I think it is because Nintendo did not do so well with the GameCube and that people don't like the fact that Nintendo went after casual gamers and non-gamers and did not gear the Wii to be a high graphics system.

This is just my opinion though.

That is because it is low price and some people just think that since it is cheap, there must be something bad about the wii being hidden. Also at the time, people believe there is not such a great line up of games in sight

It's more than just graphics.  If Nintendo has their way, games like Cooking Mama, and Wario Ware will become the norm.  Thus killing off the market for actual games worth playing like Gears of War, Halo, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, God of War, etc.

well, one reason for me would be that it appeals to casuals. casuals, by definition, should be pretty flaky when it comes to sticking with a console. because of that, theres no reason to expect they'll continue buying games and the wii fad could wear off. it might not happen, but it has a greater chance of happening with wii.

Now that's a ridiculous statement. At the moment, yes, they are targeting the casual crowd, but no console has ever won without this demographic. If they can continue their pattern of bringing in people that do not play games, the floodgates will open, and developers will want to put their content on the Wii, especially when casuals realize they've been playing casual games. They will want something more.

They're afraid it will magically destroy gaming as we know it, even though there's not a bit of logic behind that argument. The truth is, they are threatened by change. It's only human.

Those who think there is a drought are the ones who buy like 8 games total for their wii over the systems lifetime.  Branch out a little, AA games are OKAY to buy!  You know that right?

They doubt Wii because it's graphics and processing speed equals to a Pentium II (or at worst Pentium), and its graphics is just like the XBOX. However, the Wii is fun, and I hope it surpasses the XBOX 360. gnutux

to expand your list...

zelda, mario, metroid, brawl, no more heroes, disater, saddness, project hammer, RE... the list of incredible games coming to wii goes on and on and on, and once devs stat seeing wiis massive success, theyll want to put games on it. inebidenly, the wii will end up with a GTA, MGS, and so much more. seriously, nintendo is not all kiddy. get over the fact that shooters and blood baths arent the only games worth owning.

The Wii's message is basically this:  "Gaming is dying, so instead of doing what console makers have always done we're going to be the complete opposite.  By doing that, we're going to save gaming."

Who wouldn't be skeptical of that?  Wouldn't you be skeptical if someone said "Eating through your mouth is over-rated, from now on you should eat food in the other direction."

I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in the games coming out in Q3 2007: which mainly consisted of licensed garbage.

Who's being Ridiculous? If somebody is a non-gamer it's for a reason, they were never interested in games, so why the hell after playing Cooking Mama or Wii Sports would they all the sudden be interested in Metal Gear Solid? They wouldn't be.

you do realise that cooking mama, wii sports, and warioware arent the only games in the wiis library. as we speak, im playing CoD3 for wii. and casuals are gonna play games like, red steel, and sonic, and excite truck. then their gonna realise that there are better games of the same genre, then, their friends are gonna introduce them to more genres, and they will have gone from casual games, to zelda, no more heroes, metroid, and much more. plus, every casual likes shooters, which are going to be huge on wii.

Talk about wishful thinking, if somebody never cared about RE or Metroid before, they won't now.  And I've yet to see how FPS are done better on Wii than 360.

Why do you say that?  So far, the Wii's controller hasn't exactly proven to be "revolutionary" for FPS's.  And besides, the FPS genre has always had a huge focus on graphics.  And I don't the Wii is the console to develop for if you want to focus on graphics.

it can't really flop. Something can't just suddenly flop, it has to come out and flop pretty much right after that. You could say halo 2 will flop by q4 07 because people will be done with it. ya know?

GTA appeals to non-gamers much moe than gamers. MGS:TS was on GC, and was incredible. plus, snake is in brawl. i will not be surprised if a MGS game is announced for wii in the next 2 yeas. kojima will think of exelent things to do with motions, because kojima is a brilliant man.

Right on the money.  Nobody in their right mind would say the Wii will be the console to get for FPS.  At least not for now anyway.

They will want something more.

Who's being Ridiculous? If somebody is a non-gamer it's for a reason, they were never interested in games, so why the hell after playing Cooking Mama or Wii Sports would they all the sudden be interested in Metal Gear Solid? They wouldn't be.

Because non-gamer is an extremly misleading term. Non-gamers have laways been playing games. They have just been playing games on consoles.

[QUOTE="HappySunnGuy"] plus, every casual likes shooters, which are going to be huge on wii.

Why do you say that? So far, the Wii's controller hasn't exactly proven to be "revolutionary" for FPS's. And besides, the FPS genre has always had a huge focus on graphics. And I don't the Wii is the console to develop for if you want to focus on graphics.

have you tried a wii shooter? my brother has only ever played one wii shooter: red steel. it is now his fgavourite game of all time. wii shooters are incredible, despite the learning curve. now me and him have headshot fests in red steel with the pistol cause were both so amazing at it, and its really fun.

It's more than just graphics. If Nintendo has their way, games like Cooking Mama, and Wario Ware will become the norm. Thus killing off the market for actual games worth playing like Gears of War, Halo, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, God of War, etc.

My point still stands,  even if these non-gamers like the grandparents, and mothers of the world that Nintendo is trying to appeal to, have played games, they're not the type who are going to run out and buy Resident Evil 5 just because they enjoy Cooking Mama.

Teufelhuhn
How about: "Bringing some fresh air in the gaming industry by creating a new way to interact and play games and expending the market."

I think that's the real message.

I dont own a DS and I dont have any intention of owning one, just like the Wii. Wii is cheap and you dont need a HDTV, its gonna be successful. I just dont like the Wii.

Well your message is basically the same as mine, just phrased a whole lot nicer.  :P

Anyway the point still stands:  they have a new way of interacting, why shouldn't we be skeptical?  I mean that's great and all if everythings pans out, but until then I see no reason not to be hesitant about a console that does everything differently than the other two.

Right on the money. Nobody in their right mind would say the Wii will be the console to get for FPS. At least not for now anyway.

go out and try a wii shooter. once you get used to the aiming, their so much more fun and immersive than any 360 or xbox shooter ive played.

to expand your list...

zelda, mario, metroid, brawl, no more heroes, disater, saddness, project hammer, RE... the list of incredible games coming to wii goes on and on and on, and once devs stat seeing wiis massive success, theyll want to put games on it. inebidenly, the wii will end up with a GTA, MGS, and so much more. seriously, nintendo is not all kiddy. get over the fact that shooters and blood baths arent the only games worth owning.

Nintendo doesn't want MGS and GTA on their platform, those games appeal to gamers, they want to appeal to non-gamers.

Yea because Zelda, RE, Metroid, Mario, and SSBB are casual games right?

Yeah, and its pretty hokey.  Sure, you're precise when aiming at someone that's already in your field of view.  But actually maneuvering and getting someone into your field of view is another story. In the end, I'm much better with a KB+M or even a normal controller.  That's fine if you enjoy it more, but from what I've read the critics seem to agree with me.

Yes it is. A company, especially one like Capcom would waste no time abondanding RE or DMC in favor of a Nintendogs or Cooking Mama clone.  If it means more money.

I've played and beaten Red Steel. F.E.A.R. on Xbox360 is better, Rainbow Six: Vegas is better, Halo 1 and 2 are certainly better, hell even Perfect Dark Zero is on par, maybe a bit better. And Halo 3 will obliterate it. Once you get past the novelty of the Wii remote, you realize what an average FPS this game is.
