Well... dunno that's kinda funny.... £149 for a 6 months old console.

It's almost same price as old gen Wii...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-02-asda-drops-wii-u-price-to-just-149-199

I hope it's actually for good... might boost Wii U sales

added to the post: One can only assume more retailers will follow...

If you remember we had a bunch of retailers cutting the price on the device earlier, then Nintendo stated that they'll officially cut the price... so they did. This one is a second wave of price cuts.

Just six months ago the Wii U launched at £249/£299 - £100 higher for both models than the new cut price.

Then in March, Asda slashed the Wii U price to £199/£249, a £50 saving. Other retailers quickly followed suit, including Amazon and HMV.Eurogamer

This is just sad... From the mighty N64 to this piece of laughable crap. This should have happened 7 years ago when wii was released because its essentially the same thing the wiiu is to current gen, on par with previous gen with 1 gimmick but they were lucky and casuals saved their asses. Not happening now brah,

wii u is a decent machine and the gamepad is cool but... Sorry Nintendo but the machine isn't a Next Gen console. The hardware isn't a step up from the HD Twins. I have a Wii U and i like it, but I am playing more on my X360 and 3DS because the Wii U lacks the games. I can't wait for zela, pikmin and smash bros to arrive etc but realistically speaking the Wii U is not a next gen machine and was probably released 1-2 years late.

With no official price drop from Nintendo, I wonder how much of a loss are they taking and whether they will stop carrying it once they get rid of their stock.

This shouldn't be making consumers who already bought it sad, just angry. At least it doesn't appear like nintendo had any hand in this, looks like the retailers doing.

If nintendo drops the wii-us price in the next year I'm never buying another one of their systems in the launch window ever again.....

Any news whether Nintendo of America will follow this path? 200 GBP still equals like 311 USD, and 150 GBP is about 233 USD. Sad to see people paid 300 GBP for a Wii U prior to the drop, that's like 467 USD, that's how much I'd expect a real next gen system to cost.

lol I'll actually wait for it to drop down to 100 and then I'll buy a few of them cause I think this might become the Dreamcast all over again... after a year or two you'll be able to sell the sealed consoles for a good profit.

Most the time retailers are signing contracts with manufacturers which does not allow them to change prices on goods for a certain period of time. But there are also cases when retailers can lower the price to boost their competitiveness. It's pretty tricky and depends on the sector.

But I tend to like this system.... in the end it favours the consumer with "potential" price cuts.

I really feel bad for whoever bought Wii U up to this point. Huge loss of money. On the bright side, maybe Ninty will try to console you by providing you a free stash of N64 games or something, like they did with 3DS.

Didn't with the 3DS. That was the biggest f*** you ever. Most of the games they gave away weren't anywhere close to good. Nintendo literally dropped the price about a month after I got it. I expected a price drop around christmas, but to drop the price that much that quickly was a massive f*** you to early adopters. The fact the games they gave away were all old, mostly terrible games just added salt to the wound. I'm still butthurt about that and it's a big reason I'm waiting a long ass time before getting another Nintendo product again. Wii U needs to be dirt cheap before I even consider getting one.

The GameCube was a mighty console too... and that launched for only £129!

And despite the low price and high power, Nintendo still managed to make a profit on every GameCube sold...

Heck yeah.

Gamestop is doing a $150 trade in for the 360/PS3. I would literally walk right in and swap my 360 even-up for the Wii-U.

As bad as the Wii-U has been failing, I think that would be a brilliant trade just for future Nintendo exclusives alone.

It's not the price that's the problems, it's the shitness of the console. I wouldn't buy Lego, Zombie U and Nintendo Land if they were on PS3/360 so I'm not gonna buy a console just for them and it's not like you're gonna be blown away by the hardware. Maybe Smash Bros can change my mind.

Actually when they dropped the price to $99 they were actually taking loses on each sold and that's why they pretty much abandoned it.

It's their own fault why buy a console with no games out yet? Same thing happened to people who bought the 3DS first you think Nintendo fans would learn.

Misleading, because Nintendo did not drop the price at all, a retailer decided to do it by themselves.
