Based on all the negative feedback this thing is getting, I can't help but wonder.

THIS. Most every preview for it has been positive. The only negative feedback is coming from SW.Can you link me to some of this negative feedback please?

I just think the initial prospect for Kinect is not measuring up. Can't play sitting down? Only 2 players? So how does this thing scan objects into 360 games? Why was that not featured at this years E3? That must have been thrown out the window? Where was the interactive AI shown at E3 09? The most interesting parts of Kinect, which you'd think would be stressed at this years E3, were nowhere to be seen. Why? Because they were probably dropped, due to cost. I just find it odd that, with the release date fast approaching, its most positive aspects were not shown.
Also, it is my understanding that an Amazon pre order can be cancelled at anytime. People just like to possibly guarantee getting something.

This answered his question how?I don't really mean articles, perhaps a bad choice of words. I feel Microsoft is using very devious marketing tactics. People on this site have been shown features here and there, but really, nobody knows or has seen it really do any of the claims. I take that as negative.

Not whilst it's #2 on Amazon US's preorder chart (behind the new 360).Seems to be a lot of demand for it.Ravensmash
Well, of course it is, because it's new. But how will it hold up in like, 6 months down the road?
And Amazon =/= The World.
The thing has no audience on 360. I won't be surprised if it sinks like the Titanic.Parasomniac
Me either. Only those that are very foolish & blind would buy it. It needs to flop badly so that Microsoft can get back to making core games for the 360. It's the hardcores who made them popular for this gen, not the casuals.

Why should I unless I have bought said product. There is no reason to argue a what if. Just read the dozens of impressions on the thing. Is that a Zero Punctuation knock off I see? (or did he knock off someone else first? :P) MS's marketing team did a great job, putting their conference to pretty much all the casuals out there. I'm not sure how this will work with their old fans though. I would rage if MS canceled a new Conker for Kinect Sports. No, seeing as how it'll sell more than Twilight's unpublished manuscript highlighting Edward's bi-curious phase.

You're right - Amazon doesn't equal the world....but it's the largest online retailer in many countries - and is closer to indication for demand than other sources we have for sure. The fact that Move isn't even in the top 10, indicates what has the most demand at this time. Of course initial demand could drop suddenly, that's a very possible outcome.[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Not whilst it's #2 on Amazon US's preorder chart (behind the new 360).

Yeah god forbid MS tries to cater to anyone other than core gamers. Shame on them!!In a way, that is what I'm getting at. There ARE NO FACTS about this product. You really don't feel a negative connotation with a product that has been shown to do things, but may or may not do them? What are you talking about? People played it at E3. IT WORKS! As to stuff that was missing: Milo will be displayed next month in a presentation by Moleunex, although kinectimals is very similar technology. Just because a game doesnt use the scanning feature, doesnt mean it has been taken out. Either way the video originally referred to was just a product vision and its not fair to assume that all of that will be in the final product.Heirren

So you're pretty much just pulling facts out of your you know what?i5750at4GhzHe's actually correct, there's a huge backlash both in the forums and "on the street" towards this. The general public is still largely unaware of Kinect, but amongst the gaming crowd it's seeing a negative reaction. As far as the press is concerned, most of the gaming media can't give an impression. They either have not played it (beyond the tech demonstrations), they're bound by NDAs about what they can / cannot say, or they work for companies who risk being cut off from information if they say something too negative about Microsoft. The fact is, you're not going to get the truth from the majority of the gaming press yet, even the ones who are able to talk openly, because it's not their place to speculate on what the general marketplace thinks. - As far as "fanboyism" goes, we can't even begin to get into that. There are a ton of Microsoft supporters attacking anyone with a negative opinion of Kinect, but the fact is, Microsoft lied to their supporters. They showed you pre-recorded demonstrations of Kinect on stage. They show people using Kinect sitting down even though it currently does not support sitting use. They show families playing with Kinect even though it only currently supports two people. Let's be realistic here - MIcrosoft is engaging in massive marketing, giving away 360s at their E3 event, showing commercials with happy families playing Kinect, branding the hell out of existing content, and generally shoving hard on the image here. If anything, we're in danger of being biased towards Microsoft. The risk here is that we don't question Kinect hard enough. If people are skeptical and they're wrong, nothing is lost, we wind up with a great product and we're happy. If people are not skeptical and buy into something that turns out to be a waste, then we have a bunch of people holding a $150 gadget that does nothing. You, I, everyone here, we have no incentive to buy Microsoft's marketing campaign. Let them prove it, let them prove they have a market, let them prove this thing will be good for their core audience, let them prove they're going to do something more than make Wii Too software. Until then, drag them through the dirt, because frankly E3 2010 for Microsoft was a travesty.

Wow..."agent of propagnda"...maybe you should chill.
ON kinects ability to allow players to sit: Launch titles are made for standing either way. From the stuff I am hearing, MS is working to allow users to sit at launch. This has been said by MS and many publications. WAIT AND SEE....
