[QUOTE="TDLlama"]Not everyone wants to play Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, you know.ogvampire

No but you also don't have to buy a game like that, that costs more than an average game and ruins your eyes while doing holahoops.

huh? still dont understand what youre babblin about

Ok, I'll try it another way. You see, Halo 3 and CoD 4 are called games while Wii Fit is not so much a game, it's kinda like a very dumb simulator (holahoops, push-ups and so on). So while actually doing the real thing, people actually buy this to do these simple things in front of a TV. Now I know that ski-jumping is in Wii Fit too and doing it for real isn't easy and cheap. So such a thing would be nice in a game collection in case if it had any real depth unlike the Wii Fit version where you just lift your feet off the platform.

Small mini-game collections, great fun for a while but you can't really say that about Wii Fit.

[QUOTE="kaangonultas"]Seriously what the hell is wrong with these people. If you want to lose weight get out of the house and run. ogvampire

does that sound fun? no

WiiFit is trying to make exercising fun.

why play Guitar Hero? go out and get a real guitar.

silly argument

yes it is fun . Playing soccer , tennis... is fun and it is definately more fun than doing retarded moves in front of your TV which will not get you fit.

so whats the problem then? why are you complaining about people doing what they want with their money?

if they want to buy WiiFit and do that stuff, then fine. if they dont, then fine.

regarding bolded statement: retard moves? oh.. you mean exercise. i can see you probably never did that so i dont expect for you to understand

I am an amatuer football player , and by your statement saying exercise is not fun i think your the one who never does exercise.

you need to separate exercise from sports. exercise is not fun, sports are fun. see the difference?

you think that people that go to the gym to workout or do threadmil are having fun?

Why? It is the best way of exercise and definately better than Wii fit. And i'm sure wiifit will not make you fit. People who can't be bothered with sport won't be bothered with wiifit 's ultra special moves

because exercise and sports ARE different things. doing push-ups is an exercise, its not a sport.

When you do sport guess what you do at the same time???? That's right , you do exercisssse . And sports is the most fun way to do exercissssse. Certainly more fun than wiifit.

dude. they go hand in hand, but they arent mutually exclusive.

when i go to the gym to lift weights, what sport am i playing? nothing, its called exercise.

people that take aerobics, what sport are they playing? nothing, its called exercise

Sports like basketball , football are the most fun way to do exercise. Although it's early to talk but i believe that wiifit will be just a money trap for the casuals.

Yea, I know... Who would want titles like Super Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros. Brawl? Isn't it ridiculous? Who would want the market to expand and give developers even more incentive to be innovative and fresh with their new IPs? Silly sheep... /sarcasm

It's hard for people to willingly and consistently do something that requires a lot of energy, especially if the results they are looking for take a lot of time to achieve. To help make the experience more bearable, gyms have TVs and music to provide a focal point for people while they exercise so they don't have to concentrate on the repetitive and exhausting activity that they're doing. People bring their own personal MP3 players for the same reason. WiiFit and the Balance Board can potentially serve the same function. If someone has a specific and immediate goal to accomplish, and they enjoy playing games, WiiFit can provide an entertaining diversion as well as a platform for excercise. Obviously it'll take some time, but I don't see why the game can't help someone wanting to get into better shape.

Its not off topic. Thats fine if you use it to enhance your already active life. I think you would be in the minority.

Imaginary hoola hoops are just plain silly anyway.

so, genius, what stopped these people from doing the actual thing before?

plus you said it yourself, it has ski-jumping. that sounds like a videogame to me.

How could something like this exist. It's a disgrace to gaming and shows that people should just watch TV all day and THINK they're exercising when they really just leaning side to side. This is a big step back for the gaming industry.

The only thing here that is a disgrace to gaming are people like you who bash the idea of trying something new. If it turns out to be bad, then fine but God forbid they should try something a little different then holding a controller in your hands and pressing buttons.

No, it's the biggest step FORWARD since WiiSports, and WiiSports was the biggest step forward since Pong. Hardcore gamers like you who bash it are like action movie junkies who wish that Hollywood should only make, well, action movies.

Wii sports is the reason i got a Wii but honestly Wiifit is going too far. If i want to exercise i'll go outside and run around, we don't really need some elaborate condecending aerobics video telling us what to do for $150. The Wii is meant to be for escapism and entertainment, i just can't see what anybody would get from a game simulating mundane exercises that could be done for free.

Yeah i know there are sports simulations, but how many poeple can be part of a club and play every week? let alone play for a pro team, at least sports games let you have that.

WiiFit isn't for exercise, it's for monitoring. Sure, you can exercise, but WiiFit provides detailed and helpful tools that you would otherwise have to create yourself (tracking graphs, comparisons, etc.). Exercise alone does no one any good unless the exerciser goes overboard with his workouts. Most people WANT to get fit, but most people can't be bothered with taking the time to track themselves getting fit. WiiFit does it for them. It lets them see their results in real-time, and with no more effort than it takes to change a TV channel.

Just as an analogous example, take hybrid cars. Part of the reason they help people save so much gas is because most hybrid cars have built-in mileage monitoring capabilities built right into the dashboard. Having that kind of at-your-fingertips, instant feedback goes a LONG way towards motivating you to keep up your positive momentum.

Really? Running doesn't help your heart and your entire cardiovascular system unless you run a marathon everyday? Lifting weights doesn't make you any stronger unless your benching 350 lbs?

You must not work out obviously. There is no way this can be considered exercise. Its moving around but its not exercise. And there are a ton of programs that are cheaper that help you keep track of your progess and actually provide results.

I'm just glad I'm not in the shape that is needed for me to think that wiifit is "exercise"...

Who is wiifit targeted at?

I have hobbies that keep me fit. If I didnt I would just exercise for a few minutes a day while i watch tv. Supersetting basic exercises for 5 minutes can give you a great workout.

wiifit is targeted at an older audience. check out some of the commercials from japan

regarding second bolded statement: great workout? no, youre only getting mininal exercise if you only do it for 5 minutes.

go ask trainers at a gym and they will laugh at you if you tell them that you get "great" exercise from doing just 5 minutes of supersets.

[QUOTE="ChinoJamesKeene"][QUOTE="mjarantilla"]First, read my edit.

Second, you can do your taxes without help, too, but most people still buy TurboTax because it takes away the hassle. It's not about being weak-minded, it's just about being inconvenienced. If you want to see REAL progress, you NEED feedback. Sure, you can do your thirty minute walk every day and HOPE you're making progress, but WiiFit SHOWS you your progress.

THAT is what you keep ignoring. You havent' "addressed" anything. You've been IGNORING everything because you keep thinking that WiiFit is supposed to REPLACE exercise. It's NOT. It's supposed to make exercise EASIER by removing the tedium of progress logging. Is that a BAD thing? Because it's just about the only product out there that actually does it (the Nike+iPod dongle does it, too, but only for jogging).

mjarantilla

Well, I'm sorry if that what you think Im saying but im not ignoring your point. It your body, i don't think its fair to compare it to a tax return. It may hold some value for poeple, fair enough but i just figure since it's your health the feedback should be apparent and you should probably be exercising with some goal in mind. I'll just leave it at that.

Except the feedback is NOT apparent. That seems to be the point you keep on missing. If the feedback was so apparent, obesity wouldn't be nearly as big of a problem as it is now. And of COURSE you should be exercising with a goal. That is EXACTLY what WiiFit is supposed to help with. Keeping continuous and ACCURATE track of your progress is nearly as important as actually working towards your goal.

I'm only comparing it to a tax return by comparing the role of inconvenience in both problems. You can ignore it all you want, but inconvenience is the biggest reason why people don't exercise, and the fewer inconveniences there are, the more people can get started and the more people will stay on track.

Poeple who treat being fat as a mere inconvenience, how motivated are these poeple in the first place? The benifits you are talking about are a change in attitude and lifestyle. Feedback may not be apparent the moment you stop working but if you make a habit of exercising i doubt you can remain oblivious to the improvement to you health.

I'm curious, exactly what data would Wiifit provide that would immediately encourage players to keep working? (realistically)

(I've got nothing against the obese, I know plenty including family)
