyal, if you think that is true, then you already found the answer. If people are truly loyal towards gaming companies, then the 360 will wind up with similar sales figures as the original Xbox, if not a bit more. You lemmings seem to think that every Sony or Nintendo fan is going to jump ship for your shoddy hunk of plastic that you call a console but it does not work that way. People have been loyal to Nintendo for the last 20 years, hence why they have managed to survive even though they were always the company with the weaker hardware for a console compared to some of the competition. The PS1 was the weakest, yet it won against the N64 and SNES, the PS2 won against the GC and Xbox and it was also the weakest, so naturally it would make sense if the Wii winds up winning this generation and for more reasons then just fan loyalty, its all about target audience and the games being made. Not every gamer loves shooters and racing games you know, and that is something both Xbox consoles had more then any other genre. The PS2 had all sorts of genres, and while FPS games were not great on it, at least they were there.
And I got a question to ask the "PS3 is selling well for a $600 console" Sony fanboy apologist.
Was there ever a successful $600 console?
While I don't like to entertain hypotheticals, di you guys honestly think the PS3 would be at a third of the sales it is now if it didn't have the Playstation brand on it?

Was there ever a console that costs more than 400 bucks other than this gen (and I don't mean the really old systems that sold less than 100,000 made by tiger)?
Ok ill spin it my way. Has there ever been a console that had a main Final Fantasy game and didnt win its gen? ;)And I got a question to ask the "PS3 is selling well for a $600 console" Sony fanboy apologist.

*sigh*
People, there is a difference between a NON-GAMER and a CASUAL. Non-gamers are going to be the ones who are oblivious to the hardware failure rates and what games are on the system. Pretty much EVERYONE i know who plays video games has heard of Gears of War, yes, even the casuals and some non-gamers.
If something looks COOL to a casual, they will most likely buy it.
Also people, you act like casuals aren't allowed to know ANYTHING about the video game world. Casuals CAN have hardcore friends who DO know about the hardware rates and may ask them about the console. People dont want to buy things that will break on you, and the hardware failure rates are pretty well known. Casuals may also have casual friends who have had 360s that broke, and they could spread the word about how theirs broke. Word of mouth travels fast. Do you honestly think that Gears of War has sold nearly 4 million to hardcore gamers alone?
And $400 is a lot of dough for a casual hobby.
I say the 360 marketing teams need to be fired.
Or given more cash.
We need to see more creative commericials, show compeling gameplay, lay ou the advantages and give away Live.

Exactly.
So to say the 360 should be selling as well as the PS2 did is ridiculous.
Contrary to popular belief amonst the "l33t h4rdc0r3" on message boards, $400 is a lot to many people.

sorry ninja but the product is crap and people just flush that they dont buy it. the sad fact is that this time the xbox has no real value, only problems, higer cost, smaller games, microtransactions, ms telling to the devs " hey no free levels guys" the idea is good, the people behaind the idea are not.

Has a FF game ever had to sell a $600 system.
Why do you think Square Enix won't be bringing any games out for the system until the second half of 2008?
I don't see 360 finishing second. I see it winning in the end. Wii is hot now but in two years it's graphical limitations will kill it. Especially when the 360 premium drops to $299 this christmas like expected. 360 elite rumored also to drop to $399atarigrad

The Wii is a console juggernaut pretty much demolishing everything. The PS3 is selling like garbage for two reasons, price and lack of games. So whats the 360s problem? The 360 has been selling 'ok' since its launch. It has awesome games, awesome graphics, and is priced pretty darn well for what you get. So why isnt it getting above average sales? The 360 isnt showing anything other than a console that will finish a meek #2 to the Wii. I really cant understand what the 360 can do better than what its currently doing...Carmilla31
A lot of business and marketing experts frankly don't even consider the Wii as a next-gen. Nintendo used recycled components from mass-produced Gamecube models and have adapted them to the Wii, which explains the slightly better performance than the Gamecube or similar performance to the Gamecube excluding the encrypted DVD drive, processor, and graphic card (which are themselves just a bit better than the first XBOX's). The XBOX 360 and PS3's are the real next-gens: better graphics, HD resolutions, HD-DVD connectivity or Blu-Ray intergrated, HD surround sound, games with awesome gameplay, AAA games, etc. The Wii is selling fast I'll give you that, but the real next-gen war is between Sony and Microsoft, and the latter is winning, but that doesn't leave Sony in the dust or crummy garbage, give it a few more months to a year, you'll see. Anyways just my opinion based on what some experts say.
The poster who said "400 dollars", hit the nail on the head for the most part. Last gen the overwhelming majority(something like 80%) of the PS2's and xbox's userbase jumped on board once the price hit 200 bucks and less. 200 bucks is approximately the price for a machine to make the jump into the "mainstream" market. Originally people were predicting failure for the 360 at its pricepoint...sony did them a favor and priced the PS3 high enough to make the 360 seem "cheap" at 400 bucks. The wii entered the market pretty close to that magic pricepoint, and its sales seem to support that. If the Wii get too threatening, the 360 price will drop dramatically. I figure 300 bucks after the Halo3 and holdiays for the premium, and 200 bucks by next christmas. Sales will spike after each. The 360 is far and away the most successful console over 400 bucks ever.Steppy_76When i bought the PS1 brand new i paid $99. When i bought the PS2 brand new i paid $150. I didnt buy them because they were cheap. I bought them because at that time, about 3 years into their life, they had a bazillion great games for them. You may have a point...

sales jump a bit but not too major but all systems will sell well during christmas.
Becuase xbox built its reputation last gen as a console brand that caters to mainly Mature rated games and shooters, mainly american types of games. They still have not done much to make sure that a varied game library is available for thier platforms, therefore they aren't expanding thier userbase.
PS3 will be the all around console with the most varied types of games that everyone can enjoy. That's what made ps2 and ps1 so succesful around the world.
actually the 360 is doing well in the Uk and america and europe. where it fails is japan. and its not the 360's fault. It has japanese games. Just japanese gamers just dont want it. I think its mainly due to the fact, that japanese gamers dont like online games too much.Hadoken_Kid
agreed - that and most people think the 400$ is a bit pricey.
people learned after PS2 = NEVER BUY A 400$ CONSOLE WHEN IT IS FIRST RELEASED! it had next to zero decent games for months, hardware issues, supply issues, and a relatively quick price-drop. I think it kind of made console purchasers a bit wary -- a lot of people just wait it out these days.

1. It's $400, for some reason people think thats pocket change compared to $600.
2. Lack of games, believe it or not the 360 doesn't offer much more then PS3.
3. Everybody is still playing their ps2, which is currently better then all 3 next-gen systems combined
