This is one quest in New Vegas. Look at the variety of skills it uses and the number of options you can do to complete it. This is leagues beyond anything ME2 does in the whole game.

Parasomniac

Except the constant loading screens and glitches. Though I'd imagine the game would probably be pretty damn good on the PC......

Both are great...but NV is a better RPG hands down. ME1 was way more of a rpg than me2, but me2 is still great!

I willing to bet all major decisions will play a big part in ME3, but many actions are significant and noticeable. I don't see how they're not.

Avian005

And you would be correct - ME2 checked for hundreds of decisions in the ME1 imported save game. Linky.

That's one reason I feel sad for PS3 players...not their fault that the comic didn't cover everything that should have been mentioned.

NV is clearly the best RPG simply because ME2 barely qualifies as one, looking at Bioware´s work the game that ME2 resembles the most is,amusingly,MDK2....a TPS.

Lol, so much for ME2 "nonlinearity" with dialogue options that half of them are the same in temrs of results.

I'm willing to bet they don't.. bioware promised that with ME2 and none of them played a major role. Could you give me the examples of the noticeable changes that are a result of your actions?Espada12
Here's your spoiler warning lmao \ \ \ \ lets see: killing wrex/ashley/kaiden in the first game letting the council die (or not) helping Tali complete her pilgrimage or not your "biggest fan" though that didn't seem to major... yet and the aforementioned romances... try cheating on Liara and playing Lair of The Shadow Broker lol killing or saving Feros' colonists and then all the things that don't come to light until ME 3 : purging/saving the rachni the council member choice purging/converting the heretic geth keeping/destroying the reaper technology the so-called "biggest fan" from ME 1 and 2 once again, killing wrex/kaiden/ashley which characters die in the suicide mission (No one ever died for me, but I'm playing through again and if I had to pick, it'd be Zaeed lol) obviously this isn't a complete list (as mentioned before, ME 3 checks over 1000 choices from ME 1 and ME 2), and unless you've played through both ME 1 and 2 multiple times, you can hardly say that your choices had little impact.

Subjective? So then Link's Revenge is the best FPS of all time, right? The whole point of genre is it has a list of objective criteria for purposes of categorizing what game it is, it's the very definition of objective. The question is which game fits the genre better, and that's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of definition.

Mass Effect 2 was a more polished, accomplished experience. But Fallout New Vegas was ambitious. Despite its faults, I enjoyed it far more.

I actually care about my characters in Mass Effect. And the story is actually good. Fallout games are lacking in story and character development. They have a great universe in Fallout, but so does Mass Effect.

I love how Mass Effect "isn't an RPG" simply because it doesn't have as many choices as Fallout . Last I checked, there was more to being an RPG than just that. In fact, the vast majority of RPGs are completely linear.

Nah, the whining about the changes Bioware made in ME2 are ad infinitum, I just can't understand why people cry so much. Anyway, ME2 is not a traditional RPG, it's a step foward in the genre, I really can't see nothing that comes close to it.

SaltyMeatballs

In the genre, it is a step backward. Backward out of the genre and into other genres, where it excels to an extent far greater than its measure relative to the greatest RPGs of all time.

I challenge you to relate one single way in which ME2 advanced the ROLEPLAYING genre.

Better combat. I also thought researching to upgrade the ships defences/attacks and your own weapons/armour was better than just finding a new weapon.

FF13 had good combat, does that mean its advancing RPGs as well?

Final Fantasy is stupid? I'm just going to assume that you're talking about one or two games in the series. Otherwise, you may as well just put "my opinion is invalid" in your signature.

And that's not to mention that my post didn't even have a reason that backs your claim in it.

Sure... but those awards are objectively meaningless when determining inherent quality.

Or you could, you know, just argue your own opinion and realise that saying "oh well it won X amount of awards" doesn't actually affect the discussion in any tangible way, other than plainly illustrating that you can't, or aren't willing to, defend the game based on its own merits.

... which is surprising to me considering you're playing it on consoles. I have Fallout 3 on my 360 and it's ... ugh. Being able to extensively mod New Vegas is the best part about the game for me.

Still, I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 far more. There's not much room for debate here.

Aren't they all up for Grammy's? Or have either won Grammy's, or some kind of award at some time? We are talking about the SAME EXACT THING here. Recognition from the critical community of that particular industry. They'be all been recognized for producing music that has been popular and commercially successful. I don't like it, and think its very simple... but other people do like it. Would I consider it the best music ever made? Nope. But people still do enjoy it.

There is no way of objectively determining "quality" of art. Even by critical reception (which is merely opinion wrapped up in "professionalism").

I experienced both games on the same platform and much prefered New Vegas (I found it memorable... while Mass Effect 2 I found detestable).

As far as RPG elements go, yes I would agree that New Vegas is more RPG like than Mass Effect 2. I honestly think Mass Effect 1, had more RPG elements than Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 > New Vegas imo.

First off, critics don't vote for Grammys, record company employees do. Second, the grammys aren't really that prestigious, and some artists like Pearl Jam and Tool have called the meaningless. Third, legendary artists such as The Clash and Springsteen have never won top Grammys, not all musicians who become legends win. Fourth, indie artists don't win (or artists on indie labels). There is no pure objective way, true, but reception by critics and fans is the closest thing you can get.

Bah. You can't tell me that all the GOTY awards Oblivion won make it "one the best RPGs of the generation" or "one of the best games of the generation." It is neither. I enjoy it, but I can admit that it doesn't deserve that kind of praise.

RPG now days have the problem where they tend to move away from the stats based system (one of the backbones of a rpg) and turn it into a twitch/action or hack and slash game.

"Haters gonna hate" is just you sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "LALALA I can't hear your criticism, so it doesn't exist!" "...huge breakthrough(s)..." for what? Dumbing down role-playing games? KotOR was good... but compared to games like Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, etc., it was pretty simple.

[QUOTE="Espada12"]I'm willing to bet they don't.. bioware promised that with ME2 and none of them played a major role. Could you give me the examples of the noticeable changes that are a result of your actions?xMarex
Here's your spoiler warning lmao unless you've played through both ME 1 and 2 multiple times, you can hardly say that your choices had little impact.

Umm tell me the consequences of any of those actions....there are none that matter.

I liked Mass Effect 2 more simply becauseit didn't cause my systemto crash in the middle of the game :o

This. I've had more crashes from Bethesda games vs. BioWare games.

What matters is what genre the developer says it is. They wrote the game, it is up to us as to whether or not we purchase and play.
