We will see in a couple of days.
And in before Sony Fan says no it won't...................oh wait.
GDC will introduce the tools and a few other things.
E3 will show us what these tools can do in the games. It's going to be very interesting.
Can a hamster build a nuclear reactor?
Can you die in a nuclear reactor. lol!!
If you think it'll just be DX12 that improves the XB1, you'll be in for a rude awakening come E3.
are we? Please tell us more, specifics and all.
You'll have to wait until the E3 like everyone else. lol!!

If DX12 features are hardware specific then the Xbox One would have been manufactured with that in mind... Meaning why would Microsoft hold that back until know?... Short answer scam.

Company NDA bro,
We fanboys dont know yet if DX12 will unlock some hardware that was meant for DX12 instead of the current tech like DirectX11 hardware,
lets wait until GDC technology event for that - March 20 2014.

New tech is always unpreditable bro,. u dont cant even guess it right by how complex it is.

Lol sounds like MisterX fodder, from research I don't think it will do much Hardware wise, Software is where MS excels and I would expect to kind of see it in there.

It'll definitely help but I wouldn't call an API "secret sauce". It's not like Sony couldn't implement DX12 and OpenGL 4.5 features into their existing API's.
It's a damn API. It can extended at any time.
The 20th is judgment day apparently. Keeping a close eye on MisterX's blog as this is an event that they hype up to the absolute heavens over there like they did with the Hotchips one when everyone was sure they'd have 12GB DDR3 and a Kaveri CPU with GCN 2.0 and it ended in absolutely.....nothing LOL.
Either way. It's going to be an interesting day ;).
Yea, I'm pretty sure nobody takes him seriously anymore lol.
There's going to be so much damage control and spin that if you ever got nutrients from reading nonsense on the net then the 20th is going to be a Viking feast over there. It's going to be brilliant and I'm already starting to get hungry.
I have an xbox1 and I personally would not trust anything MisterX has to say at this point.
LOL I just took a brief visit. The Witcher 3 is now Xbone and PC only now. Holy christ *rolls eyes*

I should add that an upgraded API can be used to take advantage new hardware but that doesn't necessary mean there's secret sauce in those products as API's, especially DX, can used on a wide variety of products.
If I were to guess, Microsoft's big announcement will be that DX12 will be supported across all Mircosoft platforms - Windows Phone, Windows, and Xbox.

I just know people are setting themselves up for massive disappointment because it's going to be more like you've just described. You have no idea how much hyperbole is surrounding thursday, it's amazing. Will be such a fun day for internet forums :P.
If it does anything to improve the developer's toolkit and make developing for the platform easier or more streamlined, it will certainly help the Xbone's state.

Microsoft DirectX is a API that belongs to you guessed it Microsoft. AMD has no say in its release the two companies are in direct competition with each other... Since AMD released Mantle which is the main push for DX12 to compete against Mantle.

I am talking to a brick wall.
You are under the impression that the reason why Microsoft didn't release DX12 with Xbox One is because the Xbox One uses AMD hardware.
Click on the link I sent you... Here it is again in case your as capable at scrolling a mouse wheel as you are reading.
Read the following:
They also say that Microsoft's "close to the metal" lower-level access API is a relatively new project
You see the reason why isn't because of a NDA... Its because it never existed when the Xbox One was in development.

Never Doubt Microsoft when it comes to surprises.
No it won't help Xbone, but lemmings did fall for the Cloud. Microsoft just needs stupid people to jump off the cliff for them, and what do lemmings do?
You people keep ignoring facts:
The last time sony and AMD was together talking about the tech in the ps4 has been Feb-Mar the ps4 launched in NOV no major updates no driver SDK, from AMD at all. FACT
X1 launched in Nov AMD and MS been close ever since the catalyst drivers beta 14.1 came in Dec X1 got an update right after that did the ps4? NO
Catalyst drivers 14.2 in feb X1 got on in march did the ps4? NO
AMD shows Mantle Swarm benchmarks MS puts out a new SDK for Devs did the ps4? NO
AMD Tweet 2isbetterthan1 the sending pics asking is this an AMD or MS REP wheres the ps4?
MS and AMD are right on time with each other with sony no where to be found now why all of that hoopla just for a 7790 with some esram connected to it?

They were supposed to release in 2014 but they didn't want Sony to have 7-8 million console lead..so they had a "soft" release. Also everything had to be rewritten so they could remove the always online drm awesomeness. So the first wave of games, including Titanfall are only using the a fraction of the "system". Exciting time for gamer's ahead.
Plus I think Sony's APU is not anything AMD has revealed yet either. It's probably has some "secret sauce" too.
Cows get excited for games, lems get excited for drivers to slightly improve their crap hardware.
Pretty sad tbh.
ITT no one other than Wasdie even knows what directX is
It's magical pixie dust that will make the Xbone go from a 1.2TF piece of shit to a 5+TF BEAST.
I know this because misterxmedia told me so.

None of that means anything, you posted a picture of a "Top Secret Envelope" A DX12 Logo and the Xbox One Logo, I'm going with earlier thoughts that it will help the Xbox by making it easier but hardware is hardware and Xbox is still weaker than the PS4, I don't think it'll be a bad thing for Xbox but honestly, it;s going to be in favour of PC more than Xbox.

you both have good points.
looking forward to seeing what - if anything at all - happens.
direct x 11.2 didn't help like most lemmings said it would,
and now its 12?
just let it go lemmings,
pretty soon it will be 13, and then 14.
and nothing will help it because its shitty hardware
What games took advantage of 11.2?
exactly it never came,
lemmings live in a floating timeline akin to the simpsons.
the xbox one was only powerful when Maggie shot mr burns
what it will do
-make games look a little better
what it will not do
-turn xbone into a supercomputah like lems think it will
Man console owners in this thread are stupid...
DirectX 12 will not make a blind difference to Xbone because the API it currently uses it much lower level, streamlined and efficient compared to DirectX 12. DirectX12 is mainly to reduce the CPU overhead and enable more efficient coding on the PC platform.
Unless you Xbones want a more bloated, less efficient API on Xbone????
And as for people grasping at pure bullshit over this 2 is better then 1 hype thinking it's console related and it's a super secret secondary GPU?? Get fucking real, everyone in the PC space knows that 2 is better then 1 is referring to the new dual GPU HD R295 that's on the horizon and has jack shit to do with your precious console.
@WilliamRLBaker: Oh man, I forgot all about my upside down PS1. Good stuff!
As for the topic, that seems to be the claim anyhow... And we won't know til we see. I'm a bit skeptical in that :
1: As stated earlier new DX versions tend to be More resource demanding, not less.
2: standardized hardware (like a console) is supposed to allow devs to code "closer to the metal" than an API like directx would allow anyhow.
I look forward to seeing the presentation anyhow. For PC purposes if nothing else.
Well I don't know enough about DX12 but if its like every other Direct X ever released, then it would have a negative impact on performance I would imagine. For example, playing a PC game with DX11 features enabled will lead to a decrease in performance; turning them off yields better performance. It's been like this for every generation of Direct X releases. Unless DX12 is completely different and allows for ease of programming and optimization similar to AMD's Mantle then that's another story. But as I said, don't know much of anything about 12, but based on all past Direct X's, I don't see how this could possibly help the Xbox One achieve 1080p and better performance.
DirectX 12 is basically Microsoft's "Mantle" like API.

Direct3D and the Future of Graphics APIs (Presented by AMD), From http://schedule.gdconf.com/session-id/828412
Johan Andersson | Technical Director, Frostbite
Dan Baker | Partner, Oxide Games
Dave Oldcorn | Software Engineering Fellow, AMD
Location: Room 3020, West Hall Date: Thursday, March 20 Time: 5:30pm-6:30pm
"In this session AMDs Dave Oldcorn, Frostbite technical Director Johan Andersson and Oxides Dan Baker will look at how new Direct3D advancements enhance efficiency and enable fully-threaded building of command buffers. They will demonstrate how AMD is using its recent experience in efficient graphics API design and its partnership with Microsoft to provide developers with the infrastructure to render next-generation graphics workloads at full performance. This presentation also discusses the best ways to exploit AMD hardware under heavy load and will invite developers to influence driver and hardware development."
Both AMD and Microsoft will talk about (with AMD/EA/Oxide demonstration) DirectX 12.
@Wasdie:
Not really. The Xbox One already has a much lower level API than DirectX 11 and the major changes they are making to DX12 are to increase efficiency of the API by giving the game direct hardware access in some areas. At least that will be one of the features.
DirectX on the Xbox One is already more efficient than the PC version. I'm speaking in some pretty general terms here, nothing specific.
Xbox One has it's own SDK/driver improvements e.g. enabling it's ACE units and second render pipeline.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-microsoft-to-unlock-more-gpu-power-for-xbox-one-developers
"In addition to asynchronous compute queues, the Xbox One hardware supports two concurrent render pipes," Goossen pointed out. "The two render pipes can allow the hardware to render title content at high priority while concurrently rendering system content at low priority. The GPU hardware scheduler is designed to maximise throughput and automatically fills 'holes' in the high-priority processing. This can allow the system rendering to make use of the ROPs for fill, for example, while the title is simultaneously doing synchronous compute operations on the compute units."
It's unknown if DirectX12 will unlock AMD's ACE units and NVIDIA's HyperQ features for gaming async compute.
Both AMD ACE and NVIDIA HyperQ fills holes during sync compute.
Can't wait to see what Dx12 can do.
People who think everything will be shown at the GDC is setting themselves up for disappointment. I'm sure there will be tech demos and all that, but any big news concerning XB1 won't happen until the E3. I'm curious to see what Dx12 can do as well.
If DX12 features are hardware specific then the Xbox One would have been manufactured with that in mind... Meaning why would Microsoft hold that back until know?... Short answer scam.
AMD GCN exceeds OpenGL and DirectX APIs.
Read http://timothylottes.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/notes-on-amd-gcn-isa.html
DX and GL are years behind in API design compared to what is possible on GCN. For instance there is no need for the CPU to do any binding for a traditional material system with unique shaders/textures/samplers/buffers associated with geometry. Going to the metal on GCN, it would be trivial to pass a 32-bit index from the vertex shader to the pixel shader, then use the 32-bit index and S_BUFFER_LOAD_DWORDX16 to get constants, samplers, textures, buffers, and shaders associated with the material. Do a S_SETPC to branch to the proper shader.
This kind of system would use a set of uber-shaders grouped by material shader register usage. So all objects sharing a given uber-shader can get drawn in say one draw call (draw as many views as you have GPU perf for). No need for traditional vertex attributes either, again just one S_SETPC branch in the vertex shader and manually fetch what is needed from buffers or textures...
---------------
Short answer: MS/AMD run out time for Xbox One's release dead line. At the same time, AMD was designing/helping Sony with their PS4's APIs.
