Will a 100 pound price cut help put PS3 in front of 360 WW in the coming months?

Ok so lets say that a price drop is coming and it's gonna be £100, and I expect MS will retaliate as well with it's price cut but do you think the demand for the PS3 system plus the price cut will help put PS3 in front of 360 WW in the coming months? We all know how much the last price cut helped and this one will put PS3 in the sweet spot price where it becomes an affordable system for the average gamer. PS2 achieved most of it sales when it dropped to £200 so do you think coming off from the success of PS1&2, will the PS3 sell enough with a £100 price cut to pull ahead of the 360 WW or will it not happen any time soon?

Im speaking of monthly sales ofcourse

I recall hearing Sony cut the manufacturing cost by 70%, so they can afford such a cut. Im not saying they will in this thread Im just hypthetically they do and I just want to know from gamers how will it help Sony?

My answer is no, i dont think the PS3 will overtake the 360 in a matter of months. That really is fanboy dreaming for you right there. Of course im guessing deep down you're disagreeing with my answer because you'd love to see it overtake the 360 and all of a sudden start caring about sales again.

Monthly sales, I dont expect it to overtake overal 360 sales but can it outsell 360 in a monthly basis, that's what I meant. Dude it's SW, if it's not exclusives its the sales that drive SW. I certainly dont care whether PS3 stays in last position or not.

I fully expect PS3 to get a drastic increase in demand in the UK if it got the rumoured £85 price cut. Even better, would be the reinstating of BC.

Just from my experience, there are a lot of people holding off on PS3's because of price, and the lack of BC. If Sony were to release a £200 bundle with at least one high profile game, and BC reinstated, they'd sell the system in droves.

it also outsold the 360 WW the entire year of 07. the PS3 should not even exist right now with all the advantages the 360 has over it, and while the 360s monthly leads are so tiny, remember that the PS3 is still the only console outside of the mass market price window ($200-$300). if they were the same price the NPDs would easily double that of the 360s

I don't know, its not like sony exists in its own market. MS can respond rather easily to any price cut Sony provides and in a pricing war MS has the upper hand. I'm not saying the MS price cut would under cut Sony's sales, just boost xbox sales to where things will not have changed much. Really I don't know but we'lll see. The PS3 has the software to do it but does it have the appeal out of the box?

And I guess every PS3 owner gets a cookie it outsells the 360? I don't see any other reason for caring.

sales would definately improve, but not to the point that it'd sell ten million more than the 360 in a year. not even close. andm microsoft has much more room for price cuts than then the ps3 ever will

in terms of support there would be no effect. the ps3 is the most fail console this gen and one of the biggest failures of all time. developers aren't going to be very keen to develop on it if it slightly increases its marketshare. distant third is still distant third

yes an 8 million lead is pretty distant when your crappy console has only sold about 20 million and we're three years into the gen i know the ps3 slim is real, i was the first person on here to come up with proof.

i'm also not dumb enough to think they'll be able to reduce the price by 100 dollars on top of having a smaller form factor

It very well could but it also seems that MS is ready to counter with there own price cuts so I doubt the gap will even start to close.

Its going to help the PS3 no doubt but MS is in a prime position to counter the price drop with ease. My guess would be that if PS3 drops price so will 360 and both will benifit from increased sales thus resulting in the PS3 not gaining any headway at all. I wish Sony could get GT5 out with the price drop but I don't think that game is coming out in 2009 Polydigital are the slugs of game development.

All of a sudden though there are like dozens upon dozens of threads talking about price drops, to sales, to marketshare ect. After the NBP I thought that the PS3 fans didn't care about sales? Guess every faction cares about sales.

As a gamer who already has a 360 and didn't want to drop $400 on another console, I'd be really excited if the PS3's US price cut was something like the UK and got the console down to $299. If not, I'll probably just wait until holiday season 2010...

and is still selling at the same rate as hardware half of its price (unless you consider miniscule 20-40k a month NPD leads "distant for a console half the price of its competition, and "teh superior game libarary")
