To start I owned the 360 before getting the wii. Nonetheless, I was still pumped for Nintendo's "revolutionary" system. Don't get me wrong, the console is fun, but not nearly as fun as it is made out to be and it gets tremendously boring.

I used to defend the wii on these forums and now I feel like a sheep for being a blind fool. For any hardcore gamer with a nice tv and surround sound system rig, the wii is aweful.  Not only is the sound horrendous, but it looks worse in HD then in SD in most cases. I find myself having way more fun playing my 360 in full hd and 7.1 digital optical surround sound. With the wii, I felt like I was back at the beginning of last gen, which resulted in it collecting dust as I continued to play my 360. About 3 months after getting it I traded my wii for a PS3.

Honestly, I am extremely glad I did. Nintendo games just don't have the longetivity that xbox live and PSN bring to games. They also don't have much visual appeal because all but Nintendo's first party art (to those color lovers, art doesn't necessarily mean painting a game in a rainbow) is bland and limited by weak hardware. I don't care if casuals and kids are dumb enough to buy the wii, and if the wii wins because of this, the 360 and even ps3 are still better consoles.

Finally, the reason I say that Nintendo did a disservice to the hardcore gamer, is because we want to be wowed by our games and stay addicted, where as kids and casuals want to flail their arms around like idiots for a couple hours instead of just going outside and playing sports, etc. I have been gaming for over 20 years, and I LOVE zelda and I could not even finish Twilight Princess. It was frustratingly easy, and actually looked worse in HD then in SD. Sorry Nintendo but that is not what I, and most tech savy folk are looking for. Congrats on getting back to the top and bringing more gamers in, but next time don't leave all of us hardcore adult gamers (and no I am not asking for mature games, I am asking for more challenging games with more longetivity) out in the cold.

Edit:  What peeved me off at the start was that Nintendo put a wireless card in the wii that costs nearly $100 whereas they could have put a $10 LAN port in and used the remainder of the money towards hardware.  I am sure that the wii could have been a nice little 720p console with amazing visuals had they done this, and in doing this they also alienate all the casuals who do not have wireless.

The first is ridiculous. The second, I disagree with. I think it looked better in 480p, on my HDtv.

I have to agree, hardcore gamers will probably not enjoy the wii as much as, say, a PC :)

I kinda agree with you, all these minigames, low graphics, experimental gameplay and all their ''include new consumers into gaming'' thing it's just their way to attract ppl to buy their system. I was too hyped by the Wii back at E3 but now it's like meh.

Funny, the reason I don't own a 360 is because they charge 100 dollars for wireless on top of the console cost.

The only game that looked legitimately better, was red steel (which is an aweful game anyways). All the rest got worse because the HD just showed how aweful the textures really are. Wii Sports also looked much nicer now that I think about it, but rayman, dbz, excite truck, TP, elebits, madded, trauma center,....looked worse (big hdtv btw).

I have an HDTV and a Surround sound system. I still like my wii and still play it almost every day. if you're a gamer that needs to play 5+ hours a day it might not be for you. I have a pc for my other gaming needs (RPG's and MMORPGs). but I find that when you want to play with others the wii is great. I'm waiting for better games and i'm sure they'll eventually come. I've played red steel and thought it was pretty fun. they just needed a lot more fine tuning on bugs, ai and story. but it did keep in glued to my couch for a few hours at a time.

Wow, games that have looked the same for ages...mario galaxy looks good, but the rest look terrible. I am very disappointed in what I have seen in metroid so far. Prime was great because it was lush, and now it seems like they are heading in a resistance/gears direction which looks terrible for that particular series.

But the best games also have good graphics (depending on what it is trying to accomplish).

So quit with the "Graphics whore" stuff already.

If a game has such terrible graphics that you can't make out objects or see where your going then you can't possibly play it now can you? So I guess graphics do count for something eh?

It's obvious that you just don't like the Wii at this point. You'll only be able to see what you want to. I would suggest to try and look at these games in a fair light, but to each his own.

built in wireless doesn't cost them $100. that's just what MS charges you. if you look at pc's the built in wireless on laptops are like $15 extra and that's retail. hmmm at this point i wonder what has a high adoption rate. wireless networks or HDTV.

Most of us have other responsibilities (jobs, college, etc.), five hours a day is far too much for many to devote to gaming

Not only that, but nice visuals makes the experience that much more memorable. Like God of War II is blowing my mind now. The art in that game is astounding and thats because they have about 7 lead artists who just draw prototypes for everything and they pick the best out of about 20 pieces. Everything is huge and has amazing visual fidelity. Far better looking then zelda.

Lol...it does not look great, it looks stereotypical nintendo. The twilight world did look great, but the normal world was just normal. And if its not challenging I dont find it fun, and frankily I love action games. Its my favorite genre.

[QUOTE="Dr_DudeMan"][QUOTE="OMGTEHGRUKWTF"][QUOTE="axt113"]Sorry dude, Hardcore is a small segment of the market, there will still be games for them, but the blue ocean strategy of Nintendo is about much more, as for grpahics, if you can't stand SD level graphics then I feel sorry for you axt113

LOL. SD is 640x480. The polygons are as big as boulders.

Never had any problem with SD graphics [QUOTE="Dr_DudeMan"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="Dr_DudeMan"] where as kids and casuals want to flail their arms around like idiots for a couple hours instead of just going outside and playing sports, etc. Twilight Princess was frustratingly easy, and actually looked worse in HD then in SD.

The first is ridiculous. The second, I disagree with. I think it looked better in 480p, on my HDtv.

Your big issue seems to be grpahics well you knew for months that Wii would have weak graphics

If you read it all there is much more then just a graphics problem. Graphics is what I happen to mention least.

Most of your complaint seems to be "waaahh, it doesn't look good on my HDTV"

People are quoting graphics issues I raised and I am responding to the questions and comments, the original post is my overall opinion, maybe you should read that.

[QUOTE="TSCombo"][QUOTE="Dr_DudeMan"][QUOTE="TSCombo"]So this is another, "I wish the Wii looked like the 360" thread? Twilight Princess was bad...:?Dr_DudeMan
Yeah I hate to tell you that it was not very good. A game that is not challenging is not fun. I had no sense of accomplishment as I dragged myself from one event to another.

It was the most fun I've had in a few months when I finished it. Maybe it's just me because I like adventure games. IMO it looked great also. Guess I'm not hardcore.:(

Lol...it does not look great, it looks stereotypical nintendo. The twilight world did look great, but the normal world was just normal. And if its not challenging I dont find it fun, and frankily I love action games. Its my favorite genre.

You're trying to pass of your opinion as fact

[QUOTE="Dr_DudeMan"]They also don't have much visual appeal because all but Nintendo's first party art is bland and limited by weak hardware.

Wait, what? :?

What game other then zelda has reasonably interesting art?

Paper Mario, Wario Ware, Mario Galaxy, Metriod Prime 3. Need any more? Paper Mario alone is enough to prove that point wrong.

Wow, games that have looked the same for ages...mario galaxy looks good, but the rest look terrible. I am very disappointed in what I have seen in metroid so far. Prime was great because it was lush, and now it seems like they are heading in a resistance/gears direction which looks terrible for that particular series.

 Yeah because you've played the game and know how it will turn out

Lrn2rd bud. Visually its going in that direction from the concepts we have seen.

Well Nintendo made it so I guess they couldn't fool anyone with their Nintendo-esque take on Zelda. If you are fan of action adventure how could you not like Zelda TP other than because it doesn't look like Gears? You said it's easy but you didn't even finish it. Sounds like you have an agenda.

It's obvious that you just don't like the Wii at this point. You'll only be able to see what you want to. I would suggest to try and look at these games in a fair light, but to each his own.

I camped 2 days for it. Played it like crazy for a month, bought a ton of games for it hoping a few would be fun, so I think I gave it an extremely fair chance.

Oh I read it, you spent most of the post talking about its bad graphics on your HDTV, and its weak hardware, something you should have known months in advance

To the TC, you claim to be a hardcore gamer yet a SCREEN RESOLUTION put you off playing a console, despite apparently playing for 20 years?

UKNintendoFreak
Yes it does. Why do you think PC's are overhauled by competative gamers yearly?

[QUOTE="Dr_DudeMan"][QUOTE="Ontain"]I have an HDTV and a Surround sound system. I've played red steel and thought it was pretty fun. they just needed a lot more fine tuning on bugs, ai and story. but it did keep in glued to my couch for a few hours at a time.axt113
By hardcore I do mean people who may play 5 hours a day. I probably play about that. The wii start wearing off for me and all my buddies after about a month.

Most of us have other responsibilities (jobs, college, etc.), five hours a day is far too much for many to devote to gaming

I think Medschool is just as big a responsibility.

Camped for 2 days for it, then didn't even give it a proper chance? How long? You had it for 2 months?

Riiiight, because SD is so crappy , yet if the movie Shrek or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children can look amazing and completely destroy anything on the PS3 and 360, then SD still has plenty of kick left. HD really is over rated, PS3 and 360 games could've looked even better then they do now if their maximum resolution was capped at 480p.

Being a graphics whore does NOT make you a "hardcore gamer" it simply makes you a graphics whore that is probably into tech more than anything. The people that are really into games or the so called "hardcore gamers" are going back to the SNES every week to play games they love.

I kind of agree with you. I don't mind the graphics at all but the games just aren't there for me. I get that Nintendo is trying to draw in non gamers and create a new market but I feel like they left me behind. This is why Wii60 is the way to go for me.

I smell fakeboy here.

He claimed to have camped out for TWO DAYS (I camped out for 12hrs for my Wii) and after two months, he trades in his Wii?

Yeah....fakeboy indeed.
