Well its all speculation so far but quad core would be decent in combination with some powerfull GPU. That could give FPS genre a punch with Wii controls (which are my favourite for FPS - more precise than joypad, more comfortable than mouse + keyboard and more involving than anything).

edit: added more source links

How legit is this source? I know Nintendo will have to move forward soon, but using a Quad-Core? PC games these days barely use Duo-Core.

It's better to use this source, that other article doesn't give enough info.

Anyway, i don't know what to say, that entire article is based on this article made on ZeldaInformer.com.

It's possible for a announcement at the 2011 E3, and then a launch date in middle or late 2012. A console's usual cycle is 5-6 years, ben so for decades, and were already full in 5 years, and close to 6. So yeah, very possible, but rumours sometimes are bull****, so i would not get my hopes up.

The soon release and promotion of 3DS is underway, and the fact that the Wii is currently #1 in the console sales race means they shouldn't have to rush getting the next one out the door, and now that a serious tragedy hit their country, now might not be a good time for them to release any new hardware that hasn't been previously announced.

Unbelievable... Nintendo goes down the weaker path for the first time with the Wii, and then they have to put up with ignorant gamers with ignorant comments... There shouldn't be any surprise that Nintendo could compete next gen, hardware wise; they have done it plenty of times in the past.

No need to call me ignorant. They've been using the same hardware since 2001 dude, calm down. And the Nintendo DS has hardware from 1996.

GeneralShowzer

so? they will only be fighting for second place anyway, as the PC will beat them all.

I care more about them improving the motion controls, and delivering some solid first party titles again. I would also like some more 3rd party unique experiences, I don't care about having the same multiplat game on all the systems I own, I want something different.

If the Wii launches soon, what makes you think the siltation will be any different than today? Inferior hardware, no third party support..

Just because they may use a quad core does'nt say the hardware will compete with the other consoles next gen. It could be a quad core running at 1.0GHZ for all we know, and the GPU could very well be a small upgrade from the PS3 and X360.

Let's just wait and see, I'm hoping Nintendo will go for power this time.

WTH would they do with a bunch more power ? I mean, it's just for teh shinier graphics is all right ? Again I mean the Wii could continue to pump out AAAAE & AAAE's for the rest of the century and at the end still have the best most fun games and any extra power won't make the games better, no, no but only serve to make the same games shinier is all.

Pfft "N" you need no more than what the current Wii HW offers, perhaps come out with motion control foot pedals and the fans will eat it up no matter what.

Anyhoo, sure hope they do once again ( now that they accumulated mountains of ummmmm, over-profits, ) make a system to at least match the others next gen systems and then maybe unlike this gen., your asking price for the console may seem worth the money.

Go for a real monster of a machine with a whole lotta bang for the buck Nintendo and I'll have your back - promise. :)

speculation =/= leaked Im sorry but the thread title was quite misleading.

but on topic: having a quad core would be nice, but really not necissary for a game console. It makes me wonder if the direction game consoles are headed, if they should instead be considered pc's, albeit a very closed system pc/

Hardware doesn't matter, the games will always be the same, kiddy and not intresting to me, I would better stick with MS and Sony, but it's intresting to see how this huge transation will work.

Well the first XBOX was basically a PC in a box, but I bet Nintendo will know better than that and it will use some custom chipset based on quad-core.

Btw its not that much - in terms of MFLOPS, CELL is a bit more powerfull than QUAD CORE. QUAD CORE power will be easier for devs to use and the next Wii will hopefully have much more powerful GPU than PS3.

LOL! True. I don't see how anyone can get hyped for them going quad core next time. I wouldn't be surprised if both Sony and MS will go quad core aswell this time around. No reason to have the 'anomaly' cpu which no one wants to use as lead development. No reason to have hexa-core or octa-core CPUs yet. Well not unless Rockstar refuses to optimize the physics (Euphoria) engine on their GTA games.

No way would nintendo include a bluray drive. They refused to use CD's on gamecube and the Wii doesn't play DVD's.

its too bad this is just speculation. Though it is possible that the Wii to will have such a proccessor. Personally it doesnt matter to me if the Wii2 is much of an improvement with graphics over the Wii, just as long as the motion controls are awesome.

Im expecting WiiMote + nunchuck solution again, but with tweaked ergonomics, more usable buttons and maybe even analog on the remote (2 analogs total), which could propose some very interesting control solutions. Also fullHD and 3D support is a must this time, so there is no doubt it will have to have a powerful hardware.

360 doesnt have neither 3D capability nor true fullHD games, so my bet is the next Wii will bii a lot more powerful than that.

Nintendo only slipped behind in terms of power in this generation, other than that, Nintendo consoles were always hi-tech (N64 being the most powerful of its generation and GC being more powerful than PS2 and only slightly less powerfull than XBOX), besides that Ninty can now afford to completely throw away Gamecube HW design (which is largery used by Wii) and start again from scrap, so I believe they will design something truly great. That combined with the fact that MS and Sony will not be able to come with next gen console until at least 2013 imho guarantees Nintando another epic win 8)

I'm guessing it'll be announced next year at the earliest with a release the following year. Nintendo want's to keep the decks clear for the 3DS, and there's still a lot of unrealized potential left in the Wii.

Well there is some real basis behind every speculation, the question is WHEN will Nintendo announce its official specs.

The QUAD CORE would be no surprise at all. Many people from the hardware business confirm that certain statements and deals signed hint that Nintendo really could be ordering large supply of custom QUAD CORE chipsets in near future.

F-Zero's speed blew my mind on the Snes. Wave Race 64's water effects and physics amazed me. Star Wars Rogue Leader on the Gamecube had a similar effect, looked just like the movies.

Nintendo used to turn heads and raise the bar every generation. The 3DS is a massive upgrade over last gens handheld hardware and I just hope the Wii 2 will be the same, return to the good old days.

' It will be as powerful as the 360 but that's it. They won't spend more than they have to. This is Nintendo after all.

Nintendo has a new model. N64 and Gamecube got them last place. Haven't the best graphics means nada when it comes to sales. If the 3DS is any indication we will continue to see a slight reworking of "just good enough" graphics with 3D and motion. Wii2 graphics will be...just good enough...but nothing better than the PS3.

These aren't real. We still don't have the "official specs" from the Wii from Nintendo.

BlbecekBobecek

Well there is some real basis behind every speculation, the question is WHEN will Nintendo announce its official specs.

The QUAD CORE would be no surprise at all. Many people from the hardware business confirm that certain statements and deals signed hint that Nintendo really could be ordering large supply of custom QUAD CORE chipsets in near future.

But he is dead on in what he said and one of my pet peeves about "n" especially when some around here try to say Wii = Xbox yet "n" won't ever "officially" release the specs - wonder why ? :P
