- Yooka-Laylee has recently stated it's going on GOG.
- Bloodstained Ritual of the Night is going DRM Free too.
- D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die Released on GOG the same day the Steam version was released.
- Over Half of The Witcher 3 PC sales were on GOG.
I know it may actually not seem much, but with the Release of Galaxy over at GOG I think things are changing in the PC space.
We're seeing on Steam and other places. The Steam Summer Sale has just started and we're seeing some Developers start pulling some "shady" practices. And These are not Small time Developers either, Rockstar added Some In game Cash to jack up the prices of GTA V just so the 25% off "sale" price would go down to the base game price.
The Base game of GTA V is not actually on sale, but for a few moments of the Steam Summer sale it looked like it was with a inflated price.
Is this what we want for the future of PC gaming? Steam seems at least to me starting to become like this big cesspool of big 3rd party and small indie publishers trying to get away with horrible business practices and constantly trying to screw over the consumers. I don't want to say that GOG is the right way to go, but what about Humble Bundle? Which also sells DRM free games (as well as Steam Codes, sometimes both) and each sale has some stuff going to charity.
Also having DRM free games means less bullshit from the Publishers and more ownership of the games we buy. That way if something happens to our PCs we still have these games on backup and we don't have to constantly be online to play our games, or verify that we do own them.
So I ask of you System Warriors why not go for GOG or other DRM-Free Sites? Why should Steam have all of the fun? Shouldn't we be asking for more DRM Free Support from Big Name Publishers?
I actually think it should be the future of PC gaming, but realistically we can't have it, because of the fear of Piracy and that's a shame.
