Sounds like they're just clearing stock. A bit sad that retailers are taking things into their own hands rather than play the waiting game with Nintendo.

Misleading, because Nintendo did not drop the price athttp://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/29386561/wii-u-price-drops-to-just-149199....-so-desperate?page=2#quick_quote all, a retailer decided to do it by themselves.charizard1605It also said Amazon and HMV followed suit. Although this is Europe In North America The Wii U is still ridiculously over priced.

Don't care.
they wanted you to have some money left over for all thoses games.... bwaaaahahahahahahahaha! oh man... i really tried to say that with a straight face.
"all those games"! oh man... i'm such a card!
Misleading, because Nintendo did not drop the price at all, a retailer decided to do it by themselves.charizard1605
One can only assume more retailers will follow...
If you remember we had a bunch of retailers cutting the price on the device earlier, then Nintendo stated that they'll officially cut the price... so they did. This one is a second wave of price cuts.
Just six months ago the Wii U launched at £249/£299 - £100 higher for both models than the new cut price.
Then in March, Asda slashed the Wii U price to £199/£249, a £50 saving. Other retailers quickly followed suit, including Amazon and HMV.Eurogamer
F*ck! FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
Just paid full price for the Deluxe, I dont even think its been a week yet. I could have bought a 3DS as well if I just waited.
[QUOTE="Jag85"][QUOTE="silversix_"]This is just sad... From the mighty N64 to this piece of laughable crap. This should have happened 7 years ago when wii was released because its essentially the same thing the wiiu is to current gen, on par with previous gen with 1 gimmick but they were lucky and casuals saved their asses. Not happening now brah,fernandmondego_
The GameCube was a mighty console too... and that launched for only £129!
And despite the low price and high power, Nintendo still managed to make a profit on every GameCube sold...
Actually when they dropped the price to $99 they were actually taking loses on each sold and that's why they pretty much abandoned it.Yes, but that was only towards the end of the generation, around 2004. And by that point, Nintendo could afford to take a small loss on each GameCube, since they more than made up for it with the huge profits coming in with their handhelds.
On the other hand, the PS2 and especially the Xbox were being sold at a loss almost the entire generation, though the PS2 more than made up for it with its very high software sales, which the Xbox obviously could'nt do.
i can't imagine how the people who just bought it would be feeling after this price cut

Same here as far the WIIU goes, I doubt I'll even buy one no matter what price it isI bought a 3DS at launch cause I couldn't wait. Kinda the same experience. >__< That is why I am now patiently waiting any systems release and then some, to see what I want.F*ck! FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

A price cut would be a step in the right direction. Now if it was only Nintendo dropping the price, and here in the U.S. I might consider it. Well that is if they ever release some good games for it. Zombie U and Lego City are not enough to make me want to buy a Wii-U yet.
I wouldn't even take a Wiiu if someone gave it to me for free.
NathanDrakeSwag
Ye, I props be same, free space has more value than the wii u.
Nintendo didn't drop the price. The retailers did. The retailers are the ones eating the loses, not Nintendo. It's good for Nintendo, but pretty bad for the retailers who are lowering the price.Well... dunno that's kinda funny.... £149 for a 6 months old console.
V3rciS
It's almost same price as old gen Wii...

I hope it's actually for good... might boost Wii U sales

Wont be good for Nintendo when the retailers stop carrying it like they did with the Gamecube.Well... dunno that's kinda funny.... £149 for a 6 months old console.

I wouldn't pay $50 for it. Hell I would rather spend even $50 for getting new games or fixing my YLOD PS3 than a failed console with no games. I like even Wii better than this.

I was about to comment how this is the fastest price drop for a modern system. Then I saw it was just 1 retail outlet, not Nintendo's action.
Not good if they are slashing the price at retail just to move units this early. The numbers must be horrible for a chain to eat that kind loss of cut. Retail did the same thing on the dreamcast when sega was doing bad.

At least those early adopters got a cutting edge BluRay player. Wii U is pretty worthless right now so not a good comparison.
It's in their own hands anyway Nintendo never gave them a price to sell at.Sounds like they're just clearing stock. A bit sad that retailers are taking things into their own hands rather than play the waiting game with Nintendo.

That was only after Sega announced they were exiting the console hardware business. Before that, the Dreamcast was actually selling quite well (even outselling the PS2 in North America during the year 2000), but just not enough to make up for Sega's losses over the years.
