Remember when all FPS were exclusive to PC? there was a few good fps on consoles, but everyone knew fps was best on PC back in the day

now since Halo nearly all fps are on Consoles or Console exclusive

now Microsoft/Sony would love more money of course, right now RTS/MMORPGS are pretty much PC only, Microsoft tried to Steal RTS from PC with Halo wars, failed big time, Sony have a few MMO's incoming on PS3, wonder how that will go?

i guess PC gamers should thank Blizzard for RTS/MMO staying dominant on PC and Consoles not ruining another genre, consoles ruined Fps

anyway, will RTS and MMORPG's ever be popular on Consoles?

The RTS has a future on consoles, if developers can take the time to craft a good game ala Halo Wars.

I realize you are just trying to troll, but at least make a somewhat acceptable answer to understand what is going on.

What do I mean by this? We are talking about the RTS and MMO on consoles. You are talking about all games on PC. See where we I'm going with this?

Real time strategies, no. MMORPGs? Possibly. They just need to be done correctly.

Either Move or Kinect (is that the name of Msofts motion system, i forget) can allow the player to have a freedom with RTS that has never been experienced before. But as we both have stated, you need a developer who is willing to spend the time to create such an experience.

In the current condition Kinect isn't even accurate enough to play very basic sport games.

And how will Move create something that i have't experienced before? Very curious.

GameSpot was one of the few major review sites that did not lap praise upon Halo Wars. My evidence being that GS gave Halo Wars a 6.5 while the average for Halo Wars sits in the mid 80s.

GeneralShowzer

The freedom the tools give(or could give). Say you are using Kinect to play an RTS, the player could just point to a section on the mini map to jump there. To enlarge or minimize the screen the player could use the same technique you use with a smart phone just move your fingers/hands outwards or inwards. To select you just point, to create a unit you just point. To select a group you grab them. To select all of specific unit you could double or triple tap.

We have the tech, we just need someone to take a vested interest in it and create the game.

Same with the Wii Remote the only thing is the Developers have to get it to work and their also has to be a market for RTSs.

For the TCs other genre Sony is trying to get MMORPGs to be popular on the PS3. They are making DC Universe Online, The Agency, and some other MMO on PS3 and PC. The only thing is I don't know if it will be successful because Console gamers might not want to pay a monthly fee for Console game unless it is the Console's Online service fee.

So let's get this straight.... You want a developer, to spend tens of millions of dollars for an excellent RTS for the Move , while knowing, that RTS on consoles generally don't sell, while targeting just the 4-5 million people who bought move, and on top of that people who bought move were just looking for HD Wii, because Move sports is the best selling game on it.

Darn...oh wait how the hell does that matter when Halo Wars isn't even on PC? Explain that one to me. How does Wii Sports compare to sports games on the PC? Why does any console specific game have to compare to something on the PC, and vice versa.

Its people and developers like you that are stunting this industry. How can we create the next great thing if we are all so goddamned scared of own shadows that we refuse to go out on a limb and create the next big thing? Or should we just keep recreating the same BS over and over and over again?

When man still lived in caves, if the people then listened to the one person who said "No, we shouldn't use fire because we might get burned." We would still be living in that cave.

But consoles allow for keyboard support. I've played a MMO on a console and had no problems. Also, Little King's Story is awesome. I think RTS and MMO could be popular, consoles just need that one game that'd causes it to be popular.

Controlers are far removed from the sense of control you get with a Keyboard and Mouse, and if someone going to try and move that to the even less control scheme of Motion controls it will never work. The reason we don't see many RTS on consoles is basically the audience isn't there, it's possible to do...but the people who bought PS3/360/Wii are not looking for that type of game. Even on the PC on a select number of franchises actually thrive in both genres.

DC universe is looking good and it's coming out for consoles. So MMO have a chance as long as console is the lead platform. RTS? Nah not really imo. They will continue to be overly simplistic due to controllers.

Yes, let all developers take risks at 100% fail certain projects, that's why every year we hear developers shutting down and staff being laid off.

I think RTS would work if developers would stop trying to imitate PC type rts. Pikman is a great example of a rts that didn't do that.

Couldn't really tell what you are saying. An RTS is a risk for developers guaranteeing a 100% failure?

Halo Wars sold 639,000 units in its launch month of March 2009. I don't see that as a failure. I doubt Ensemeble or Microsoft did either.

BWii although not being a full RTS it is sort've like RTS mixed with 3rd Person Shooter/Flight Combat you can command many different units at once but then you are also in control of one Unit and you can play as that one character, Plane, Boat, or Vehicle as you're controlling those many different units. (It was a different take on the RTS genre for Consoles)

do they take any usb keyboard or do i need to buy a special one? either way, beyond controls you also have monthly fees that im sure look even worse on xbox live where youre already paying and making an mmo for ps3 only isnt nearly as tempting for a developer. then you have updates which dont go through psn or live very easily.

Here's your problem.

mattuk69

Wasn't that the same problem that prevented FPS from ever working on consoles?

I would say that as long as developers find a way to modify the controls and probably the gameplay RTS and MMO will work in the same fashion as FPS did.

Couldn't really tell what you are saying. An RTS is a risk for developers guaranteeing a 100% failure?

Halo Wars sold 639,000 units in its launch month of March 2009. I don't see that as a failure. I doubt Ensemeble or Microsoft did either.

It is when you're making it for the Kinect, whose audience consists of kids and casuals, and only 4 million of them.

DC universe is looking good and it's coming out for consoles. So MMO have a chance as long as console is the lead platform. RTS? Nah not really imo. They will continue to be overly simplistic due to controllers.

Nintendo_Ownes7

I think RTS would work if developers would stop trying to imitate PC type rts. Pikman is a great example of a rts that didn't do that.

Oh yeah, I remember that game. I thought it was decent.

You know why that is? Because that is who it is marketed towards ala more games and adds! If Msoft wanted more hardcore gamers to buy Kinect than they would market it more towards them (which is what they will do in 2011)

Halo Wars sold whatever amount it sold mostly because of the four letter word before the Wars. It wasn't on PC because Microsoft wants more $$$ and it is much easier for them to get that money from a system they control 100%. Anyways, even if it were on PC, the sales would sunk big time.

There is NO FREEDOM IN THAT GAME!! I'm not a big RTS fan, will be soon, but seriously, there is no skill needed in that game. You KNOW where the enemy base is at, it is soo fixed, its really annoying lol...

MMORPGs has a future on consoles, I can see it. Playstation tho, not on Xbox. Sony, from what they have shown are more open to openess lol. Microsoft likes having control of everything...Sony might become that too..

So...

RTS - Not from what I see, allow KnM support and maybe.

MMORPGs - Yes but these two corporations are going to need to give up some of their "freedoms" and pass it to developers and consumers.

i don't think its cause its popularity, its simply because they haven't done it yet (rts aside cause i couldn't care less). iv'e been waiting a long time to play a good MMORPG since i'm not going to sink a grand into my computer for one gamebebop013

You don't have to spend a grand if you know how to put together a computer and use newegg. I built my current PC over two years ago for $800 total and it can run any game out now pretty much perfectly. Prices drop very quickly in the PC world, you could probably build my current PC for like $500 now.

New hardware is coming out for PC like every freakin month, which means lots of price drops on older hardware..but developers aren't really making games with crazy requirements..most new games run on old engines that have been out for years.

A lot of PC gamers should start to realise that RTS / MMORPGs are easely possible on consoles, especially on PS3 where you have a HDD. You can use Mouse and Keyboard. I guess the main problem is that both of them are not in the "standard equipment" of consoles and you need some kind of table which might be a problem for console gamers as well :S Personally I don't really care, I own tons of both to play on my PC, so I'm fine ^^

RTSes? No, devs tried many times before and always failed. It won't happen.

MMOs? Depend. The PC-styled MMOs won't work, but a console styled game with added MMO component could. Of course even then making on for consoles will always be a lot risker than for PC, but it could be done

They would need to be fully designed around the consoles so in other words be incredibly simplified in order to work with the controller. In saying that I don't think RTS's will ever be that popular on consoles, MMO's is a possibility though.
