Will Sony ever have a franchise reach the success

Crash was on the PS2 though by then Sony had other "mascots". But I wouldn't say someone that started gaming in that era doesn't know Crash.

Personally I can see Mario and Sonic as mascots.....nothing else though. Sony never had one that stuck and I don't think MS has one. I suppose it's easy to create one since MS doesn't have as many exclusives....but I still don't see it the same as back when Mario and Sonic were going at it.

@mrxboxone: Sony can hype things, lie and paint pretty pictures. They can't change the bottom line when it comes to results which will always be poor in the blockbuster franchise arena.

Uncharted is a great exclusive. Not a mediocre one. I know 2 guys that weren't going to buy a PS3 until they saw Uncharted.

Quality matters so much more than sales

having said that, for every Sony exclusive, there are several 3rd party games that do what it does, but better. Their stuff tends to be middle of the road rather than exceptional.

Pretty much why I stopped being a sales warrior. Can't care enough, nice to see things you like perform but eh, its w/e. I don't know anything about GT as games (not a racer guy) but I would imagine it was just end of gen fatigue,

@Again them CER ZOMBIES really don't know what SUCCESS means this is the USA and if you make it here you make it anywhere GT is not big here theres no Advertisement for GT no one wants to make a MOVIES or a series no T shirts GT is not on soda hell I don't really see it selling over here most of them gt sales was from JAPAN eating it up in the ps2 days besides that the best selling one wasn't even a really a game it was a big demo.

I've got to admit that I didn't think this through. While I can think of a lot of first party titles that outclass many of those games (Nintendo with 3D platformers and Microsoft with Forza), I can't think of 3rd party games in those genres that can do the same except for the following

God of War is outclassed by

-Devil May Cry

-Bayonetta

-Ninja Gaiden

-Metal Gear Rising

Not sure about the Last of Us though... Is it more action or survival horror? Or kind of both.

I was also thinking more recent Sony with titles like Resistance, Killzone, and the Puppeteer. I liked Sony's exclusives a bit more in the PS2 era.

I'm not going to touch inFAMOUS. I think it's fantastic and differentiates itself well against other open world super hero games due to its morality system

- U.S. isn't the only country that matters.

- Games don't have to be on Soda cans to be successful

- Gran Turismo IS getting a movie and already kinda sorta has a tv series if you count GT Academy

- Where the hell are you getting the idea it's only popular in Japan?

Obviously Sony has great games on their consoles, due to the fact they are the most successful console seller of the 3. If Halo is so great & MS is so great at games then why does the Xbox sell less than Playstation? Halo is an American thing and the Xbox is an American thing. The rest of the world and a lot of Americans aren't enamored with Xbox and Halo.

Sorta like Uncharted scores better than Halo, but Halo sells more. You can't have it both ways. Consumers STRONGLY prefer GT over Forza. No Forza game has ever come close to selling 10 million. GT5 and GT5 Prologue sold around 14 million while every Forza game last generation combined didn't touch that number....

Eh Forza is also a forgettable game....

Gran Turismo. The last two iterations haven't scored that well but historically, it scores well. It also obviously sells well. Polyphony Digital/ Gran Turismo's reputation in the real world is also apparent as they work with companies like Nissan and Mercedes to create concept and product line cars.

Crash compared to Halo.......... Get out of her. Crash isn't even as big as Viva piñata anymore.

Which is odd since Crash sold like 20 million or so games in that era so I am not sure you know what you are saying. Crash did not cease until 2010 for games and still had a few merchandise released 7 months ago or so.

If God of War hits PS4 it'll be the only other Sony owned IP to hit 3 of it's consoles other than Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo.

I agree that Sony exclusives don't push the envelope in terms of new experiences but they do make excellent games regardless.

And it is true that GT counts as a worthy inspiration for future software. It's just that in the sea of software that Sony makes, there aren't a lot of games like this. GT was from the PSone era. Nintendo and MS have made many games since then that have captured the industry for being new and creative

It's okay TC, if my console didn't have critically acclaimed groundbreakers like the last of us, beyond, heavy rain, MGS4, Uncharted 2, Killzone, Journey, God of War, and more, I would also be in system wars beating my chest about a stupid game that has been forgotten for years and was only ever big because it was one of the first few to establish console multiplayer. I would too. Your console was built on the foundation of childish trend. Stop pretending to be relevant. 360 checked out of the race years ago even when you were in the race all your console had was milked titles so if you think you're accomplishing something here...you're not. GT has been around longer than the Xbox has been around (1997). Most people on this forum probably don't even remember what a PS1 was. This whole 'sold more' is great but is truly an inflated number due to it being on the original PS1. Great game and very forgettable, it is a racing sim which had its day but Forza a superior rated game.

LOL dude, only lems are talking about meta scores? Going by your logic there are indie 2D titles with more success then Mario, Halo, Zelda ect. Halo brings in more money then the entire exclusive franchise for Sony..... From merchandise, books, movies, games, scores and sales.

be that as it may, GT is better at what it claims to do which is be a simulator. now if you want to claim it's more popular JUST because it's an older franchise, then basically we can apply the same logic to Halo which has existed since the OG Xbox vs any ps3 title.
