[QUOTE="heretrix"]It will if it has to. As with any other game.heretrix

Ok, it will if it has to. But what if it doesn't have to? What if squeezing/cutting it so heavily just isn't 'worth it' in comparison to the 360 install base in 2010? I mean yes, Rockstar could do it -- if the 360 was roaring ahead of every other console (in spectacular fashion), IF that happens, yes it would 'have to' Otherwise? They won't bother, basically. And trust me, that won't happen.

By then the 360 will be a distant 3rd, and Rockstar won't make that sort of sacrifice.

If GTA is viable on a platform that already has 17 million users, do you mean to tell me, 2 years from now (since we are speculating here) in which it could have DOUBLE that amount, Rockstar is going to say

"Oh no, MS is in 3rd place we won't develop for that platform!"

Yeah, right.

The 360 won't have 34 Million users in 24 Months time. In 2007 it had a worse year than 2006, despite having better/more games. Sales for the 360 are going to be on a steady decline from Autumn this year onwards. Please, pull yourself back into reality.

Nice try - but if this generation is already 2.5 years old (lol), that means you mean it started when the 360 launched. So by that token, you have to start the last gen at the Dreamcast. So GTA III appeared at least 2 years after the gen started. Or more accurately, the same time.

You can't compare DLC with an entirely new game.

also, next gen will probably being in late 2010wemhim

You only wish. The 'next gen' will start in 2012 at the earliest. Just because the 360 has a short lifespan, it doesn't mean this generation will. If MS releases another console so soon, watch it bomb.

If it starts in 2012, sure they could, but I doubt this gen will last that long, EVERY other gen didn't, since the 70s.

It will start in 2012 at the earliest. The PS2 is still selling like hotcakes, yet you think we're going to go 'next gen' the year after next? lol. Stop trying to change facts and history just to appease the 360 not being future-proof.

Ummm....You mean how this pattern has existed since KC and the Sunshine Band was considered new and hip? The 360 came out in 2005, to say that this gen will last 7 years is changing history, 2010 or 2011 is basing it off of history. Oh, and the dreamcast part was right, got me there, but the DLC is huge.

Oblivion is a little over 4GB and has 16+ sq. miles of terrain, indoor enviornments, and dungeons. DVD will never be a problem.

Yes it will, next gen.

Well I'm talking about this gen. I think it's a little too early to be talking about next gen.

Oh, I see. "Forever" was a loose statement, that's cool. Like Duke Nukem Forever is taking forever.

[QUOTE="TheSystemLord1"]I want a link to MGS4 being compressed. Because Kojima has said time and time again that the sound in MGS4 is best left UN-compressed. And that he didn't want to bother with the compression.roadkill88

Actually, I may have been wrong about that - or at least I can't find a link to back it up. But the point remains, MGS4 is 50gb. At least. And this is only 2008.

The only reason MGS4 is 50GB is because of the uncompressed audio. It's not some spectacular accomplishment like you're making it out to be.

Tell me something, how's the whole installing games on your PS3 working out for you? I asked because I remember back in the day when cows bashed PC owners numerous times because having to install games was a "waste of time".

i didnt say its impossible, i say that usually it is not compressed, many of the PS3´s games use uncompressed audio or video, because the blu-ray player on the PS3 has a slower disc reading speed

stika

Being uncompressed wouldn't help with loading speed; developers just do it because they can... the slow disc reading speed actually results in data duplication on games like Resistance, which still takes up a bunch of space, but it's technically different.

2) I've never installed a PS3 game since I bought it, so I dunno what to tell you.

And spare me the whole PS3 is gonna blow up in 2008 and beyond spiel. Even if it does it's going to take a couple of years for it to reach and past the 360, unless it starts to sell like the Wii. Then that's a different story. By 2010, best case scenario for the PS3 is that it catches up to the 360's installed userbase. And even if it outsells the 360 before that, do you really think Rockstar is going to forsake MILLIONS of gamers just to develop for the PS3 alone?

Who's forsaking reality now?

A hint: It rhymes with YOU.

Oh my god, the fanboyism has blinded them so much that they can't see! This reminds me of Nintendo fanboys back in the late 90's who couldn't accept reality.

"Space doesn't matter, carts aren't going anywhere."

"The 64 will have all exclusives by 2000, on carts".

And look what happened there. Face facts, DVD9 has no place beyond 2010/11.

roadkill88

I'm still waiting for a response to my statement?

I'll keep going though. What good is all the space on a Blu-Ray disc if the PS3's disc drive can't read it fast enough?

What statement? The one where you basically say Blu-Ray isn't necessary? That was so lame it didn't even deserve a nod. MGS4 is 50gb. And already compressed. And this is only 2008. COD4 developers said that the blood-splatter effects seen in single player were possible in multiplayer, but they couldn't do it because of DVD9.

You're even more delusional than those Nintendo 64 fanboys.

They said that i don't think so the games only 6.4gb and what does blood splatter got to do with space? And what dev make a 50gb game only gonna be videos.

I know, I couldn't even think of a way to reply to that. Of course a generation takes awhile to gain momentum, but the fact was, the 360 came out, and it was part of the 7th generation.

The reality of it is GTA was on the Xbox platform last genheretrix

Long after it appeared on the PS2. And nobody cared by the time it did appear.

and it will continue to be on this gen.heretrix

Last gen the medium of the PS2 and the Xbox were the same. This gen, they're vastly different. Your comparison fails.

And I said I was speculating. My guess was just as accurate as yours was.heretrix

No its not because I have laid out reasons why it won't reach the number. Meanwhile, you just issued a statement that it will, without giving reasons.

And spare me the whole PS3 is gonna blow up in 2008 and beyond spiel.heretrix

Umm no, why shouls we leave this out just because you want to be spared of it? Its relevant, sore or not.

Even if it does it's going to take a couple of years for it to reach and past the 360, unless it starts to sell like the Wii.heretrix

Historically, thats what Playstations do - explode 18-24 Months into their lives.

And even if it outsells the 360 before that, do you really think Rockstar is going to forsake MILLIONS of gamers just to develop for the PS3 alone?

Rockstar isn't EA. Kojima, Square and many other developers are 'forsaking' the 360 even while its ahead. At best the 360 will recieve a heavily downgraded version. If anything at all. By then Rockstar will be making the best game they can. Why would Rockstar risk (for the first time EVER) poor reviews over a console in third place? Same reason Final Fantasy etc are staying PS3 exclusive.

Had you even read what you quoted, I said 'if I was forced to use your logic'. It was only stretched because he attempted to warp the generation into the 360's sphere of influence alone.

Is that why I couldn't find one for 5 MONTHS? Nobody? This generation started when the 360 launched. Please spare us the Sony marketing BS dude. The generation starts when the new hardware is launched, PERIOD. It always takes awhile before the games start to take advantage of the hardware. And Kameo, a launch game did what wasn't possible on the previous generations, so that kills your theory right there.

Roadkill, are you serious with this stuff? Generations eventually start after PlayStation's are released, with the implication that it is the PlayStation brand that kicks off the generation? Are you aware that the Wii has doubled the sales of the PS3 in the same time frame? Are you aware that the PS3 is also susceptible to this second year drop-off that the 360 experienced, and the PS3 and 360 both sold the same amount of units at this period in their life time.

I ask these questions because you seem to be very biased in your dealings. Developers only care about the amount of units of a console bought to the extent that it effects their sales. If you have a console that has 100 million users but only 500,000 of those users consistently buy games, while you have another console with 20 million users and 4,000,000 who consistently buy games they are going to prefer the 20 million unit system.

Why? Because they care about how much their software sells. Now considering that the 360 doesn't have a 2:1 console advantage anymore, why the heck do you still see 360 games outselling PS3 games at that same rate. Its simply because the numbers will tell you that 360 gamers play more games than PS3 users do, even at the same point in their console lives.

So tell me why rockstar games would dismiss the 360 when it is yielding the highest software sales of the two?

Oh I fail, do I? Well you're not going to like my pointing out how you just self-owned yourself. The very reason the 'lack of a standard HDD' IS a 'problem', is because a standard HDD would have been needed to make up for the lack of space on the main medium. If the 360 had of had a HDD as standard, then Rockstar could have made the game bigger, because they could have used the HDD to make up for space. The fact that it doesn't have a HDD as standard, means that Rockstar can't use it, so they have to fit everything on DVD9. Creating the 'problems' you're talking about.

Nice self-own.

You cannot do anything without the hardware, genius. And like I said, Kameo did what wasn't possible on the platforms before it.

I'm done with you. You don't wish to look at the facts as they are, you wish to make up nonsense and call it fact. I'll leave you with this:

1. Over a million customers bought the GTA double pack for the Xbox and many more bought San Andreas.

2. The next generation starts when the new hardware is released. Anybody with a quarter of solid brain matter knows this. New games aren't possible without the friggin hardware.

3. The xbox 360 was sold out for months, that means SOMEBODY wanted it. a WHOLE LOT OF Somebodies

4. The 360 isn't the Dreamcast, the Dreamcast never had EA support, let alone better versions of it games out selling the Playstation versions by vast margins.

5.Rockstar is a business, they want to continue making money. They will not stop making games on a platfrom that is making money for them. They have been a multiplat developer and they will continue to do so. Bully, which was a PS2 game is going to be released on the 360..Why? Because they want to make money.

Grab your buttocks and pull your head out of it please.

You couldn't find an X360 through the holidays of 2005 into the first few months of 2006. Now go look at your "precious", you could find one after a month & no one was buying off Ebay after 3 weeks. A gen doesnt start til Sony releases its system. Bahahahaahaha that was a good laugh, d00d.

[QUOTE="Huff"][QUOTE="roadkill88"][QUOTE="TheSystemLord1"]The problems with GTAIV never came from DVD9, they came from a lack of standard HDD.

You fail. Miserably.

roadkill88

Possibly, the silliest post that i've ever read.

*Checking for your rebuttal on other points I've made in this thread*

*Fail*.

*Checking for points you've made in this thread* Nope, nothing but nonsensical fanboy ranting in here. Maybe if you make a point, we can talk about it. Till then I'll just keep laughing like everyone else.

This it it for DVD 9. I wouldn't be suprised if disk based media is done away with completely. Hell, the only problem standing in the way of that is the retailers.

He also ignored my question about how much space it will fill on a DVD9...mainly because this is what he always does when faced with something that will prove him wrong.

1. Over a million customers bought the GTA double pack for the Xbox and many more bought San Andreas.heretrix

And do you know how many were sold on the PS2?

2. The next generation starts when the new hardware is released. Anybody with a quarter of solid brain matter knows this. New games aren't possible without the friggin hardware.heretrix

The next gen starts when the best selling games appearing on the new hardware are impossible on the old hardware.

3. The xbox 360 was sold out for months, that means SOMEBODY wanted it. a WHOLE LOT OF Somebodiesheretrix

So?

1) Why didn't you address my Dreamcast point (Come to that, you addressed virtually nothing, you're 'done' right?), it was a very hot product initially, it failed.

2) As many 'sombodies' as that was, more 'somebodies' wanted a PS2.

Rockstar is a business, they want to continue making money. They will not stop making games on a platfrom that is making money for them. They have been a multiplat developer and they will continue to do so. Bull, which was a PS2 game is going to be released on the 360..Why? Because they want to make money.heretrix

Oh I agree, you go to the place which makes you most money. In 2010, that place will be the PS3. And Rockstar isn't going to release a sub-standard game on the PS3.

How much space WHAT will fill on a DVD9? What is 'it'? GTA IV? I have no idea, but I'm guessing all of it. We'll find out this year. GTA V? Unless its a seriously compromised game, none of it.

yep. disk based media is screwed anyway. i just hope they won't compress too much in visuals and sound for downloadable content though.... they over compress movies imo.. i play my movies and games on a HD projector on a 100 inch cinema screen, and i can tell the difference in extra artifacts caused by compression... sucks.. i want the highest quality.

That MAcBook Air, and the i-pod earlier are the first steps into a disc free world.

Not by definition, it starts when a successor to a current system is released to the public. And maybe Condemned wasn't possible, did you dev for it, and see how it'd work on the original Xbox or something?

As long as disks have an advantage in some way, they will remain, so whether it be 2010 or 2030, disks will die out, but when the time is right.

That doesn't matter, you said "nobody" cared.

1a. I addressed your Dreamcast point, you just can't read. It has to be that because I cannot believe you are that dense.

2a.Once again you said nobody cared. Not being able to find a 360 for 5 whole months proves you wrong.

No, it's not who makes you the most money, it's who makes you money. If a product is successful on multiple platforms, they don't choose the one that makes the most money, they develop for all of the successful platforms. It's simple math:

4 successful platforms>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>1 successful platform.

Why only get money from one group of people when you get money from ALL OF THEM.

I know I said I was done, but it's too much fun owning you.

1) Is it or is it not 50gb?

2) I've never installed a PS3 game since I bought it, so I dunno what to tell you.

1. Without uncompressed audio, it's nowhere near that.

2. Let me know when you do, since it seems to be to going thing now.

I can't believe you are sticking to this thread.

To sum up your opinions in a nutshell...

1.) DVD9 will be obsolete by 2011

2.) Each "Generation" starts with a Playstation product.

3.) The PS3 will be in 2nd place behind the Wii in 2010

to which I answer:

1.) So what if it is? The 360 will be 6 years old by then. I don't know about anybody else but buying a console once every 6 years isn't too shabby. The question I have for you is what happens if Microsoft launches the Xbox 720 in 2011-2012? The PS3 will just be starting to pick up some momentum when all of a sudden it isn't even CLOSE to the hottest thing out anymore. Do you honestly think that Microsoft's next console will side-step and be on par with the Playstation 3? We already know the Cell is bottlenecked by the EXTREMELY under-whelming RSX. What will Sony do then? Release another console? Sucks to be PS3 owners who were expecting 8 or 9 years of support.

2.) Each Generation starts with a "Playstation" product? One generation started with a Playstation product. The PS1 didn't fly out of the gate immediately destroying the Nintendo 64, it took years. The Playstation 2 rode the first one's success. The Wii's success and the huge sales of the 360 during the most important consumer buying period of the year point to a somewhat bleak future if you are looking for PS2-esque success. Also, you keep bringing up the Dreamcast. I bought a Dreamcast at launch, it was Sega's last chance. They launched early because without those early numbers they were totally doomed. Do you think Microsoft is in Sega's position? This is far bigger than the Xbox, and the Xbox 360. Microsoft said in the beginning that it was a long road and you had to spend money to make money. So if they launch their new console in 2011-2012 when Sony financially cannot support a new console all of a sudden the most advanced and awesome games WILL be totally exclusive, exclusive to the next Xbox. Everyone will buy it, and the PS3 could very easily be buried even further.

3.) Its got a loooooooooooong way to go now...doesn't it?

I personally like digital distribution, I'm not one to take games back or share with other people(Not out of selfishness, but it never comes up), so I'm good, and I hate switching disks when I only play a mission or two in a game. And I think compression won't be too much of an issue when 1TB HDDs fit in the 2.5" with a small price.

If any console is released in 2012, it will pwn everything this gen. Just look at the 9800GTX, 4GB of RAM DDR3 1066, and the future Sandy Bridge, anything like that in next gen consoles will PWN. I don't think the PS3 will hold the 720 back.

Calm down, if you bothered to answer the original post you would know. GTA V will use the same engine, do you really think they will remake the entire game from the ground up for a sequal? So bearing that in mind and IF this version easily fits on a DVD9 with space to spare we can safely say GTAV will have no problem.

So far the PS3 has shown us that Bluray's space has helped it achieve NOTHING that is not possible on the 360. GTA IV is no exception and GTA V will be no exception. Face it, Bluray was in the PS3 to help Sony win the movie format war and not to help you as a gamer. The fact you fell for the lie may make you feel silly but there really is no need to go to these ridiculous lengths only to prove yourself wrong in the end anyway.

It sounds like a good idea, but i don't think digital distribution will be feasible for a long time..Especially with BD soon to become the standard in the next couple of years. Personally, i like to physically posess games or merchandise i purchase. And im sure a lot of people around the world feel the same way. You spend $60 on a game & you like to know you have it to do with what you please. Not to mention, our broadband speeds are far from being able to download X amount gb of games in a timely fashion. And we could also assume that digital distribution would most likely put game stores out of business, which means more jobs lost. Who knows, maybe im wrong & it will become the new fad...But honestly, im hoping it doesn't. :|

What punishment?! Seriously, wait until 2010 is what we've been hearing since day 1. I want actual games on the store shelves right now that justify Blu-Ray. MGS4 for all you know could be 20 hours of horrible textures, what then?

I personally like digital distribution, I'm not one to take games back or share with other people(Not out of selfishness, but it never comes up), so I'm good, and I hate switching disks when I only play a mission or two in a game. And I think compression won't be too much of an issue when 1TB HDDs fit in the 2.5" with a small price.

That's true, although the job thing shouldn't be much of a problem, people who work at game stores aren't specialists or anything, so they would just migrate to the other retail store that opens up there, and gamestop going out of biz won't hurt the economy much if at all, and they're not going to suddenly go bankrupt either(Many industries become dated), but yeah, some technical issues.

[QUOTE="heretrix"]I know I said I was done, but it's too much fun owning you.roadkill88

You wish. You were 'done' when it became apparent you were being owned several times too often within the space of one thread, by one person.

Denying the ownage just makes it more sweet.

We both know who was owned here today. You and I both know.

I also know, and it was the aptly named roadkill88.

Well hey, at least he *tried*, you only attempted 10% of the time. Which by the way, is why I ignored you. I only talk to people who are man enough to get into the entire debate, not jab and run away. Now, 17:15. Time to go soon, but I enjoy making you Xbox fanboys squirm so I'll come back to dish out more punishment.

LOL, ahh how I remember being so young as well once. See you around no doubt, i'll be looking forward to you dishing out some of this 'punishment' you talk about :).
