The one and only reason to buy any console : The games.Tykain
That's not true. Educate yourself on the term "versatility".
they are STILL having serious issues with their firmware/software updates. Why the hell would I want a system like this. when I have every other gaming system to spend my money on? What is the REAL benefit here?
I love my XBox 360

LMAO quote of the century right there. Makes me want to start bumping the comprehensive lists of sony lies posts from earlier this year.
To think any of these companies think of you any further then your wallet is your first mistake.
Dude you come here for us to encourage you to buy a PS3?
Since you claim you've been "burned" by Sony for a decade hardware wise yet for some awkward bizzar reason purchased a 360...
Obviously only you can do your own math.
I have been burnt, for almost 10 years now by the PS2, and even before that... it was with the Walkman, the Discman, a number of DVD players, HDTV, and a Shelf System all branded by Sony. Since I have dropped out of the Sony side of the console wars, I keep finding myself looking for a REAL reason to buy the PS3 or even a PSP.
So I turn to the loyal fanboys of Sony in search of a REAL legitimate reason to go through with buying a PS3 or PSP over maintaining speed on building their competitions business. Now keep in mind, I am WELL aware of what Sony has to offer across these two platforms and their connectivity between each other, but am looking for serious reasons to give them another shot.
They have ditched backwards compatability, their console STILL costs too much, and they are STILL having serious issues with their firmware/software updates. Why the hell would I want a system like this. when I have every other gaming system to spend my money on? What is the REAL benefit here?
I love my XBox 360 and my Wii, so tell me WHY I should have PS3 in my collection...

You have a 360, why waste money on a ps3 too... they are almsot the same thing, except you bought the superior one already...

stop all companies want to make profit, u need to stop seriously
about the backwards compatibility thing, I see that alot of people keep getting upset over it but when the 60&80gig was out not many people gave a rats ass...btw if you dont want it dont get it...dont be so insecure about your purchasetiger35010
it's not that I don't want to get one, I really do, but I am just too worried that it will behave just like my PS2 did... I.e. stop reading certain versions of PS3 games down the line as the PS2 refuses to read the indigo surfaced ones (such as ssx, shox, and the like) and also, I am affraid that if I go online, start chatting, that people are going to flame the hell out of me because I might say something like "Man I can't wait til Gears of War 2 comes out"
You are mad at sony about hardware failures but you got a 360?Blackification
as ironic as that sounds, no I am not "mad" per se at Sony because of their hardware failures... And when I got a 360, Sony was still promising us that the KillZone 2 video was "real in-game" footage.

True and as shamless as you all might say it to be, I am on my 3rd 360... And my living room will see probably a 6th, 7th, all the way to 10th if it has to because for one, I am not paying for it, microsoft is, and two: their customer service has treated me rather well since the XBox first came out...

Looks like you just want to start a flame war. I'm sure people could list quite a few reasons, but you already know the benefits. You seem well informed enough. You're probably waiting for someone to give you a reason so that you have reason to argue. You obviously don't want a ps3 and will never buy one, so why bother?
And you obviously jump to the defensive too quick, assuming too much way too soon. Granted I will give you that it is a rather pretentious thing to bring up, but no, in all honesty, I am here to see what people who are truly passionate about the PS3 have to say. Not the overwhelmingly annoying fanboys, but the mature gamers who just so happen to be happy with the PS3 and respect their competitors as just that. I do not flame people for being any certain way, other than rediculous. Here let me give you an example....
Sony Fan: Yo man, how's it going?
Nintendo and Xbox Fan: not bad, just playing Halo 3, you?
Sony Fan: Halo 3 sucks, why the hell would you want to play such a poser game on that piece of crap console?
That is about par for the way most conversations go when talking to someone who is more FOR Sony, than anyone else... Nothing hostile, just honesty. Sure, there are just as many Microsoft, Nintendo and PC fanboys out there who are all acting like retards put in a demolition derby, but again, I am not one of those people. What I MIGHT do, however is compare the two consoles (or three) if I was really asked to, but I will never say one is better than the other.

No by software he means the OS updates, BC etc not the games. But then again everyone knows PS3 has the weakest library this gen hands down. 360 HAD the least reliable hardware but RROD is not so bad anymore PLUS MS pays for it. Does SONY pay if you get YLOD? No they charge you 160 dollars for repair. 360 still has a more powerful GPU and more system memmory. It has the best FPS, JRPGS, WRPG's and third person games. Cell's seven cores are not only nearly impossible to program for they are also not practical for gaming uses which in a gaming machine is just sad. Blu Ray is no longer a deal either because there are players out that cost less then PS3 and that price will keep dropping.wait till next year like in the middle of the year to get a ps3 cause by then most likely more good exclusives come out for it and by then that when i think a ps3 will be worth my money about the backward compability why dont u just keep your ps2 thats what im doing i still play my ps2 and if u do wait the good games the ps3 has now will be like $20 and then u could come home wit like 50 games:D
feli453
very true, I mean I did that with my original xbox when the 360 was said to have "limited" BC through software emulation, but in the case of my PS2... I can't even experience some of the 1st gen and 2nd gen games that came out because my PS2 refuses to read blue discs...
Thanks for the good point! :D

Now this comment, I could argue with minimal effort. I won't get out of hand, but I will say that if Sony really cares about me, then why did they charge me $149 plus shipping to not only repair my console, but be sent a refurbished one about 6 months after the console came out when I bought it in the 5th month of it's life... $149 plus shipping if it was outside of the 90 day warranty... that was over HALF what the thing cost me to begin with. Not only that, but they accused me over the phone for about 2 hours for tampering with the system, because SURELY it was user error on my part...
Maybe they DO lose a certain amount per console they make, but that is the risk they were willing to take, as did OTHER companies when getting their new console out. No offense intended, but you make it sound like they are doing me a favor or that they might as well be giving it to me for free...

Saying 360 has better games is a matter of opinion( although lets face it most agree it does), however, what I said about the hardware is a fact.
i don't think he canwait How did you not like the ps2???? Um okay the ps3 Has good exclusives like Resistance and Little big planet and is still the cheapest Blu-ray player out there.
And The FREE online means that over only 2 years it is cheaper than buyin a 36o. There are no issues with Firmware updates, where did you get that from? And the large Harddrive means you can get full games like Siren blood curse (Which is awesome BTW) over the playstation store. Oh and have fun with RRoD
BAM!! suck on that
joe kickass
As for me, i love the 360 but i won't buy it mostly because of the fact that you get charged to play online. There are also some little reasons like MS trying to nickel and dime you here and there.
As i am always on a limited budget, i'ld rather pay more now and get a lot of features on a piece of hardware rather than paying less for one that i feel i might need to update in the future. So the ps3 has been the best system for me. That thing seems to be able to do everything!!!

Alright if thats the game you want to play then here:
The Ps3 offers some of the finest hardware out this gen. Not only because it doesnt break down every so often like the 360(which Im sure your on your 5th maybe 6th one) but also because it offers much more then just a gameing experience. with bluray being the format winner and as well as the power to download moive via Playstation Network its easy to see why the PS3 is something for the whole family to enjoy.
Now with that aside lets talk about the GAMES!!! obviouslly if you are interested in a PS3 you are a gamer looking for games to satisfy your craving. Well not only does the PS3 offer great hits like GTA4,CoD4, Assassians Creed, Orange Box and Bioshock, the PS3 also offers the criticlly aclaimed MGS4 exclusive to the PS3 and praised by sites like Gamespot and IGN alike. You might also enjoy some other popular exclusives like Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank as well as Motorstorm.
Now of course in this day and age gamers want online. While PSN is fresh and not as popular as live its a growing community ready to burst thanks to the upcoming HOME! PSN is also getting the exclusive Little Big Planet where players can create there own content and share it via online. Also recentlly announced trophies offer players the ability to show their skills much like live achivements on XBL, thus prooving to their friends they are number one!
The PS3 offers quality gameing and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy...
DID THAT WORK FOR YOU?
Saying 360 has better games is a matter of opinion( although lets face it most agree it does), however, what I said about the hardware is a fact.

A persons taste in gameing is a matter of opinion. I could just as easly say the 360 has a weak library but that is my opinion alone.
Your right though, the 360 is substancially weaker then the PS3 in terms of hardware(and the TC is a hypicrit for saying sony has faulty hardware yet he supports the 360).articles of RROD are all over the internet, and forum pages about this have been spawned all over then net, to the point were I shouldnt need a link. As for a cheaper blu-ray player...got a link? Your making random claims without anyback up...

madisonsuicide
though it is quite obvious you are going for flame ...i still find myself quite curious how sony burned you on your
ps2 (the ps3 i can see an argument for but the ps2?)
the walkman??? are you kidding? what you got mad cause you only had 8-tracks and it wouldn't play them?
and then a discman? really they all skipped at first, then got ok and became too cheap to even think about a brand...
so how did you get so burned? start by explaining the walkman since that is the oldest one.
Again, friend, flaming is not entertaining as far as I am concerned... but as you requested, I will answer your questions..
I have gone through 9 total PS2 systems, counting the Slim Line as well. Each console I bought was either defective in some way or another, or ended up that way conveniently outside of the warranty. Upon purchase of the extended warranties that Sony offered, they still managed to deem my console "outside of the warranty coverage" with the fact that MANY of my DVD's wouldn't be read (and yes they were all store-bought), the motor in the optical drive would burn out. The powersupply would short out due to what one Sony rep described as "having too much plugged into the console at once" (which, so you know, consisted of the harddrive that came with FFXI, a multitap for the controllers, 4 controllers for playing on madden, 4 memory cards, and two of the Madden headsets that went along with the later football games, and the broadband adapter). I currently still own one of the first PS2's that came out, and have to disassemble it and clean and realign the lense each time I want to play SSX.
The walkman, which almost saw typical chaos of devices that used magnetic "tape" to store media, chewed threw countless audio tapes that I enjoyed immensly. This also joined the "just outside of the 90 day warranty" phenomena.
My Discman, which I agree, none of them had anti-skip protection when they came out, but I bought this thing when the iPod was in it's 2nd generation, when Anti-Skip was standard with at least 20 seconds... both of the 2 Discman's I bought just would not read discs at all, even if the unit was sitting perfectly still on a table and the cd's were brand new, out of the package.
My Sony Bravia HDTV... RIP, I only put up with this once. I never used it for more than 2 or three hours at a time when I first got it, until one night I came home from work, absolutely exhausted, and put it a dvd then promptly fell asleep. When I woke up, the dvd player had long since turned off, but I noticed that the DVD menu had burned into the screen. When the Sony Bravia is known for it's STRICT avoidance of this danger.
The Shelf System was blown the moment I turned it on, and beings as that moment was in the middle of the night when I first got it, and my mom and dad were both asleep, I certainly didn't have it up loud enough to justify blowing it.
Now there you have it, my experiences with the name Sony. Not mentioning the countless dollars spent as well as hours on trying to get these popular items back into working condition.

Companies like to make money I know it is a crazy concept for some. Do not be mad at MS because Sony has lost $3.32 billion at least so far on the PS3.

Edit: Oh wait..that was in 2005...so..I wonder what the damage is now...let me look it up.
Go ahead and look it up. MS is making money now  MS is in the black and that even includes the money they lost when the extended the 360 warranties.Little known fact here... Microsoft didn't see a penny off of the first XBox all the way into the second year of the 360's life cycle. They only started making money off their consoles when the Elite came out

We have good reason to suspect flamebait. When someone says, "Why the hell would I want a system like this." What could we possibly say that would change your mind? Perhaps try a post with fewer CAPITAL LETTERS and swear words. You should ask "Why do you think the ps3 is a great console?" instead of "I really really don't want to buy this... it's useless...Sony is terribble........ Now that I expressed my extreme hate, give me a reason to buy one."
If you really want a reason to buy a ps3, look at the exclusive games, even the ones no out yet. MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, God of War... the list goes on. The hardware is sold at a good price too. If you need a Blu ray player, the ability to play games comes practically free.
[QUOTE="rybe1025"][QUOTE="verbtex"][QUOTE="ChrnoTrigger"][QUOTE="rybe1025"]You actually made some good points this time, but what MS does is worse than Sony IMO. Sony sees it's market in the future and are willing to take the loss for now, while MS has been screwing us for some time now.
I mean c'mon, you get free online, blu-ray and wi-fi for $50 more. The only thing that's lacking atm is the games for the PS3. But that could change by the end of this year.
I just hope MS releases a new SKU for the current price with better hardware and wi-fi >_> Right now I have a long ethernet cable connecting my router to the 360.
ChrnoTrigger
What I don't understand is how you can say that Sony is really as future oriented as they claim? There is NO way that the system will last 10 years at full pace. Even the PS2 audience has dwindled because they "feel" that they have to go with the newer console. Granted, the Cell processor delivers the most promise in saying that it will, but the RSX GPU is based off of hardware that was supposed to be top notch for the time. From a PC games standpoint, both XBox 360 and PS3 will die out as soon as the other two did because they are locked at achieving the HIGHEST quality of Direct X 9 graphics. But will you ever see Crysis on PS3, let alone 360? nope...
