The only JRPG this year that has the potential to be better is Fire Emblem. FF15, maybe, but it's FF and it's Square, so you can never be too sure.

Dark Souls 3 is far more my style of game. It will most likely be the most successful JRPG this year.

Critically, possibly. Personally, likely. Commercially... meh, maybe, hope so, maybe they'll make more of them, or maybe make a modern console collection of Persona 3/4.

I think Dark Souls is pretty niche though... Most successful will probably be a fire emblem or a final fantasy in terms of commercial success. Though I do hope persona surprises me, it seems to be getting good coverage.

That's exactly it, Square and FF have rarely been consistent enough in the last few years to inspire much confidence. FF15 does look good, but still, I'm being cautious.

I'm even getting the PS3 version along with the PS4.

But i don't dissmiss the others, like Star Ocean, Valkyria and FF15, so this year will be jus great to play all of them.

Yup, Nier's existence is a miracle and it's ticking all the boxes. I think it'll come out this year, it looks much further along than Scalebound, it already looks pretty smooth. Easy game of the year if it makes 2016.

FF15 actually looks legit, though i'm cautiously optimistic about it, hope it surprises us.

As for Persona 5, well i've got to play P4 real soon first!

I'm betting on the install base and passion of Souls games fans. PC, PS4, X1 I say it sells more. So your commercially comment is where i am gambling you're wrong. Critically I can still see Souls winning that but by whose metric?

But that's all just a gamble from a gamer who gave persona an honest try on vita and it just doesn't interest me at all.

Final Fantasy XV will easily sell the most from that list. No other JRPG comes close in sales to mainline FF and Kingdom Hearts games. FF XV could outsell the rest of TC's list combined honestly.

Sorry FFXV is going to Obliterate it commercially and equal or better critically. That said Persona 5 is set up to be the biggest and most successful game in the franchise so far and has potential to break into the mainstream market and get Souls level recognition.

I see two games: Dark Souls 3 and Nier Automata while the rest is your typical non game JRPG trash.

FF15 may sell more, that doesn't make it a better game than Persona 5, which is almost assuredly going to be a far more superior product.

Persona has always had a very niche audience, so people don't commonly hear about it. It's gotten more popular lately with P4G and all the P4 spinoffs, but it's still not mainstream.

If you have a Vita, though, you should definitely play P4G. Quality game.

I think he bases that off the recent consistency and quality of games in both franchises, and that of the developers, and really, if that's his metric, then there's no doubting that Persona 5 will be the superior product.

FF15 looks good, I won't deny that, but Square and the series' trends in the last few years don't inspire much confidence. The same cannot be said for Atlus and Persona.

Multiple things:

• The recent track record of Atlus and Persona versus the recent track record of Square Enix and Final Fantasy 15
• The mostly smooth (if long) development of Persona 5 versus the highly protracted development of Final Fantasy 15- it has changed directors two times, and full staff at least three separate times
• Persona generally pushes the envelope of RPGs more than Final Fantasy- FF15 looks ambitious, definitely, but it still looks like a traditional JRPG translated to a modern open world context. Persona always plays with its structure, its story, and its characters to subvert player expectations about the genre

Everything we have seen of Persona so far looks far better than everything we have seen of Final Fantasy 15- even if this point is subjective, the three points listed above are not. They are pretty concrete grounds to be far more confident of Persona 5's quality over Final Fantasy 15, when it comes down to it.

Fans of Final Fantasy (of which I am one myself, I may remind you) are free to look forward to FF15 more, nothing is stopping them; they are free to think FF15 will be the better game, and nothing is stopping them from believing that either- for all we know, it will be. However, there are no concrete points to actually believe at this point that FF15 will be a better game than P5 will be. The few concrete points that exist as evidence when talking about two unreleased games all point to Persona 5 being the better product. The only reason FF fans would persist in thinking FF15 may be better would be because of, as you said, emotions and fandom, with a dash of subjectivity and personal preferences thrown in.

Persona 5 will probably be the most critically acclaimed among them, but FFXV will almost certainly be the most commercially successful among them.

If Persona 5 gets a proper combat system, level design and more rounded characters with better social links aspects then I'll be sold. It'll be 2nd place right after Dark Souls III for me.

Obliterate? I doubt it. Will it win? Possibly.

I think FFXV is actually building a lot of steam. A lot of people loved the new gameplay videos.

Might not be the best way but this walkthrough is very good for Ryu ga gotoku ishin especially for the the sub stories and understanding the main story.
